Title: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on September 15, 2016, 05:04:44 PM
Hopefully this thread isn't going to last too long. Whilst I'd love to win the competition because it's the only trophy United haven't won, getting far into this competition has the potential to fuck up our title challenge this season.

Team news for United:

De Gea

Darmian Smalling Bailly Rojo

Schneiderlin

Herrera Pogba

Martial Mata

Rashford

They reckon that Mourinho is going to be playing 4-3-3 with a number 6 but those players will also be suited to his favoured 4-5-1 with two central defenders, 4-3-3 with a number 10 (not that there's a great deal of difference between the two) and 4-4-2 with a diamond.

Poor performance from United so far during these first 18 minutes. We don't seem to be pressing for some strange reason. :-\

0-0 at halftime and United have been piss poor so far. United need to press more, inject more pace into the game and support Rashford more. :( >:(

And it was offside too. Bloody game lol ;D
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on September 15, 2016, 07:42:33 PM
1-0 final score, both sides cancelled each other out for the most part and it was a pretty boring game. Their goal was a mile offside and United deserved a point from that, although seeing as both sides were shite 0 points each would have been fair lmfao :o ;D ;D ;D

Hopefully we'll get a win on Sunday because Maureen showed last season that he can't handle the pressure of a bad run of results. :-\

0-0 at halftime, great defending at times from the Ukrainians (that's right, I'm not even going to begin to try and type that out lol) and both of their wingers have been a threat at the back. Rashford nearly broke the crossbar with a shot but that's pretty much the only proper attempt at goal we've had. A pretty poor performance so far TBH. :-\ :-\ :-\

Zlatan gets a goal, Rooney a bit lucky to get the assist lol :o ;D

I just wish these managers would play him in his proper position. He's a defensive midfielder, not a defender.

Literally a slow start from United but they've picked up the pace after 10 minutes or so.
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on October 20, 2016, 08:22:19 PM
Pogba gets the first goal with a penalty. 1-0. 8)

They had pretty much taken their foot off the pedal since I said that we'd picked up the pace lol.

And now we've got another one! Two REALLY stupid penalties to give away. Martial scores United's second. 2-0.
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread

A cracking finish from Pogba makes it 3-0 at halftime.

I'm still not happy with the pace of the game so far from United but they've controlled the game right from the start. 8)

1-0 down at halftime. Plenty of possession for United but they haven't done a great deal with it. Darmian has been causing them a few problems but no decent chances yet worth talking about. Apart from that early outstanding goal they haven't really threatened United. They're very well organised at the back but I can't see them continuing to surrender this sort of possession without getting punished for it.

United lost 2-1. Still another 2 games to go but it won't be the end of the world if we get knocked out I guess. I'll still be a bit pissed off because it's the only competition that we haven't won. Only a point between us and 2nd and 3rd place though so it's not a complete disaster. :-\

I just caught the highlights and it was a pretty amazing goal from Sow - in fact all 3 goals were pretty incredible.  But United were shit again... that makes me happy  ;D ;D
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on February 16, 2017, 10:13:04 PM
A comfortable 3-0 win for United against St Etienne tonight. All 3 goals from Zlatan. The scoreline is a bit flattering but United deserved the win, and could have had more goals if it wasn't for their keeper making a few good saves. Some decisions went in our favour but we deserved the win and barring a disaster next week that should be United through to the next round.
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on February 22, 2017, 05:22:54 PM
I was about to post complaining about United playing negative possession football but in the 16th minute or so United switched to positive football and Micki puts United 0-1 up, so that's 0-4 on aggregate.
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on February 22, 2017, 05:53:54 PM
Micki came off injured a bit after he scored, could be a hamstring which is a bit of a bugger with Sunday coming up. Rashford came on to replace him. United 0-1 up at halftime.

United got FC Rostov.. probably the worst team to get in terms of travel.. and just before the FA Cup match against us too ;D

What was funny was hearing that Gent was drawn against Genk lol.  Should be interesting listening to the commentary on that one.
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on February 24, 2017, 03:37:52 PM
They're not a bad side too. They beat Bayern 3-2 in the Champions League, hammered Sparta Prague 4-0 and drew with PSV twice.

Not too worried about the FA Cup match because Maureen has got a squad that's quite capable of playing two different sides of quality good enough to win both matches if he needs to but I can see him making 7 or 8 changes at the most between the two matches.

Rostov:

Romero

Young Smalling Rojo Darmian

Pogba Herrera

Lingard Micki Martial

Zlatan

Chelski:

De Gea

Valencia Bailly Blind Shaw

Carrick Basti

Mata Fellaini Rashford

Rooney

You could switch any of those players in those two different 11s (apart from Bailly who's suspended for the first leg against Rostov) without losing any quality. We've got arguably the strongest squad in English football at the moment so I'm not too worried about our fixture congestion if we continue to progress in these competitions. 8)
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: jman on February 25, 2017, 08:49:49 AM
Best squad in English football...

Except for when the opposition goalie has the "game of his life" lolol
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on February 25, 2017, 02:35:50 PM
Yup. When you get an opposition goalkeeper making 5 or 6 world class saves you end up with a draw. There's a good few matches when that has happened with United's games. Have a look at those two sides. Could anyone else in English football field two separate 11s with that sort of quality..? And Maureen will probably only make 7 or 8 changes at the most between those two matches anyway rather than two completely different sides. ;)

That's why I'm not too worried about those matches being so close to each other, we've got the squad capable of dealing with this sort of fixture congestion, and our squad will only get stronger next season assuming that Maureen doesn't do his usual and piss off players, staff and/or board members and either get sacked or quit before the start of next season lol ;D ;D ;D
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: jman on February 25, 2017, 11:09:57 PM
Could anyone else in English football field two separate 11s with that sort of quality..?

Well Chelsea can, quite easily too... I would say that only one United player would get in Chelsea's starting 11 and I'm not being biased lol, you're 15 points off the top for good reason
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on February 26, 2017, 10:09:41 PM
Are you SERIOUSLY suggesting that De Gea, Pogba, Carrick, Martial, Lingard, Rashfors and Zlatan in particular wouldn't get into the Chelsea side..? Really? :o

First trophy of the season for United this afternoon, a great Cup Final to watch too. Very entertaining. I had my doubts that Zlatan would be up to Premiership football and English domestic Cup football but he has been amazing so far this season. Scoring 53 goals in the Froggy league last season was impressive, it's a piss poor league but that's still a ridiculous amount of goals, but I didn't think he'd be up to the pace and phisicality of the Premiership and have been VERY impressed by him so far this season.

Who knows, he might still be playing like this next season too :o
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: jman on February 27, 2017, 07:56:26 AM
I'd take Hazard, Pedro & Willian over Martial, Lingard and Rashford anyday of the week.  Costa has been shit-hot this year and will probably win the golden boot and be named player of the season - so I'd take him over Zlatan and Kante is arguably the signing of the season... beats Carrick hands down.  Those are easy picks - bizarre you think Lingard and Rashford would get into our first XI when they struggle to get into Uniteds first XI ;D ;D

De Gea vs Courtois and Pogba vs Matic/Fabregas are the only potential match-ups where you could argue the United players... but I'd take Matic if you're playing a defensive midfielder and Fabregas if you're going for attack - I'm afraid Pogba just hasn't cut the mustard this season, his defending has been diabolical at times.
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on February 27, 2017, 02:00:26 PM
You are aware that Zlatan has scored 26 goals so far this season and Costa has only scored 17, right..? But you'd rather have Costa, who's more likely to see red during a match than Zlatan..? Zlatan is a goal scoring machine. Costa is good, but nowhere near that good. 8)
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: jman on March 01, 2017, 09:33:14 AM
Don't let the fact that Zlatan has played 10 more games than Costa get in the way of your logic. ;D

I'd take Costa because
1) He is far younger.. 7 or 8 years at least.
2) He has more Premier League goals
3) He's more of a team player (and that's saying something!)

Costa has only had 1 red card at Chelsea.. I think you'll find Zlatan has far more red cards than Costa has had if you compare careers, again - don't let the facts get in the way ;D ;D
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on March 01, 2017, 03:57:18 PM
Costa has been riding his luck with red cards since he joined Chelsea, he should have had at least two reds this season so far. He's a liability.
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: jman on March 02, 2017, 08:37:33 AM
I'm not saying Costa is an angel.. but saying you'd have Zlatan over Costa because of Costa's (perceived) liability to pick up red cards makes you look like an absolute muppet because everyone knows that Zlatan is equally (if not more of) a bastard when it comes to these things.  Should of seen red for that elbow smash on Dawson earlier in the season for sure.

Costa is my opinion of a perfect number 9 for the premier league - Zlatan is too slow and doesn't play for the team - there are others I'd have over Zlatan too.  Also I think Zlatan has scored at least 4 goals from direct free-kicks and penalties.. not that they don't count.. but pretty sure all of Costa's goals this season have come from open play - just saying!

First half ended 0-1, and now the Ruskies have scored a fantastic equaliser :(

We've wasted a good few chances in the first half and Young should have got United's second earlier in this half but fluffed his lines >:(

1-1 now.
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on March 09, 2017, 07:57:34 PM
1-1 final score, should have won the match in the first half tbh but a draw with an away goal against a decent side isn't a complete disaster, and surprisingly we didn't get any injuries.

I'm a bit pissed off that we didn't set a defensive record for the competition though :(

Time for a bit of Robo Recall now I think! 8)

I missed the match yesterday, completely forgot about it  :-[

Am going to watch it at 10:30pm tonight as long as the stream is up and working fine.

We ended up winning 1-0 and have drawn Anderlecht in the next round, first match is away on 13th April, return leg is on 20th April. ;D
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on April 13, 2017, 10:04:09 PM
United went a goal ahead with a finish from a tight angle from Micki but during the second half the Belgians woke up and got an equaliser. Ended 1-1 but we really should have won that, we just didn't put our chances away AGAIN!!! :o

Got what could be an important away goal and are playing at home on the 20th so not a complete disaster as long as we don't royally fuck things up next week. :-\

What a fantastic game of football. United won 2-1 and are through to the Semi Final AET.

The first half was pretty even but the second half and both halves of Extra Time it was all United. It was only down to a defensive masterclass by their centre backs that we didn't score 4 or 5 :o
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on April 21, 2017, 07:41:33 PM
No official news yet but 'Sky Sources' reckon that Zlatan is out for the rest of the season, same with Rojo too I think.

Still can't believe that this is the THIRD season where we've been well and truly fucked over by injuries. :o

Leicester had things easy with injuries last season and the same can be said of Chelsea this season too. It seems to happen almost every year, the side with the least injuries tends to win the Premiership. :(
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: jman on April 25, 2017, 10:06:00 PM
And there's me thinking the side that wins the most games typically wins the premier league, doh

It wasn't so long ago you were saying that United had the best squad in the league, a few injuries later and apparently not
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on April 26, 2017, 12:25:30 AM
And the side that has the least amount of injuries each season tends to win the most games.

And we've had more than 'a few injuries' for these last 3 seasons. If any other club had the injuries we've had for the last 3 seasons they wouldn't have done anywhere near as well as we've done. First of Van Gaal's seasons he got a top four place, last season we won the FA Cup and this season we've won the League Cup and are through to the Semi Finals of the Europa League.

I just can't believe we've been so unlucky AGAIN with injuries this season.

Just watch, the side with the least amount of injuries next season will win the Premiership. Hopefully it's going to be us because we're due a bit of luck with them after the last 3 seasons. :o
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: jman on April 26, 2017, 11:40:53 AM
And the side that has the least amount of injuries each season tends to win the most games.

Therefore its logical to say that the side that has the most injuries tends to lose most games.. which is just as equally as bollocks.  Liverpool have the same amount of injuries as you at the moment (according to PhysioRoom) and they are above you in the table.. they also lost key players to the ACON earlier in the season.. so how does that one work then?

Uniteds net spend is something like £230m in the past 3 seasons and you're happy with 1 FA Cup and 1 League Cup LOL... it really is funny harv.  ;D ;D

Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on April 26, 2017, 06:20:44 PM
That's just the amount of injuries at this current time, the red scouse gits have had plenty of injuries but we've had more throughout the season. And they're ahead, yes, but we've got two games in hand. You've also got to remember the amount of games we've had to play too (which also factors into the injury situation).

This season Chelsea have been VERY lucky with injuries, last season it was Leicester, the season before that it was Chelsea again, then Citeh then United. The amount of injuries that a club has is instrumental in whether a club wins the Premiership. Always has been, always will be.

And yes, I'm happy with winning those trophies because I know that ANY other club with the injuries we've had during these last 3 seasons wouldn't have won a thing. Hell, they would probably end up being mid table too.

0-0 at halftime and United have been the better side by far. Their keeper has had a great game so far, hopefully it's only a matter of time before we convert one or more of these chances in the second half to give us a valuable away goal.

Looking like whoever goes through this Semi Final will play Ajax in the Final after they hammered Lyon 4-1 at home last night. Can't see them coming back from that.

0-1 at full-time and a good result for United. Would have been 2 or 3 if it wasn't for their keeper. Not over yet but a win and an away goal puts us in the driving seat for the next leg next week.

Well that's us through. Celta Vigo deserved to win that I think but I'm not going to complain lol

So that's United vs Ajax in the Final in 13 days. Bailly being suspended is going to be a big loss but as long as Smalling and Jones both stay fit it won't be too much of a problem.

I think Valencia might get a post match ban on video evidence  though, he should have gone too.

Another home draw, and a lucky escape against a mid-table la liga side lol.  Glad you're pleased what the most expensive squad in the world is capable of though harv.
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread

That mid-table La Liga side have been playing weakened sides for their league matches for a few weeks to prepare for their Europa League games. They've also beaten Real Madras and Barcelona.

If we win the Europa League then we've won 3 trophies during a 4 year transition period after losing Fergus. I'm certainly happy with that tbh when you consider the unlucky injuries we've had to deal with during that time.

I'm quite surprised that the Final is going ahead tomorrow night after the terrorist atrocity in Manchester yesterday. Hopefully security over there is going to be top-notch and nothing awful happens. I can't imagine yesterdays events NOT affecting our players though. :-\

Here's the side for United:

Romero

Valencia Smalling Blind Darmian

Herrera Fellaini Pogba

Mata Rashford Micki

Bench: De Gea, Jones, Roonster, Martial, Lingard, Carrick, Fosu-Mensah

Am surprised that Mata got in ahead of Lingard or Martial.

Great start for United and Pogba puts United a goal ahead, albeit with a cruel deflection. It was on target without that deflection so he'll claim it.

We need more goals though, this young Ajax side have scored 120 goals in all competitions this season so it's far from over. :o
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread

United are 1-0 up at halftime and controlled the majority of the first half with Ajax beginning to get a grip on the game in the last 10 minutes or so.

I REALLY can't understand why we didn't play more positive football like this in our last half a dozen Premier League games. If we had we probably wouldn't be needing to win this game for Champions League football next season.

I'm sure the families of the victims will now feel mightly relieved that United won a poxy football match  ::)  I don't get this "doing it for the city" thing - they won a football match ffs - its hardly any kind of retribution for what happened.

But onto the game, I think it was all over before it started, they fielded a 17 year old at center back and currently a Chelsea loaner is their best player.. it was hardly a test for United and I think that showed when Ajax did absolutely fuck all for 90 minutes.  Saying that, Ajax still dominated as United once again retreated back into their defensive shell as soon as they went 1 up with the help of a massive deflection.

I did laugh at the banner at the end lol - I also saw him push a teammate away to get a selfie of the trophy  ::) the guy is a massive prick

Mourinho publicly said at the start of the season that the league was his priority - its not been as successful as he wanted but on the flip side, it hasn't been a complete disaster - I still wouldn't be happy if I was a united fan though - all that money spent and to finish 24 points off the leaders is an embarrassment however you want to put it.  If Mourinho doesn't win a proper trophy next season he should definitely be sacked.  8) ;) ;D

Post by: harv on May 25, 2017, 04:38:54 PM
You are aware that this young Ajax side has scored 120 goals in all competitions this season, right? They're not a bad side by any means. Ajax just didn't have the necessary experience of a game of this much importance plus Maureen got everything right tactically.

Yes, they had more possession, but United controlled the game for around 80 minutes.

It was a great performance and a deserved win. And that win has got us £75m for next season from Adidas before a ball has been kicked which Maureen will spend during the Summer.

As for the amount of money we've spent over the last few seasons it doesn't matter how much money you spend if half of your players are injured during that time. Like I've said before in all my years of watching football I've never seen ANYTHING like these last 3 seasons. We've had an average injury list of 7 or 8 players out every week since the season started and managed to pick up 4 serious ligament injuries, 2 of those were ACL injuries in the same bloomin match :o

I guarantee you if Chelsea, arse, Spurs, the red scouse gits or the Bitters had these sort of injuries they would all have finished mid-table every season at best, whereas United have managed a top 4 place, won 1 FA Cup, 1 League Cup and 1 Europa League Cup.

We've been in a transition period since Fergie left, and things certainly weren't helped by giving Moyes the job, but the last transition period we had between 2003 and 2006 when Fergie decided to fundamentally rebuild the side we won two trophies - the FA Cup and the League Cup - and got beat in two other Finals. Two trophies in three seasons wasn't bad considering.

And during this 4 season transition period we've won three trophies in four seasons. Hardly a disaster by any means, particularly when you consider how unlucky we've been with those injuries.

We've also pipped the red scouse gits as the most successful side in English football, that was our 41st trophy last night. 8)

Back in this Mickey Mouse competition again.

Here's the squad for tonight's game against some team nobody has ever heard of from Kazakhstan lol

David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant, Matej Kovar, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Harry Maguire, Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Axel Tuanzebe, Brandon Williams, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Andreas Pereira, Fred, Daniel James, Angel Gomes, Nemanja Matic, James Garner, Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong.

My predicted lineup:

Romero

Young, Tuanzebe, Jones, William's

Fred, Garner

Chong, Gomes, Greenwood

Martial

Not really a prediction, more of a hope lol

I don't think UEFA will let Ollie get away with fielding that many non first team regulars. ;D

Ended up winning 1-0 which was pretty disappointing. Greenwood got the goal and it was a good one. Chong and Gomes were disappointing but the latter won A LOT of free kicks.

Our main problem was bloody Static, he's ALWAYS reverting to playing the ball backwards and sideways which slows our game down to a bloody crawl and loses the ball in the middle of the park WAY too much.

I'm REALLY hoping that we can fuck him off in January or the Summer.

Great to see Brandon Williams getting his first start this evening:

De Gea

Dalot Lindelof Rojo Williams

Matic Fred

James Mata Gomes

Greenwood

Bench: Romero, Maguire, Tuanzebe, Lingard, McTominay, Chongy, Rashford

Disappointing to see Static and Mata starting though but at least that means that they're less likely to start on Sunday I would have thought.

Plenty of possession for United early on. And an early warning for United as AZ scored an offside goal. We've only had one off target shot so far.

Williams looking quite confident so far.

AZ have only conceded 3 goals so far this season in the league :o

Yup, pretty awful going forward again, great defending at times though against a side that has scored plenty of goals in their league, and they've only conceded 3 goals this season too.

Not all bad though because Williams had a very solid game, would have liked him to get forward more and stick a few crosses in though.

He won't get sacked by Christmas. He'll have three years, even if we don't get a top 4 place at the end of the season. He's only had 70m quid or so to spend for starters.

The three signings he's made so far have been good, he's sorted out the defence and the midfield is next. We'll probably sign Longstaff in January I think.

There's been a ridiculous amount of damage done to the club since Fergie retired and Ollie is going to need time to sort things out.

I think he needs to change the system though, he should switch back to playing 4-3-3 with a number 6 I think.

Team news for United:

De Gea

Dalot Tuanzebe Maguire Young

Fred McTominay

Pereira Mata James

Rashford

Bench: Romero, Rojo, Williams, Matic, Gomes, Chong, Greenwood.

A shame that Mata is still starting though, I'd much rather have Gomes there tbh.

Team news for United, Williams and Garner both get a start, Martial is back which sees Greenwood on the bench:

Romero

Jones Maguire Rojo

Wan-Bissaka Garner McTominay Williams

Mata

Lingard Martial

Bench: Grant, Lindelof, Rashford, Andreas Pereira, Fred, James, Greenwood.

Hopefully no racist business from the crowd, I'd hate to see us walk off the pitch.

Martial puts us a goal up after a great run from Williams wins a penalty. Both sides have hit the woodwork once each so far. A decent game to watch so far.

So glad that Ollie has changed the system with these last two matches, we're playing MUCH better with wing backs.

And that's the end of the first half with United going in 0-1 up.
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread

James and Rashford on for Wan-Bissaka and Martial, James is now playing as the right wing back. That's a bit risky imo.

Team news for United:

Romero

Wan-Bissaka Maguire Rojo Young

McTominay Fred

Greenwood Mata Rashford

Martial

So James is rested because Ollie doesn't want him to burn out. I would have been tempted to rest McTominay too because he's played a lot of matches so far, plus I want to see Garner playing more.

With Young starting and Williams on the bench that could be a hint that William's will start against Brighton on Sunday.

Greenwood got our first goal, another great finish from him. But our second, from Martial, was brilliant. Great feet and a few deft touches in the goal area scored a top quality goal.

United 2-0 up so far.

Partizan Belgrade have been a threat but nothing that has REALLY bothered Romero.

I think it's down to United playing to win instead of playing not to lose.

It's mainly down to the previous three managers changing us from a Premiership winning side to a Cup winning side. We're taking more chances and aren't afraid of making mistakes and losing possession. They're making runs, playing with pace and passing the ball forwards instead of backwards and sideways.

We'll probably go back to playing crap on Sunday though lol

An early kick off for United against Astana and a load of our kids playing including Ethan Laird. I knew it wouldn't be long before he started to break through, he's a great right back. Here's the team news for United:

Grant, Laird, Tuanzebe, Bernard, Shaw, Levitt, Garner, Gomes, Lingard, Chong, Greenwood

Bench: Kovar, Taylor, Mengi, Galbraith, Puigmal, Mellor, Ramazani

Also great to see Garner and Levitt starting too. ;D

United 0-1 up at halftime.

2-1 final score which was disappointing but their keeper made a couple of great saves, he was probably the MOTM I think. Still, all good experience for the kids.

I had great hopes for both Gomes and Chongy at the start of the season but they haven't done good enough when they've had their chances in the first team and I think they'll both end up going elsewhere on a free at the end of the season.

Laird had a good game and both Garner and Levitt were pretty solid. Bernard was pretty unlucky with that own goal and had a decent game despite that.

9 changes from the side that beat the Berties:

Romero

Young Tuanzebe Maguire Williams

Static Garner

Pereira Mata Martial

Greenwood

Static and Mata in the side at the same time means we'll be playing at under 1mph 😂😂😂

Bench: Grant, Jones, Rashford, Fred, McTominay, Laird, Chongy

I would have preferred to see Laird at right back instead of Young though, he's one of my favourite Yoof products.

Good to see Garner getting a start too, the likes of Greenwood and Martial will be all over his excellent long range passing.

Plenty of changes (5 I think!) from the side that beat Watford:

Romero

Wan Bissaka Bailly Maguire Shaw

Fred McTominay

Mata Fernandes James

Ighalo

Bench: De Gea, Lindelof, Williams, Lingard, Matic, Chong, Greenwood

Ighalo with his first start at Old Trafford, he's come close to scoring in both of his appearances from the bench and given that he's more of a box player than Martial and he'll get a fair bit of service from Fernandes so he'll probably get plenty of chances.

Williams getting another rest, as is Matic and Lindelof, no appearance for Martial at all, walked off in training yesterday so he's injured.

A VERY easy win for United this evening, thought that LASK would have given us more bother considering some of the sides they've beat so far.

Goals from Ighalo, James, Mata, Greenwood and Pereira.

United vs Copenhagen or Istanbul Basaksehir

Olympiakos or Wolves vs Roma or Sevilla

Rangers or Bayer Leverkusen vs Inter or Getafe

Not a bad draw for United. 😁

Hopefully we'll get a top four place before the competition restarts again so that there's less pressure to win the thing, although 3rd place, an FA Cup win and a Europa League win will be a GREAT start to Ollie's United career. 😎😁😎

Mata Lingard James

Ighalo

Subs: Grant, Pogba, Martial, Rashford, Pereira, Fernandes, Greenwood, Wan-Bissaka, Garner, Matic, Mengi, Chongy.

Yes, I know we're 5-0 up, but they're taking the piss with the effort they've put in so far.

0-0 at halftime, hope they get the Norwegian hairdryer treatment during this break, they've been ABYSMAL 😲😭😲

Bollocks. 1-0 down, that was a crazy good strike. Romero had no chance.😲

Ended up 2-1, disappointed with the performance, they didn't really start playing until they went a goal down.

Oh well, through to the Quarters and three wins away from winning the thing.

Team news for United, only three changes away from our strongest 11 with Bailly and Fred replacing Lindelof and Matic and Romero starting between the sticks:

Romero

Wan-Bissaka Bailly Maguire Williams

Fred Pogba

Greenwood Fernandes Rashford

Martial

😁

Pretty quiet opening 10 minutes so, a couple of shots from United and one on target and good defending from Bailly in the box prevents a REALLY good chance at close range.

The back four aren't too alert though. Copenhagen should be a goal up now.

0-0 at halftime, Bailly the Man Of The Match so far thanks to great work in the box a couple of times.

United have JUST edged the first half in terms of performance but there's not much in it between the sides.

Another goal, this time from Rashford but he was a mile offside. 🤬😡🤬

United have stepped up their game this half due to starting to press high. Going to be knackering in this heat though.

Matic and Lindelof on for Fred and Bailly.

Extra Time. Mata on for Greenwood.

United hit the woodwork a few times, unlucky not to win the game.

Penalty and Brunooooooo puts it away.

1-0 to United.

Their keeper has been outstanding during this game. First period of Extra Time ends with United 1-0 up but it could be us 3 or 4 goals ahead if it wasn't for that keeper.

And that's us through to the Semi Final against either Wolves or Saville.

Johnsson, their keeper was the MOTM for me, just beating Martial.

Team news for United against Sevilla:

De Gea

Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Williams

Pogba Fred

Greenwood Fernandes Rashford

Martial

Romero and Matic are both dropped to the bench. I'm surprised that Ollie hasn't stuck with Romero as a starter for the rest of the competition, the last time he was dropped to the bench De Gea managed to get us knocked of the Semi Final of the FA Cup. 😲

1-1 at halftime, great game so far. United were the better side in the first half, creating more chances but we haven't got anywhere near enough on target. ☹

And that's us out.

Still, 3rd place can be seen as a success for Ollie this season, and three Semi Finals is nothing to be sniffed at either. Would have loved Ollie to have won a trophy in his first full season but he's done well.

A success my arse, you spend nigh on £200m and got the same number of points you got last season and the same number of trophies... NONE  ;D ;D ;D

3 semis, 3 defeats, 3 years without a trophy  ;D

Squad is nowhere near good enough to compete next season either, Fred, Lingard, James, Mata, Williams, Fosu-Mensah, Ighalo,  Lindelof, Shaw, Bailly, McTominay = all shite I'm afraid  ;D

Points are relative. We got third place and beat you into third place on goal difference.

As for the money spent we only spent around £110m net, not £200m.

United 0-1 up at halftime, goal from Brunooooooo and assist from Rashford. It's a REALLY good game to watch so far, great entertainment.

United would be 2 or 3 goals up if it wasn't for a few good saves from their keeper, he's been the MOTM so far.
Title: Re: The Europa League Thread
Post by: harv on February 18, 2021, 08:25:55 PM
Ended up 0-4, would have had 6 or 7 goals if it wasn't for their keeper. 😲

A brace for Brunooooooo, one from Rashford and one for James.

Means we can start one or two of the Yoof players and some of the Reserves in the second leg. 😎😁😎

Ollie ended up fielding a strong team. Match ended 0-0 and we weren't great. Shola Shoretire ended up becoming our youngest debut player, knocking Big Norm down to the second youngest.

Amad also got half an hour too and looked pretty solid again too.

So that's us through to the next round anyway.

Forgot to post about the match on Thursday! It was 0-0 at halftime and Martial came off injured to be replaced by Amad Diallo. A beautiful ball from Brunooooooo saw Amad score his first goal for the first team with a sublime header.

Milan scored an equaliser in the last minute of Injury Time though. 🤬😡🤬

Great second half from United tonight. 1-2 down at halftime due to a dodgy penalty that got them an equaliser after a fantastic first goal from Brunooooooo.

But the Comeback Kings struck yet again to score 5 in the second half. Our dodgy penalty makes up for their one they got in the first half. Neither one of them was a penalty.

Cavani and Brunooooooo were both sublime, wish Cavani was younger!!!

2 goals and 2 assists for Brunooooooo, 2 goals and 1 assist from Cavani, and a goal each for Pogba and Greenwood.

Unless things go REALLY tits up in the away leg that should be United in the Final. 😎😁😎

Piss poor performance from United in the first 45 minutes and we go in 1-0 down!!! 🤬😡🤬

They need to be the Comeback Kings again in the second half, Ollie's hairdryer will be going into overdrive during the break I hope!!! 😲

Bollocks. Villareal won on penalties after De Gea missed the 22nd penalty. I knew we'd lose it when it went to pens. We NEVER bloody win on pens!!! 🤬😡🤬😭

Thing is, United would have probably won that, if they had a manager of Jose's experience..

OK bad luck losing on penalties, but De Gea looked like he hadn't saved a penalty for 5 years.. oh wait.. ;D

When are Man United fans gonna wake up and realise that Ole hasn't got a feckin clue  ;D ;D

No trophies for 4 seasons on the trot now.. ooops

Yup, I thought that Ollie was going to put Hendo on as his last sub. All of his other subs at the end were looking like they were made with pens in mind.

His poor record on pens and his poor distribution are the only two bad points in his game. This is why I want De Gea gone in the Summer and Hendo to take the number one spot.

Well that was a bloody disaster that has COMPLETELY screwed our season!!!

We were 2-0 up, cruising to a comfortable win. Ended up 2-2 with two unlucky own goals.

But that's not the worst bit. Varane injured, Martinez injured (could be out until Christmas if his Achilles has snapped), Malacia injured and Bruno suspended for the next match away in Saville.

So we've now got Rashford, Shaw, Malacia, Varane and Martinez all injured.

Without Varane and Martinez we're going to be stuck with Maguire and Lindelof, probably for the rest of the season.

We're fucked.

And the ref was a clown too. 🤬😡🤬

We're going to get battered on Sunday too. 🤬😡🤬
