Title: The FA Cup 2018 Thread
Post by: harv on January 07, 2017, 03:07:41 AM
Thought someone had better start one seeing as the Third Round is starting tomorrow ;D

Maureen will probably field a weakened side tomorrow at home against Reading. De Gea is being rested and the Roonster is back from his thigh injury. Am expecting Zlatan to be given a rest too. No Schneiderlin or Memphis either apparently due to them being expected to leave the club this transfer window.

My predicted lineup:

Romero

Fosu-Mensa Smalling Tuanzebe Darmian

Basti Fellaini

Lingard Roonster Young

Rashford

Will probably be miles off though lol ;D

Yup, I was miles off lmfao, although Fosu-Mensah and Basti did make substitute appearances.

An easy win for United as expected, the Roonster equalled Bobby Charlton's goalscoring record with the first goal then Martial scored number 2 and Rashford got the last 2.

4-0 final score. ;D

5 Premiership knocked out this round so far and arse are a goal behind to Preston. Hope the dodgy fuckers get hammered lol ;D ;D ;D

An equaliser when the second half started and a goal late on and arse look like they're going through :(

Could be a difficult derby match for United this afternoon. Plenty of changes from the last match:

Romero

Young Smalling Rojo Darmian

Herrera Carrick

Lingard Micki Martial

Rashford

Subs: Henderson, Bailly, Shaw, Basti, Pogba, Mata, Zlatan

We're going to see more squad rotation as the season goes on if we can remain in the FA Cup and Europa League until those finals but we've got arguably the strongest squad in English football so it shouldn't be a problem hopefully. Henderson aside that bench this afternoon is crazy  :o

1-1 at halftime and both sides deserve to go in even. It's been a great match so far, very entertaining.

Hopefully with our fixtures piling up we won't have to have a replay, I'd rather get knocked out than have another fixture to add to our list. :-\ :o :-\

An outstanding ball from Pogba and a sublime finish from Zlatan puts United 1-2 up. Still plenty of time to go yet though, 13 minutes plus injury time.

1-2 final score, outstanding defending from Rovers at times and they certainly created a good few chances. They probably did enough to deserve a replay but that's football. Another couple of good substitutions from Maureen too. Love him or hate him he does tend to get these decisions right.

The draw is in 15 minutes. ;D

Rashford had a poor game today, I'm convinced that he isn't suited to playing up front on his own. He either needs to play as a winger or in partnership with another forward. Today though his passing and first touch were bloody awful. :o

Post by: harv on February 19, 2017, 06:22:47 PM
My prediction is Chelsea away in the next round. 8)

Still can't believe that we haven't successfully defended the Cup yet though, although we came close to winning 3 on the trot between 94 and 96, only to get beat by Everton in the Final in 95.

Well we'll have to wait and see. United are playing some decent football since November and we have Zlatan. 8)

United could be up for a Cup Treble and a top four finish with a bit of luck :P

We're 12 points away from the leaders and 4 points away from automatic Champions League qualification. Doesn't sound too shabby to me ;)

And we're currently scoring plenty of goals and not conceding that many.

And in a domestic Cup final on Sunday.

And we have Zlatan 8)

Good performance from United so far, although De Gea has made a couple of excellent saves.

Oh well, that's our Treble down the toilet. Such a shame that first booking ruined the game but then Herrera shouldn't have made such a daft foul to get his second one.

I reckon Chelsea will go on to win the competition now and get the Double.

Kind of Jose to loan Stoke those Man Utd shirts tonight.

A ban coming for Rojo for that stamp and how the hell was Valencia on the pitch by the end. Utd should have been down to 8.

Referee was dreadful. If he'd booked Jones (I think it was) just before Herrera's second, he probably wouldn't have needed to book Herrera. Then he let so many go before he books Costa (admittedly a yellow card offence) for two fouls no worse than Valencia's first and that two footed lunge for the second, what the hell was that moron Keown on about.

Disappointed withy Costa's behaviour overall. Responding to Rojo winding him up. I reckon there's more to that than just this match. Definitely a nationality/cultural dispute going on there.

Kante must have pockets like the Tardis to fit Pogba in there.

The match at OT is going to be interesting.

Well at least Jose didn't park the bus.. he just tried to run us over with it instead lol.  I can understand some of the Chelsea fans turning on him last night.. he hasn't exactly enamoured himself with some of his comments since joining United - I completely accept he has to do a job there.. but snide little comments about Chelsea and their fans every now and then, what did he expect.  As for us being a "defensive" team.. 4-0 at stamford bridge wasn't it.. lol

United were diabolical in the 2nd half.. blame 10 men/referee, whatever.. it was all one way traffic.. United didn't score - surprise, surprise.. what did I say harv.. the only chance they had all game and Rashford completely fluffed his lines.. Zlatan would of scored that - no doubt about it.

Kante was brilliant though wasn't he, a 1/3 of the price of Pogba and 300 times better - De Gea as great as those saves were in the 1st half, he really should of saved that shot.

The one team I didn't want in the semis was Spurs as their defense is decent.. the only silver lining is that Kane will probably still be out by the time we play them.

Kante is something else. 30mill is a right steal. To think United paid triple that for Pogba. Madness.

Honestly, Harv, please answer me this - Kante or Pogba???

Kante on current form, but Pogba will have a great second season. Weird how it happens with some players sometimes. Some players have a great first season and then suffer from Second Season Syndrome (like Rashford) and some players have a shite first season and then completely blow people away from the second season onwards. I was expecting Pogba to slot straight in without a problem but those seasons he spent abroad playing easier, less physical and slower paced football has hindered his development. Fergie should never have let him go tbh.

Another concern I have is with Timbo Fosu-Mensah. Van Gaal and Maureen kept/keeps playing him as a defender. He can play in any of the four positions at the back but he's a defensive midfielder, and the best young defensive midfielder I've ever seen. I would rather have had Fosu-Mensah there than Jones last night.

Still, I can't complain too much, we've got back to winning trophies with the FA Cup last season and the League Cup this season.

Kante had a great first season and is having an even better second one.

But hey, Jose thought Pogba was the best player on the pitch ...

...  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

He's totally fucking lost it.

As for those twats at the F.A and that moron Oliver, Rojo gets away with ANOTHER one.

Not sure if that cunt would get a ban from the F.A for killing someone.

Well that's Chelsea in the Final, hopefully Citeh are going to join them tomorrow. Didn't want Spurs to win the FA Cup because that would put them 4 more FA Cup wins away from beating our total, and I don't want arse to win the FA Cup because that would put us from joint first place to second place in the total number of wins.

Chelsea have been half asleep during some parts of that first half and not just with the football. The dozy fuckwits forgot to wear their black armbands but are going to wear them for the second half.

arse were the better side during most of the first 45 minutes, Chelsea need to up their game for the second half.

I;ve never gone missing when we lose, just don't come onto these forums as much anymore, they aren't exactly lively, just you talking to yourself Harv. You should get yourself onto Rocking Soccer - reckon you could get yourself banned from the forums in minutes lol.

We were shocking. First goal was a disgrace. Clear handball and then how they can say he wasn't interfering with play is beyond me. Offside rule is a bit of a joke. Ref was channeling his best Ovrebo.

Still plenty of time after that to wake up though but I think we thought it was a warm up for a 7.45 kick off. Even the injustice of the first goal didn't fire us up.

Fabregas should have started in place of Matic. The two holding players were too deep and Arsenal won everything in midfield. Every second ball dropped to an Arsenal player, we aimlessly played it long onto the head of Mertesacker or into the vacant area where we had no midfielders. Our ball retention was so poor I don't think we could have passed wind.

We were lucky not to be 5 down at the break (just glad it wasn't City in the final or we would have been).

Then, just as it looked like we might have woken up and been getting a foothold in the game, Moses does THAT. What a fucking moron. Most players on a yellow card are very careful, they don't give the ref the opportunity to send them off with a ridiculous attempt at diving. Utterly mindless. I was torn between bombing him out of the club, but he'd make a useful sub as he's quite versatile.

I think that cost us the game ultimately and Arse ended up comfortable winners.

I'll let you off drags seeing as you rarely post on here these days but jman is a different kettle of fish altogether lol. Always ready to take the piss when United lose or even draw but tends to go missing for a while when Chelsea are humiliated, can't remember what match it was but it wasn't so long ago that jman disappeared for a week after Chelsea got beat. Maybe a month or two..? Can't remember when now but it was quite funny lol ;D
Title: Re: The FA Cup 2017 Thread

Hardly going missing because I don't post for a few days Harv.. especially over a bank holiday weekend.  Like Drags said, its a dead forum - there's no discussion here - so when nobody else is posting but you, I'm going to take the piss out of United.. especially with your stupidly excessive claims (you thought united could still win the league a few months back LOL).  And how you can get humiliated with a score line of 2-1, 48% possession, more shots on goals, just one less on target.. ??  If it finished 4-0 to arsenal (for example ;) ) then yes it would of been humiliation

I think Drags summed the game up nicely though, nothing really to add to that

We'll win the Premiership next season as long as we don't end up having a 4th season on the trot with ridiculous injuries. We averaged 7 or 8 injuries every week I think this season. Chelsea had 4 or 5 as their most injuries in one week I think. And I'm pretty sure that we broke a Premiership record during Van Gaal's first season. We had almost 90 injuries I think lol :o ;D

I'm beginning to think that someone has cursed us :o :o :o :-\

Plenty of changes for United against Derby:

Romero

Lindelof Smalling Blind Shaw

Herrera Pogba

Mata Lingard Nicki

Radford

Should be enough to beat Derby but just like with Bristol Rivers in the League Cup they're a decent side so it's not going to be a walk over.

0-0 At half-time. United have dominated the game and have had the best chances but Derby are looking dangerous on the break here and there when they get a chance.
Title: Re: The FA Cup 2018 Thread

Lingard puts United 1-0 up with a cracking goal. Heroic defending and goalkeeping from Derby at times but there was nothing they could do against that. Pretty tough on Derby if they don't get a replay though, they deserve one imo.

Ermmm.. didn't United get knocked out of the Carabollocks cup by Bristol City? ;D ;D

Anyway, it didn't really help that the referee was a colossal cunt last night.... using VAR to check that a corner (that definitely was a corner) was a corner... but don't bother using it on a penalty decision, that was a penalty - and actually book Willian instead.  As Shearer said - its a shambles.. VAR only works on things that are matter of fact (like offsides) - it doesn't work on things that are matter of opinion.. I think they should scrap the whole lot.. its a pile of wank.

What was most surprising last night anyway is that Chelsea actually scored all 5 of their penalties - I can't remember the last time they did that ;D
Title: Re: The FA Cup 2018 Thread

Theres 10 points between them in the table.. thats a smaller gap than there is between Man City and Man Utd at the moment. ;D

Anyway, this is comedy gold.. lemme just get what you said in perspective:

Beating Norwich on penalties is WORSE than losing to Bristol City in 90 minutes.

;D ;D ;D

0-1 at half-time. Mata scored but the goal was disallowed via VAR as offside. He looked level to me but it's difficult to tell because the lines that the VAR ref was using weren't straight lmfao :o ;D

They've been all over us during this first half and we're lucky to go in ahead. :(
Title: Re: The FA Cup 2018 Thread

That's a brace for Lukaku. Nice goal on the break, assist from Sanchez.

They've been over us like a Rooney rash so far, we don't deserve to be winning this. But I'm not complaining lol ;D

0-2 final score and that's United through to the Quarter Finals. And we didn't deserve that at all, Huddersfield were the better side.

The VAR thing was a shambles too, I think it was only a matter of luck that the VAR ref made the correct decision. Now they're saying that the VAR ref didn't use wobbly lines but I'm not convinced, plus I'm an advocate of VAR only being used for over the goal line issues and penalty issues. Debating dodgy offside decisions should always be part of the game imo, particularly when watching a game in the boozer :o ;D

Rashford on for Mata, who has been poor this evening. Mind you, Lingard and and Martial haven't been much better either.

A poor second half from United so far. Our final ball hasn't been anywhere near good enough all match.

A great delivery from Young with a free kick and Matic gets number 2 with his head. Matic has to be the Man Of The Match, everyone else with a red shirt on has been average at best. A decent first half and a poor second half so far.

That's the game over. 2-0 final score but a poor performance from United again >:(

Our final ball for the most part was nowhere near good enough. Only 8 shots on goal with just 2 on target. No wonder Maureen is losing his marbles lol :o ;D ;D ;D

And that's it, United in the Final 8)

First half, despite what the pundits said at half-time, was pretty even. Both sides had 6 attempts on goal, Spurs had 2 on target and United had 1 on target. Spurs were top the first 25 minutes, United were top the last 20 minutes.

But the second half United were the much better side and deserved to get the place in the Final.

Well that's a United vs Chelsea Final I think. A great goal from Giroud puts Chelsea 1-0 up inside the first minute of the second half. They'll probably score a shitload now.

Team news for United, Lukaku isn't fit enough to start and is on the bench with Rashford starting up front:

De Gea

Valencia Jones Smalling Young

Herrera Matic Pogba

Lingard Rashford Sanchez

Looks like Herrera is going to be used to try and shackle Hazard.

Going to be interesting to see how Chelsea play because I think Conte lost the dressing room late last year.

Good luck jman and drags! ;D

That's Chelsea the winners. Certainly a game of two halves, Chelsea the better side in the first half and United the better side in the second. I think we did enough to deserve extra time in that second half tbh.

Oh Well, congrats jman and drags! ;D

The best team won, United were dogshit in the first half and as much as they had most of the possession in the second, Chelsea still had the clearest chances,  Alonso should have made it 2-0.

Turned our shit season into a slightly less shit season, anyway... And United won nothing again, despite spending a bucketful... That's always nice ;D

The frustrating thing is that if we played every match the way we played the second half we would have challenged for the title. This has happened a good few times this season too. An overly cautious first half, conceding and then all of a sudden we up the pace and actually start ATTACKING.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - we need to give Cantona the bloody job. We'd go back to playing fast paced attacking football with penetration, decent crossing and loads of goals.

Van Gaal and now Maureen were/are too cautious. We need to up the pace and take a few chances when attacking. Bring those triangles back to our passing movement, play one and two touch passing.

Well I couldn't be arsed to start a thread so I've necroposted this one lol

7 changes from Ollie this afternoon:

Romero

Dalot Darmian Jones Young

Fred McTominay Pereira

Mata Lukaku Sanchez

Bench: Lindelof, Martial, Grant, Fellaini, Garner and Chong.

Hoping to see Chong come on later on, he's the best kid I've seen at the academy in YEARS.

2-0 final score, a poor game from United who were lucky that Reading didn't have much to offer up front. That's Ollie's first poor match but we ended up winning so I can't complain too much.

Plenty of changes for United but a strong side:

Lingard Lukaku Sanchez

With Grant, Jones, Mata, Rashford, Martial, Fred and Dalot on the bench.

A really well worked goal from Sanchez puts United 0-1 up. That was our first attempt on goal in the first half hour too (although both Pogba and Lukaku both came close after a fantastic cross from Lingard, their boots were inches away from connecting with the ball).

And now United make it 0-2 with a quick break, goal from Lingard. Pretty similar to the goal against Spurs.

1-2 at half-time, it still could go either way even without that goal back from arse just before the first half ended. :-\

The main difference between United and arse is our finishing so far, they've been really clinical.

Martial makes it 1-3, another great counter. Pogba makes a driving run through the middle of the park, had Rashford available on his right but went for goal himself with Martial picked up the rebound and slots it away.

1-3 final score, and that's eight on the trot now. Fantastic.

I had my doubts about him getting the caretaker job but am happy to have been proven wrong. The difference in stats between United under Ollie and Maureen is just ridiculous, not just the goals scored and conceded but the runs, playing from the back, the passing, everything is so much better.

Everyone was saying, 'wait until they play better sides'. It'll be different when they play Spurs. Nope. It'll be different when they play arse in the FA Cup. Nope.

Perhaps it will be different when they play PSG? Hope not lol ;D
Title: Re: The FA Cup 2018 Thread
Post by: harv on January 26, 2019, 11:16:07 PM
Well that's Newcastle, Everton, Burnley, West Ham and of course arse knocked out. Palace and Spurs tomorrow. Paddy Power have City as the favourites at 2/1, United as 2nd favourites at 7/2, Chelsea at 9/2 and Spurs at 15/2.

Our record in the FA Cup has been pretty embarrassing for a while tbh, we should have won more of these things than we have with the players we've had. Hopefully we'll be able to win it this year!

We'll probably end up with City, Chelsea or Spurs in the next round knowing our luck lol :o ;D

Now we're playing positive, fast-paced attacking football again though we're scoring plenty of goals so I'm A LOT more confident than I ever was of beating those other big three sides under Maureen.

There's still a lot more work for Ollie and his team to do, particularly with regards to defending and general fitness, but they seem to be on top of things after a month and 10 days work so we should see improvements in those two things during the next few weeks I think.

And even if we lose a few and get knocked out of both Cup competitions that we're still in and don't get a top four place I still think that Ollie should get the permanent job. He's brought us back to playing like Manchester United for the first time since Giggsy took over as caretaker manager after Moyes got booted out and that's worth its weight in gold imo.

There's talk from a few people that we need a defender and right winger, and I agree with the former but there's no way that we need the latter with Rashford, Lukaku, Mata, Lingard, Sanchez and Martial there as well as the likes of Chong, Gomes and Greenwood coming through the ranks. 8)

Keown has given Pogba the MOTM, should have gone to Herrera I think but am happy with either one of the two getting it. That's 14 goals from Pogba now in all competitions, only 2 of those under Mourinho. Makes you wonder how many he'll get next season if Ollie gets the permanent job  :o

Oops, that's 5 of Pogba's goals under Maureen. I was thinking about Premiership goals I think. Almost twice as many goals under Ollie though, and he's got A LOT more assists too. This is what happens when you don't play Pogba as a defensive midfielder and let him off the proverbial leash.

City deserve immense credit for that treble. I know people will say they bought it and blah blah blah. But they've only bought as much as teams have since the inception of the PL. It's a franchise sport now....has been since 1991. They do need a European Cup to be classed as legends. But I'd say well done to them whoever you support.
