Title: Bargains
Post by: jman on March 06, 2012, 12:36:41 PM
Place to post any decent bargains you see... obviously hotukdeals will have loads of them.. but I dont check that every day.... anyway...

Final Fantasy XIII-2 for £17.99 on play.com (http://www.play.com/Games/Xbox360/4-/18502048/Final-Fantasy-XIII-2/Product.html?searchstring=&searchtype=allproducts&searchsource=2&searchfilters=ae212%7b648235%7d+c%7b362%7d++&utm_source=ExactTarget&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=ADHOC_2012_MAR_06_VOL7_GAMESINT&utm_content=&WT.tsrc=ExactTarget&WT.mc_id=ADHOC_2012_MAR_06_VOL7_GAMESINT&_$ja=tsid%3a35626&urlrefer=search)

Its one of those 1 day deals so you have to be quick(ish)... but its a seriously good deal seeing as the game only came out literally a month ago.... I reckon you could even sell this on for a higher price at GAME/Blockbusters maybe... I've ordered one.. so

#97 Final Fantasy XII-2

my 8th game in 3 weeks now.. idiot!!   :(  .. but cant resist a good bargain!

New sale on second hand games at Gamestation.
I've just ordered five games each at around £2. Most are a bit dated, but should definitely give value for money.

Details (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/cheap-pre-owned-games-gamestation-with-thanks-posters-48p-2-98p-1162435?)

Toys R Us are selling the GHWT drum set for £20 too..  only for the PS3 though.. I would of preferred this drum set as I dont have any rock band games (yet)

It's a real shame that Activision killed off the Guitar Hero franchise. >:(

Was bloody great on the Wii, one of the few games that was a better experience playing on the Wii. Rumble in the guitar when using Star Power and having bum notes coming from the guitar was excellent. And it was easily moddable too, there were over 50 custom Guitar Hero games available to download last time I looked :o

Might have to blow the dust off my guitar controller and start playing them again 8)

That's a handsome set of drums - much nicer looking than the Band Hero ones we have.

That said, I did get the complete package for £29.99, so I've no complaints :D
It looks like that deal's ended (it was at Toys-R-Us late last year), but you can see what it looks like here (http://images.blueunplugged.com/dbimgs/BNDHRO-PCK-360-prod.jpg). Does the job fine, and isn't all that noisy, thank gawd, but it's rather ugly.

Flipping tesco are useless... they have cancelled my order and then put the item out of stock...

In fact the last 3 orders I have tried to make at tesco direct.. they are all un-related orders... but they have all been cancelled... one took them 4 weeks to cancel as well... not happy with them.. gonna write them an email if I can be bothered.. its just shit customer service.. they dont even explain why it was cancelled..

Edit : Forgot to say.. I did write them an email before.. complaining they had cancelled one of my orders a week before xmas.. the day before it was due to be sent out... and they just sent me an email saying.. oh its too busy at xmas, we'll get back to you in january.. good flaming use that was.. and I never heard a bean!!

Jesus, I dont think I'll bother with selling on ebay after this clear out.. I've never had a problem before selling the odd thing or too but this is just so much hassle... the amount of demanding buyers after the first 16 sales has just been insane.. I can see a few of the items being reported as not received and some items not being paid for as some of the buyers are already being difficult.... more headaches.. I wish I hadnt sold 50 in one go now  :-\

...the games have sold for more than I thought they would though which is something I guess...
Title: Re: Bargains

Yeah, when (or if) I do get round to selling my ps1 games I'll be doing a few at a time rather than all at once.
Bought loads of bubble-wrap and padded envelopes late last year (you'll recall ps1 game cases are a lot more fragile than current gen game cases), but haven't made a start on selling them yet.
Most are only worth about £2-£4, but it all adds up - and the Final Fantasy and X:Com games are worth a decent amount.
Haven't checked the going rate since last year, but I imagine they're largely unchanged.

Would definitely rather have £100 in my arse pocket than those games sat on my shelf...
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: jman on May 23, 2012, 10:17:31 AM
Definitely.. just seen you have Space Hulk.. awesome.. I had the 1st edition board game a long time ago.. so gutted because its a bit of a collectors item nowadays.. well when I say collectors item, in terms of price we are talking £100 minimum.... I think when my mum moved house she left it behind with a load of other stuff though :(

One thing I would say.. is when selling them on ebay, be very strict on the buyer requirements.. you dont want the hassle... ebay is so one sided towards the buyer it almost seems like a risk selling on ebay when it really shouldnt be.
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: jman on May 24, 2012, 08:39:57 AM
Not bad..

..sold 43 of those 50 games on ebay... although one buyer bought 3 and then wanted to collect which not only did I not offer, but cant physically do this week so Im now in the middle of 3 cancellations... wouldnt mind so much, but I had already messaged him prior to him making bids telling him that I cant offer cash on collection... what a dickhead.

Anyway discounting those 3 and going on the 40 games I did sell.. I made a total sum of £216 - listing fees and final value fees equal about £26 so that brings it down to £190.. but then I made sure I made about 39p on each game in regards to P&P (to help offset the FVF).. so that takes it back up to £205..  minus the 5% paypal transaction fee and I should clear about £195.. which is £4.87 for each game.. pretty happy about that although some of my initial research seemed to be way off!

Cheap Microsoft points (msp) available at Microsoft store, using code to take 30% off.
4200 Points = £24.49 (reduced from £34.99)
2100 points = £12.25 (reduced from £17.50)

HUKD thread (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/xbox-live-4200-points-card-24-49-2100-points-12-25-using-code-microsoft-store-1232170).
you need to input the code "JubileeOffer" (without quotes) at checkout. Deal expires 5 June.
Points are sent (foc) by snail mail within 2 days.

Code can also be used to get a reduction on gold subscription, but it's still expensive - available cheaper elsewhere.

Aye, I'll probably get Dawnguard, too.
Don't think I need to top up my points though. Not sure how many I have lying around - somewhere between 3k and 7k I think. I don't use many these days.

Four 2nd hand games for £20 at Blockbuster. Longstanding deal, apparently, but constantly changing titles.

Xbox 360 (http://market.blockbuster.co.uk/discount/offers/9058/4-for-20-xbox-360-games.htm)
Ps3 (http://market.blockbuster.co.uk/discount/ps3/9059/4-for-20-ps3-games.htm)
Wii (http://market.blockbuster.co.uk/discount/offers/9060/4-for-20-wii-games.htm)
DS (http://market.blockbuster.co.uk/discount/offers/9061/4-for-20-ds-games.htm)

Lots of guff in there, but also a fair few good games (most of which I already have).

I'm currently looking at one game I want (Lost Odyssey) and four I'm not that bothered about. Need to bin one...
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
Wet
The Club
Medal of Honor: Limited Edition
Lost Odyssey

Any recommendations?
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: jman on June 19, 2012, 01:15:12 PM
Thats the problem with blockyb's.. they overprice games and then stick them on deals... you end up buying games you dont really want.. you might find better deals instore aswell.. some of those games should never be £9.99.... or you can get most on ebay for less than £5 if you have a bit of patience.. personally out of the list on blockbusters I'd be tempted to go for the "Cartel" games as I've never played them and quite fancy giving them a go.. nothing else really appeals to me.. although Im in the middle of Fight Night 4 and Prince of Persia myself, so not really looking for another game...

Out of your list.. well
PoP:TFS - not too bad.. if you like the other one you'll probably find some enjoyment in this one as its quite similar...well very similar actually
Wet - I havent played
The Club - played the demo and it was bloody shite... personal opinion though... such a long time ago I cant really remember it that well now though.. just that it was crap.
Medal Of Honor - probably worth a play if you like war FPS games although I havent actually played it..
Lost Odyssey - top notch game.. probably the best traditional JRPG to grace the 360.

After checking Metacritic (not perfect, that site, but serves a purpose) I binned Wet.

I had a look on that blockbuster link and the only game that interested me was Bioshock 2. I just finished the first one. I've had it for ages but when I first played it I could not get into the story at all.

I might have to have a look in Gamestation and see what they've got in there multi buy deals as I need new games as I'm currently replaying Batman: AA
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: Late on June 20, 2012, 09:30:26 AM
Bioshock 2 is definitely worth getting (story's not as good as the first, but the gameplay is better) - but as you say, it's only a good deal if there's a couple of games you're interested in.

Personally, I like to have a couple of cheapo games put aside - to try them out when there's nothing to play. Even if I don't really like it I'll generally get a few hours out of a game - and there's always the chance you'll find an absolute gem and get hundreds of hours - Perfect Dark Zero and Star Ocean being two examples for me.

Hell aye, I'll have me that. Cheapest price elsewhere looks to be £16.99 at iwoot.
Loved the first (it's one of only about 4 games I've got 1000/1000 gamerscore on - in fact most of them are lego games) so no hesitation in getting this one.

Meh.. the first one was good.. but I thought Indy and Harry Potter are the better ones in the series.. Batman would be my worst one...

I havent played Indy 2 or Batman 2.. or Pirates.. but have had all the other lego ones...
Have played:
Star Wars Original Trilogy (loaned, only played a few mins)
Star Wars Eps 1-3 (loaned, only played a few mins)
Star Wars Complete Saga (completed)
Batman (completed - probably my favourite)
Indiana Jones Trilogy (completed)
Indiana Jones 2 (completed)
Harry Potter 1-4 (completed)
Pirates (completed)
Have also done quite a bit of Lego Rock Band, but that's not really part of the series.

Haven't yet played:
Harry Potter 5-7 (ordered)
Clone Wars (Meh. Waiting for this to hit the bargain bins)
Batman 2 (looks fantastic)
Lord of the Rings (Meh & not yet available)
and Lego City Undercover (Not out yet, possibly a Nintendo exclusive, but looks great)
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: jman on June 27, 2012, 10:07:48 AM
Oh yeah forgot about Clone Wars.. havent played that but I got a bit sick of the star wars ones after a while to be honest... so dont intend to play it... LOTR will be great though.. looking forward to that one..

Lego City Undercover looks good.. but no film tie-in will make it a bit duller I reckon.. the best gags in the lego games come from knowing the film back to front and whats supposed to happen in the cutscenes... gameplay in the lego games itself is OK for a while.. but gets so repetitve and boring.. the batman game ground on me from start to finish.  One good thing from Lego City Undercover was the Matrix scenes.. that should be their next film franchise to milk, although it might be a little too gun heavy for the kids.

My harry potter order got dispatched this morning though, so looking good for the weekend  :D
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: harv on June 27, 2012, 03:49:24 PM
Lego City Undercover is going to be excellent, Lego GTA should be pretty cool and it's currently the only U game we've seen so far that looks next gen. The draw distance is very impressive.

I'm quite confident that the writing and humour will be on a par with the film tie-ins though, the GTA franchise, surprisingly, is quite big in cultural terms.

Got it already... top notch service.. ordered late Tuesday, received Thursday with free P&P!!

I think Im going to finish off my new legacy career on Fight Night 4 before I put it in the machine though... Im 26-0-0 at the moment.. with 26 KO's lol.. im getting the hang of it now.. some git took me the full 10 rounds once, but I knocked him out twice in the last and he wasnt getting back up, need 50 matches and to win a few belts and then defend them to get a ton of achievements.. after that I think Im finished with it..

Flash sale at The Hut, with £2.50 off loads of games.
Due to a glitch the discount is actually being applied twice - so it's knocking a fiver off when your game is in your basket.

Lots of very good deals on Steam lately.
I don't really do PC gaming, so don't have a Steam account (at least I don't think I do - but I might've made one at some point), but I can certainly see why millions do...

GTA complete collection = £9.99 (7 games) (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/complete-gta-collection-7-them-steam-deal-9-99-1266582)
Fallout 3 GOTY = £3.74 (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/fallout-3-game-year-for-3-74-steam-flash-sale-1266580)
Hitman Collection = £3.74 (3 games) (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/hitman-collection-3-74-steam-1-49-each-only-want-a-particular-title-1266173)
Borderlands GOTY = £4.99 (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/borderlands-goty-edition-75-off-4-99-steam-summer-sale-1265613)
Portal 1&2 = £4.49 (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/portal-portal-2-download-for-only-4-49-steam-1264127)

I personally think £28.99 for 14 months (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/12-2-14-month-xbox-360-live-gold-subscription-28-99-delivered-ebay-rapid-fire-bargains-1267119) is a bit steep, but it seems to be the cheapest around.
There's some discussion in that thread about that deal, and others (so far it's mainly about dashboard offers) - worth a look if you've not sorted something yet.

When you get used to paying the auto-renewal fee, thats not a bad price... but I think unless I see a cracking deal, I'll wait.. I probably wont really need it until Halo 4 comes out anyway.. I dont have time to play that much online, and I have got loads of single player only type games to still get through (Witcher/Lego HP2)
Title: Re: Bargains

£28.99 for 14 months seems like a nice price...But you're not willing to pay for it? Whatever happened to whole "With Xbox Live you get what you pay for, which is a better service" mantra?

Not trying to start any wars, but I just had to bring it up...After all, it is somewhat funny how you've always claimed Xbox Live to be better and justifiable for the fact it costs money, yet you won't splash out on a deal that see's you paying £2 a month....lol  ;D
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: Late on July 17, 2012, 04:39:31 PM
I know you were talking to Kieron, but I'll jump in ahead of him.

Two things to consider there.
1 - I paid £30 for 30 months last year, and there's semi-regular offers of £1 for a month or £2 for 2 months, so it's definitely possible to do a lot better than £2 a month;
2 - As far as I'm aware, the arguments about live beating psn were a long while back (before sony's premium service), and tbh xbox live has gone downhill recently, in my opinion. Horrible "Metro" layout, bloody adverts everywhere, and a lack of decent games to actually play online (though that last point is definitely a personal opinion and one that would apply to playstation, too)
Title: Re: Bargains

If you read what I said Ross, I don't really have time to play online that much anymore, why would I want to pay for something when it would just go unused?? My opinion of live hasn't changed and if there are no crackers of a deal crop up before halo 4 comes out, I'll gladly pay full price for it then.

Lol, nice try, but live is still the service of choice when it comes to online gaming I'm afraid  ;)

Like I said, I'll buy it when I need it, only takes a few minutes to pay and enter a code, you are right though, £2 a month is peanuts, glad you have finally agreed on that, wasn't too long ago you were saying it was too expensive to warrant paying for lol

Why would I pay for something when there is a cheaper alternative? Not only cheaper, but completely free of charge...

Ermm... didnt you pay for a PSN+ subscription at some point.. pretty sure I remember that from the last forums... maybe you should answer your own question then... why did you pay for it when theres a cheaper alternative... LMAO !!

And anyway... if I take your advice and go for the cheaper alternative... (which for me is a silver live membership which costs nothing).. I have that now and you still lambast me for it anyway - you cant have it both ways ross... according to you, if I dont pay then Im a cheapskate, and if I do pay Im getting ripped off.. I've already stated I dont play online much these days.. so silver membership is perfect for me (for now)... your not winding me up, your just coming off as really stupid here...

Joe Danger + Sonic Episode 2 ... anyone know if its worth having a look at them two games ??
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: Late on September 05, 2012, 10:14:33 AM
Joe Danger's a good buy. A 2d (pseudo 3d) motorbike game, like the Trials games, with loads of levels - which you can play once if you're in a rush to finish the game, but you'll need to replay each level several times if you want full completion. Fun, as always, to compete with friends on the leaderboards.
Similar to the "Toy Stunt Bike" games you can get from the Indie market, if you've seen them, but this is much much more polished.

Haven't tried Ep 2, but I got Sonic 4 Episode 1 when it first came out. Couldn't get into it, personally. It's gone back to it's roots - 2d, and only the basic powerups - but with improved graphics. Sounds good on paper. There were lots of little things that irritated me though - each of which isn't enough to ruin the game, but when combined they do a good job of doing so. For instance, one level's in the dark, but you can carry a torch which lights up the area immediately around you as you navigate traps and mazes. Sonic's not supposed to be about creeping around carefully, though - he's supposed to be belting along at top speed.  And there's a sort of homing attack thing Sonic can do whereby a target appears on baddies as you're jumping near them - hit jump again and you'll smash into them. But if your timing is slightly off Sonic will just change shape from his protective spinning ball into a sprawing idiot with all limbs akimbo, and lose all his rings upon contact with the beastie you're targeting.

I've been advised to try Stacking and Rocket Riot. Will probably give them both a look since they each have generous 75% price reductions.

Pfft. Had a quick go on each (trial versions) and I don't think I'll be buying either. More accurately, I tried Stacking - and I was going to try Rocket Riot but it told me I've already downloaded it. Had a look at the screenies and it rings a bell as a game I tried a few years ago but didn't like.
Stacking is a 3rd person puzzler. Quite pretty but very long boring cut scenes put me off. Rocket Riot is a multiplayer brawler (think real time Worms, with jet packs permanently turned on).

Im pretty much the same as you when it comes to the new Sonics... I bought Episode 1 too and was slightly disappointed... although to be fair.. I dont think anything they produce now will ever come close the gaming experiences I had with Sonic 1 and Sonic 2.  I'll probably buy Episode 2 at the weekend.. not because I want to play a great game but I do appreciate Segas efforts even if they dont get it entirely right and Sonic holds some good memories for me in terms of gaming.

Title: Re: Bargains

I think we know the reason.
You've got exceptionally poor taste in games.
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: harv on September 07, 2012, 12:31:19 PM
Meh, hardly poor taste. I have pretty similar tastes to most of you lot - Half-Life, Fallout, Left 4 Dead, Elder Scrolls, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, God of War, Resistance, Gears of War, Dead Space, Alan Wake - just that my taste isn't as limited as yours. I'm open to new experiences as well as the more traditional ones I've just listed. And some of those new experiences are amongst the most critically acclaimed games released this gen. If you lot haven't played Super Mario Galaxies 1 and 2, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, House of The Dead Overkill, Pro Evo Wii and Tiger Woods Wii then you've missed out on some real quality. :)

I'd personally put Overkill at the top of the list, best OST ever!!! Keep on meaning to rip the soundtrack but haven't got around to it yet. :o ;D

I'm really hoping for a sequel, the Wii SKU did pretty well.
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: Late on September 07, 2012, 02:43:52 PM
Of the first batch you listed, there's not a single game there I properly loved, other than Skyrim (which you've not actually listed and you haven't actually played, but I'll include it in the Elder Scrolls). I've not played the ps3 exclusives so can't comment on them, but the others range from okay to shite.
The second batch are pretty much all crap - primarily because they're on the wii. Liking wii games doesn't make you more open minded to quality games than other people, as you've implied there. It makes you a mug, drawn to babyish games on a novelty games system with dodgy controls and graphics from the turn of the century.

I'll concede my views aren't always 100% in line with the majority of people. Yours, on the other hand, are nothing like most people.

Where's Call of Duty? FIFA? Halo? Grand Theft Auto? Final Fantasy? Gran Turismo? Metal Gear Solid? Minecraft?

I'm sure you've heard of them, and probably played most. That little list is, after all, pretty much a who's who of the most popular games in the world this last decade or so...

Half-Life - okay but overhyped
Fallout - boring
Left4Dead - crap single player, decent multiplayer
ES: Oblivion - boring
ES: Skyrim - great
Uncharted - not tried
HR - not tried
Resistance - not tried
Gears of War - okay, but I don't like cover system
Dead Space - crap
Alan Wake - Crap with a capital C.

SMG1 - okay, but shite graphics cos it's on the wii, and ultimately boring (never bothered to finish it)
SMG2 - okay, but shite graphics cos it's on the wii (despite buying it on launch day I don't think I played more than about 1% of it)
Twilight Princess - never tried, but shite graphics cos it's on the wii
Skyward Sword - never tried, but shite graphics cos it's on the wii
Metroid Prime - okay, but shite graphics cos it's on the wii (and tbh I preferred the old 2d Metroid games)
Xenoblade - never tried, but shite graphics cos it's on the wii
Last Story - never heard of it, but I'm guessing it's on the wii - so has shite graphics
HOTD Overkill - crap game, and shite graphics cos it's on the wii (and on rails shooters had their day in the 80s and early 90s - they're a ridiculous idea now)
Pro Evo Wii  - never tried, but shite graphics cos it's on the wii
Tiger Woods Wii - never tried, but it's golf (boring) and will have shite graphics cos it's on the wii

LOL.. harv and "pretty similar tastes"...

..Raving Rabbid Rabbits.. GI Jockey.. jeesus.. you have played some crap in your time.. I'd be embarrassed to of played some of the games you have...

And limited taste... according to our xbox 360 profiles.. you've only played 18 games to my 276 (actually only 12 of yours are real games - and 9 of them are FPS games!!) LOL (http://www.jonrb.com/emoticons/epicfail.gif)

God knows how you can include Elder Scrolls in your "tastes" when the last one released 10 months ago and you still havent played it !!  ::)
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: harv on September 07, 2012, 04:24:52 PM
If you consider whether graphics = quality then you have no taste. Gameplay and level design is always bigger and better than graphics. That's why your gaming is limited. At some point you'll end up getting bored with the same old same old.

Call of Duty won't survive next gen.
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: Late on September 07, 2012, 05:53:53 PM
If you think a game must be good because it's got crap graphics then you're deluded.

I want graphics and gameplay from a game.
Most xbox and ps3 games will fail on at least one of those two counts. EVERY wii game will fail on count one and 99.9% of them will fail on the second...

Have gone for that. I recently played the first, and enjoyed it.
The Darksiders games fall in that category of games where people will complete it then trade it in (not much to do once you're completed it) so it's dropping in price quickly.

But if you are thinking of getting Hitman Absolution on the 360/PS3 - check out Amazon at 12PM sharp - which is when it gets put on some kind of deal.  You'll have to be fairly quick about it, if the discounts are good then it will sell out quickly.

Lego LOTR (http://direct.asda.com/LEGO-Lord-Of-The-Rings---Xbox-360/003767232,default,pd.html) £20 @ Asda (online and in store).
Nice price for a pretty new game, and the Lego games are always great fun in my opinion.
Not a fan of LOTR, personally, so I'm going to hold out until I've less of a backlog and it's about a tenner.

Gonna have to get me some microsoft points soon. I'm loving Blops2 to the degree I'm pretty sure I'll want all of the map packs - so it's going to be slightly cheaper in the long run if I pay for a season pass. Damn you Activision. Nobody gets blood from a stone better...

Old one, but you can use the code 5MARKET on blockbusters marketplace for £5 off a basket worth anything over £15 - think you can only use it once.

I just bought Lego Pirates for £11 - usually goes for at least £15 on ebay.  Thought it was about time to get the next Lego game I haven't played  ;D

You can get Far Cry 3 for £13 using the code though - saw that on HUKD - great deal.

lol, you dont have the best of luck with blockbusters.. I've ordered 3 or 4 things online through them and they've all been good condition with quick delivery.

It was either Lego Pirates or do a 2 for £20 deal with Saints Row 3 + another one.. Lego games have a habit of keeping a good trade-in price though.. so can always get Saints Row 3 later down the line.

Must stop buying games now though  :-[
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: Late on February 05, 2013, 10:17:59 AM
On the bright side, the disks both look to be in okay condition (slightly scuffed, but I'd imagine they'll work fine), and the box isn't in bad nick. There's nothing in the box but the two disks (i.e. no instructions or online pass) but that's to be expected with second hand games. If you get them it's a bonus.

You made the right choice. Saints Row 3 is a decent game but nowhere near as good as SR2 (imo), whereas you know exactly what you're getting with the Lego games.

Was toying with getting Far Cry 3 on this deal, as well as AC3. Should be possible to use the code more than once so long as you make a new account each time. I think I'll leave it for now, though, as it'd just be sat on a shelf for a few months - by which time I could probably get it brand new for around the same price.

Dishonored has just dropped to £18 (the price I had it at in my pricewatch list), at Game and Amazon.
Decisions, decisions.
I think I'll leave it for now, and put it back on the pricewatch at £15, as my backlog of games is too big, but that's a great price for a fairly new and very highly rated game.

Loads of bargains at play.com today. They've started to wind down stock. (I'm sure most of you know already, they're ceasing to trade as a retailer in a few weeks' time - Play will be a marketplace only from 1st April.)

Half tempted to get (xbox360) Lego Lord of the Rings, which they've just cut from £36.99 to £18.49 (cheapest elsewhere is £23), but my backlog of games is already too big.

Naturally, the offers aren't just on games - there's some great deals on blurays and other goods. I bought the Apes Evolution boxset today (all 7 films on bluray for under £16 - yes please!)

If anyone wants a zavvi 10% code...

Thanks Kieron.
Was supposed to have expired, but I've just used your code now (to bring Sleeping Dogs down from £14.99 to £13.49).

Tomb Raider (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/tomb-raider-ps3-x360-only-28-67-zavvi-3-quidco-1488135) for £28.67 at Zavvi using code.
(Code isn't supposed to be for preorders so there's a chance of orders being cancelled.)

The game is looking fantastic, and early reviews are giving very high scores - but I get the impression this is one of those games that'll drop in price pretty quickly, so I'm going to wait.

Have had Max Payne 3 on my watch list for a while now - target price £10. Lowest I've seen it go is £12.85.
Available today (digital download) from xbox live for only 520msp - which is about £3.70 assuming you buy 2100msp for £15.
Must remember to buy that tonight...
If you don't have any points you can pay £4.49 for it, which is still a great price.

Left4Dead 2 is the same price. Quite enjoyed the first, but didn't play it very much. Great price, but I'll give that one a miss.

It was a tenner from blockbusters back in November - I did post about it  ;) - £3.70 is a great deal though.. get on it - Im trying not to buy any more used games though - I want to finish my backlog before next-gen.

Definitely interested in buying a spare 360 console now if you do see one at a great price.. £20 from GAME was just insane.. but I'd be interested in anything sub £50 (as long as it comes with a year warranty).

TBH I was hoping to get it brand new for £10 (was tempted by it second hand at that price when you posted, mind). Getting a digital copy for under £4 will do me nicely though.

I should be able to log into xbox.com and buy it now, then have it automatically download when I turn the xbox on tonight, but I've tried that with games before and it wanted to download them to our upstairs console instead (despite my profile being on the downstairs one) - which is no use to me. Probably just need to update my console registrations on xbox.com or something, if I can be arsed.

Will keep en eye out for a s/h console.
Arcade (http://www.game.co.uk/en/xbox-360-arcade-console-28546) and Premium (http://www.game.co.uk/en/xbox-360-premium-console-60gb-32383) are both still showing as £20 and £60 respectively on Game's website but both are out of stock. Might be worth checking once or twice a week though on the off chance. (Not sure if the £4 discount code is still going - look for it if you happen to see the premium is in stock and you can go £56.)

I'd been thinking I should finish my backlog before next gen arrives, but lately I'm leaning more toward leaving it a while before getting the new machine. Maybe enjoy one last year of cheap games on the 360 while the ps4 and nextbox establish their place in the world. There'll be better prices, more games, and more importantly it should be more clear which console would better suit me - including better info about their capabilities, and their problems.
But I want one in launch month, though! You made me wait last gen - don't do it again!
Shut up. Internal voices shouldn't be typing on forums...

[Max Payne 3 is] 160MSP if you are in Switzerland. You can change your region through Xbox.com. I used an old silver, changed to Swiss added points, There are a few price discrepancies. Max Payne 3 is 160MSP, MGS2+3HD is 400MSP for the bundle. Peacewalker is 400. L4D2 and Orange box both 400. Civilization is 920 though.

If you change to Swiss you need to wait 3 months to change back which is why I used a silver to download but ill play on my main account.
Blimey. Max Payne 3 for about £1.15 now, if you don't mind fannying about with your account settings...

Apparently Asda have knocked 50 squid off their Wii Us. Basic for £199 and the Premium for £249. You're probably better off getting the Premium SKU because of the extra storage, charging dock for the GamePad and the 5 quid vouchers you get when earning enough points from eShop purchases.

A day or two after Zavvi stop selling the Wii U Premium for £225 (and nobody being interested) you post Asda's price of £250 as a bargain?...

I'd argue you'd be better off with the core model, actually. The extra storage isn't really a factor, as you're going to need an external HDD whether you go for the 8gb model or the 32gb one (especially if you're using the eshop enough that the discount scheme comes into play). The charging cradle isn't much of a factor for most folk, as you can charge fine without it.
So it comes down to whether you want to pay £50 for "Nintendo Land", and a few other fairly insignificant bits and bobs.

Actually, scratch all that. I'd argue you're better off doing pretty much anything with your £200/£250, as the console's crap - and if you wanted the Premium you could've had it at pretty much any point in the last fortnight for £224.99 from Zavvi.

Well I've downloaded 4 demos (FIFA 13, Rayman Legends, NBA 2K13 and Monster Hunter 3G Ultimate), Sonic Racing Transformed as a DD title, The Cave, Trine 2, Zen Pinball 2, Chasing Aurora, Mighty Switch Force, Nano Assault Neo, Puddle, Tank!Tank!Tank! and two VC games (Balloon Fight and F-Zero) and I've still got 8GB left. And that's after the strange firmware update that whips away 5GB of storage. I'd love to know what was going on under the hood during that update, it's bloody huge. My money would be on the system using some of that as swapspace in an attempt to negate the RAM difference, but who knows..? Won't be a lot of use for developers needing fast access RAM but will be a godsend for open world games like Fallout or Skyrim.

And the black console looks miles better too. The white disc light keeps on throwing me though, looks like there's a bright outside light source reflected in the top left hand corner lol.

Didn't realise Zavvi had it cheaper, just thought I'd share the deal. ;)

If you're going to get one you might be better off getting one in November, I can see them knocking 50 dollars off the price, although of course that doesn't mean we'll get it 50 quid cheaper over here because we always get shafted over here. It should be profitable by then so they can afford to drop the price and continue to make a small loss on each unit sold.

I've set up a stock alert for the £20 ones now - so hopefully next time its on, I'll be able to get one...
I think if I dont have one by next month - I would settle for the next best price.. but if I was going to pay £60 for a premium - I might as well get a preowned slim for £85 instead... so thats the plan.

Edit : Actually scratch that - I just remembered the slims hard-drives aren't compatible with the older versions - and that would be important as I would be moving hard-drives between console regulary.

Cheap consoles reported at some branches of HMV.

HUKD thread (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/preowned-120gb-ps3-slim-half-price-hmv-65-1500307)

120GB PS3 Slim = £65
4GB Xbox = £65
Xbox Arcade = £30
Xbox Kinect = £35 with game

As with most HMV deals recently, stock is sometimes hard to find.
Had a look in Middlesbrough branch about a week ago, and there was very little left in the electronics section.

Far Cry 3 is reduced to £15 or 1760msp on the dashboard. 1760msp is about £12.50 if you buy 2100 for £15, which is typical. Unfortunately I think I only have around 1400msp - but I'm definitely going to have to look into getting this.

Asda are now doing the Wii U Basic SKU for £150 and the Premium for £200 :o

If you plan to buy a fair bit of stuff from the eShop I'd say the Premium is better value due to the £5 vouchers you get, plus you get a sensor bar, charging cradle for the GamePad, stand for the GamePad for making video chats and extra storage space. 32GB holds a fair bit of stuff, I've got 2 retail games, 5 demos and I think 7 downloadable indie games from the eShop and still got around 2GB left which is pretty good going.

Title: Re: Bargains

Nope, not budging.. if the premium was sub £100 - as that is all it is worth imo.. then I might be tempted for a casual adoption... but since that is unlikely to even happen in its lifetime, theres very little chance of me owning one.

Who wants to buy a Wii U now we know the big boys are on their way later this year anyway ?  :o
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: Late on May 02, 2013, 10:33:36 AM
Not far off that stance, myself.
Might be tempted if I saw a core one for around £110 (or premium one for around £140) this year - but I'm still not certain I'd get one at that price, and I doubt we'll see them at that price in 2013.
And if I'm buying a Playstation or Xbox next year it'd be silly to waste even £80 on a Nintendo in 2014, as it'd hardly get played.

Consoles are being heavily discounted at Blockbuster - but the discounts seem to vary from store to store, stock is very limited, and the discounts aren't all clear - so you need to check at the till.
There have been lots of people picked up deals such as:
3ds for £70
3dsxl for £90
Xbox 4gb with kinect for £80
Xbox 250gb with kinect for £105.

There's mixed and conflicting reports that the offer was a mistake and may have been pulled, but loads have gone through and continued to long after it was supposedly ended. Definitely worth a look if you want a console and find yourself near a Blockbuster...

Would've posted earlier but the office server went tits up and I've had no internet for most of the day other than my phone :(

Sleeping Dogs and Saints Row 3 would've kept you busy for a fair while, tbh.
Loved Sleeping Dogs to bits. And whilst SR3 isn't as good as SR2 imo it's still a good game.

I started on Darksiders 2 a couple of days ago. Bought it in release week, left it on the shelf for nearly a year. Good game - but you know how it is when you have a backlog... Will finish it off before putting Tomb Raider into the machine. Hopefully.

Yeah I "plan" to get through Eternal Sonata before starting anything else.. but its not a great game so I know I wont... Im finding it quite annoying to be honest, the voice dialogue is so shit and the characters annoying...there are too many cutscenes and they are all way too long as well...plus the achievements are totally messed up which irks me even more.. I think the 1st playthrough you can get a maximum of 90-100 GS.. its only on the 2nd playthrough you can get the rest.. mainly because one of those 2nd play achievements is worth a stupid 321 GS (and it involves collecting everything).  I wont be playing it twice though.

I'll knock Sleeping Dogs out quite quickly I reckon (especially if it arrives tomorrow).. I reckon I'll be done with it before Tomb Raider arrives.

SR3 and Dirt:Showdown - not too bothered about playing quickly.. and wouldnt of bought them if they werent cheap.. but they will provide some variety in getting through the shit in my backlog.

Dark Souls is reduced to £8.99 on xbox.com (or via dash) for gold subscribers.
Have been waiting for the physical copy to drop to £15 (it's been on my pricewatch for so long I forgot about it, but never dropped below £15).
At £9 (or 1080msp) I'm happy to go with the digital version instead.

The game's nearly a year and a half old now, but has great reviews.

So many games, so little time...

Looks like a glitch rather than a promotion, so will probably be fixed soon.

Bullys an awesome game and that's a mental price... but I've already played it.. and played the shit out of it too.. hopefully they are going to make a sequel to this.  It always reminded me of "Skool Daze".. don't know if that rings a bell with anyone.. its an old speccy game based in a school.

Aye, I loved Skool Daze and Back 2 Skool - and Bully definitely reminded me of them.
Enjoyed the game, but it's gotta be a bit dated now. Can't remember what platform I played it on. Might've been the Wii.
Great bargain at less than a quid. (Not sure how easy it is to get to the Czech marketplace. Haven't read the thread or others like it. I assume you just sign up a new account on your console and specify CZ as your country.)

Well I managed to set up a Japanese account on my 360 fairly painlessly.. basically there was some free DLC for Lost Odyssey which wasn't available over in the UK and I wanted it.. obviously all the terms and conditions are in another language as is the account setup page, but you can pretty much make out what information needs to go where.

My 360 game sale is going to start next week on ebay.. I've earmarked about 10-15 games to get rid of first.  Ideally after that batch I'll be getting rid of Kinect and all those games.. however I do want to try and 100% Fruit Ninja, try and get back into Rise of Nightmares.. and I better have a go on Michael Jackson : The Experience.. my friend bought me the last two and I've played MJ for about 3 minutes in total.. he forced me to have a go on it.. so I guess I could scour it for easy achievements before getting rid - I need another 3000 in the next 4 months to hit 100k.

I loved this game.
Solid tower defence gameplay, without being overcomplicated. Very nice graphics. And a computer voice (delivered by Jim Ward (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Ward_(voice_actor))) that's up there with GLaDOS at the top of the pile.

(Actually, GLaDOS features in a DLC pack for the game. Didn't rate that pack, personally, but that's by the by...)

A few nice new reductions on XBL Marketplace, starting today, including:
Assassin's Creed III = £8.99
Borderlands 2 = £.8.99
Far Cry 3 = £8.99
Crysis = £4.49

As is often the case, you can get them cheaper if you pay by points, depending on how much you paid for your points; and some can be had much cheaper if you create a Hungarian account on your machine (e.g. Borderlands 2 is approx. £3.00, and Crysis is approx. £1.50)
(Why Hungary I don't know.)

Post by: Late on July 05, 2013, 09:42:49 AM
I set up a Hungarian account for my 360 yesterday. There's been so many great games at great prices this week.
I called the account "HungryLate" ;)

Didn't put any points onto the account. There were a few games I was half interested in yesterday - they're doing new deals every day this week - but none that I HAD to have.
Was tempted by Witcher 2 for 400msp (£2.85) until I realised I have the game sat in my unplayed stack (yeah, there's so many games in the pile now that I've lost track).
Half tempted by Forza Horizon for 600msp (£4.30), and Left4Dead 2 for 400msp (£2.85) but neither is a "must-have" for me - though I'm still tempted by both as those prices are ridiculously low.

XCOM for 880msp (£6.30), Orange Box for 160msp (£1.15), Hitman Absolution for 400msp (£2.85), Lego Batman 2 for 400msp (£2.85) and Lego LotR for 600msp (£4.30) are all fantastic deals, but I already have them all on disk.
In fact I bought XCOM, LOTR, and Hitman in the last 2 months on disk, and paid £43 for the three of them. All three were great deals - the cheapest they've been available. Until now. Would've cost £13.45 to buy digital copies of them all yesterday!

Todays Hungarian deals (today being the last day of the offer - but they'll likely still be available over the weekend):
Hitman Absolution - 400pts
Tomb Raider - 1480pts
Bioshock Infinite - 2680pts
Gears of War : Judgement - 2400pts
Metal Gear Rising : Vengence - 1800pts
XCom: Enemy Unknown - 880pts

Have got 4 of those 6 on disk, already, and the prices (whilst still good) aren't as crazy as the last few days' deals, so I guess my HungryLate account is going to lie dormant for the forseeable future.

All £ prices are approximate, based on buying 2100msp for £15.00, which seems to be the going rate in the last year or two.

Oooh Lego LOTR for £4.30 sounds good to me.. undecided on Lego Batman 2 - I didn't really like the first one that much.. is the second one worth getting?

I probably should of picked XCOM this gen.. but probably wont have time to play it now...

Ahh shit.. I just realised, Im not going to have hardly any time to get on the xbox tonight.. can you do any of this account setting up online do you know late ?  Scratch that.. I've just read the destructions.. although can I download my hungry account to my xbox from the pc.. I don't think I can, can I ??
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: Late on July 05, 2013, 02:20:05 PM
Nope.
You can set up a HU email account, and use that to set up a HU xbox account, all on the pc, but you then need to import the account onto your console before you can add any points or make any purchases, and that means being on the console.

It's largely moot anyway, as they're all daily deals, and the Lego Batman (which is completely different to the first one - it's about 50% open world sandbox stuff - similar to the Lego Harry Potter games, except those were more like 10% sandbox) and Lego LotR (also about 50% sandbox) deals were a day or two ago so probably* aren't available now.

*I won't say they definitely aren't available, as a few offers that are supposed to have ended have either stayed up for a few days or have been up and down several times. For instance Orange Box is still up at 160msp (which is a truly outstanding buy - but I think everyone has it already) but that was supposed to have ended 3 days ago.

Bit of a strange one, this.
GTA:5 for £4.97 when you trade in two games at gamestop.com
We see that sort of offer from time to time, and it's always a couple of pretty new games you need to trade in. On this occasion, however, they're accepting some old games. There's a list of 200 games they'll accept (and they've said they won't change that list), and quite a few of those games can be had for less than a tenner - a few could be had for less than five quid if you're lucky.
So you're potentially getting GTA:V for a net cost of less than £15.
That's assuming you don't want to just use old games you have lying around. I have about 8-10 of the games on the list just gathering dust, including Lego Indiana Jones 2 (last played 27/06/2011), GTA4 (last played 29/05/2008), and SR3 (last played 06/03/2012).

How it works is you place an order now, and you authorise a payment (but payment isn't taken).
In September they'll send you the game and an envelope, and will take the full price from you - £39.97.
You put a couple of old games in the envelope and send them to the company and they'll refund you £35.00

I believe in the old credo "if it's too good to be true then it probably is". But this all looks legit, and I've had some fantastic deals by taking a small gamble, so after umming and ahhing about it for a while, I've now gone for it...

game.com currently have a promotion offering £5 off a £50 spend. Nothing unusual there, except it applies to gift cards - and that's extremely unusual.

So if you put £50 worth of GAME vouchers in your basket then use the code VCUKJUL132 it'll cost you £45. You can do it repeatedly as a guest without logging in, and you're fine to use just one email account.

Net effect is around ten percent off nearly everything. e.g. you could pay £315 for a ps4 (buying £350 vouchers), or pay £390 for an xb1 (by buying £400 vouchers for £360, and paying the rest cash)

Oh well, it was good while it lasted. Looks like Flubit have taken a big backhander from Amazon and starting tomorrow they're only taking demands from Amazon.co.uk. Terrible decision, Amazon rarely have the cheaper deals on stuff like video games and Blu-Rays so I can't see myself using that site again. :'(

I bought them, even though I don't do pc gaming and my computer might struggle with them. And I don't have Origin. Or Steam. Must look into those at some point.

I assume that if I set Origin/Steam up at some point in the next couple of years I'll have a few games ready to play.
Is it just a program you download, that lets you access a library - which has hundreds of games, and a few of them I'll now have free access to by putting codes in?

If I never play them it's a little bit of a waste, but at £3.33 I've not exactly broken the bank. I've paid a lot more for single games that have sat unplayed on a shelf for years.

Over $3m in sales in the first 14 hours. 2 weeks to go.
Apparently more games will be added to the bundle next week, btw.

They are both just dashboards to a store and your own library of games you own through them.  Inputting a code will tie the games to your account, so you can log into your account from any pc and re-download the games if you need to at any time.  I log into my steam account at home and work.. so I can play my full set of games at both locations.

£10.20 Microsoft Credit for £7.85 at shopto.net
It's a 1200msp code - but msp was killed off a month or so ago. When you put the code in your balance will instead go up by £10.20.
Effectively 23% off.

Bit of a strange one, this.
GTA:5 for £4.97 when you trade in two games at gamestop.com

... place an order now ...  they'll send you the game and an envelope, and will take the full price from you - £39.97.
You put a couple of old games in the envelope ... and they'll refund you £35.00
More details:
gamestop (http://www.gamestop.co.uk/GTAVTrade)
hukd (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/grand-theft-auto-v-ps3-360-for-4-97-when-trade-2-games-gamestop-1602205?page=1)

I'm loving Gamestop's way of barging into the UK games industry.
I went for the above offer, to get GTA:V for £5.97 plus two old games. Should get my game next week, at which point I'll ship a couple of crappy old games back to them.

Since this deal started (in early July) they've repeated it for a few other big releases. In each one it's a case of paying £40 for the game but getting approx £34 back a couple of weeks later when you send them two old games.

FIFA 14 (PS3/360) only £5.97 when you trade 2 listed games:
hukd (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/fifa-14-ps3-360-only-5-97-when-trade-2-listed-games-gamestop-1643363)

Battlefield 4 (Xbox 360/PS3) for £5.97 when trading in 2 games:

gamestop (http://www.gamestop.co.uk/BF4Trade)

Assassins Creed Black Flag - Wii U, PS3 Xbox 360 £9.97 with trade in deal (Not sure why this one's a tenner when they others are £5/£6):
hukd (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/assassins-creed-black-flag-wii-u-ps3-xbox-360-9-97-with-trade-deal-gamestop-1654836)
gamestop (http://www.gamestop.co.uk/AC4Trade)

Batman Arkham Origins on PS3/360/Wii U - £5.97 when trading in 2 selected games:
hukd (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/batman-arkham-origins-ps3-360-wii-u-5-97-when-trading-2-selected-games-gamestop-1654928)
gamestop (http://www.gamestop.co.uk/BatmanTrade)

Assuming all goes well with the GTA deal (and I fully expect it to go perfectly smoothly) I'm going to have to seriously consider gamestop for several other games. Tempted by BF4 and Arkham Origins - and possibly AC4.

The GTA deal has now expired, but the others all currently look to be active.

Possible glitch to get Wii U Sports Bowling and Wii U Sports Tennis for 1p.

You can place the order and will get a confirmation email - but don't be surprised if your order gets cancelled...

You effectively put the console in your basket, add the game for a penny, then remove the console - but read the hukd thread for full details.

The game is excellent but without the GamePad for the Murfy parts there's a lot less skill involved in those segments using buttonppresses instead of the touchscreen. A great game though, going to be interesting to see if they're going to ungimp the swarming parts that the Wii U version had to suffer from due to the lack of power that the PS3 and 360 have.

Bloody hell, this is a great Wii U deal (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/wii-u-basic-nintendo-land-just-dance-bundle-wii-party-u-pack-plus-two-extra-remotes-1829293) as long as you don't mind your Wii U being white. A Wii U Basic console with Nintendo Land, Just Dance and Wii Party U and 2 Wii remotes (because you get one with Just Dance and one with Wii Party U).

So you're basically getting a Wii U for £130 quid.

Worth getting one just to play first and second party titles on even if third party support doesn't pick up.

"The Ultimate Xbox Live Game Sale" is up and running on the 360 - and has a few tasty morsels.
I shan't partake, personally. I need to reduce the 360 backlog, not add to it.

Oh. That reminds me. It's just past the middle of the month. I should probably download whatever the current "games with gold" offering is.... (a quick google later)... Ah - Toy Soldiers. I think I have it. Never mind, then.

Some good deals on Tomb Raider today, on pc and on xbox 360.
I personally wasn't a big fan of this reboot, but I'm definitely in the minority on this one - and it's gotta be worth a look at these prices if you've not played it already...

You can download it for £8.99 from xbox marketplace (today only?).

Tesco have some good prices on current gen consoles if you use their current discount code
The code might be for new accounts only - I'm not sure. Tis easy enough to make a new account if necessary.
 Code: TDX-KH4C

Brings prices down to:
Xbox One + Titanfall £359.10
PS4 + Infamous: Second Son £346.50

Edit: the code is fine for existing users - but is only valid for the first 5000 uses, so if you're tempted I would act fast, as the deal will expire petty fast.

Fucking hell, this weekend on Steam they've got an offer on The Star Wars Collection. All Star Wars games for just £23.99, 66% off. :o

Have just jumped right on that!!! 8)

It's funny because I was thinking about blowing the dust off my Wii and 360 to play the Jedi Knight games and the KOTOR games. 8)

I bought KOTOR yesterday (£2.50ish). Have never played it, so it's about time I gave it a look, see what all the fuss is about.
It's now in my steam library, and will probably sit there unplayed for years, like all steam games.

Fucking hell, John Lewis are doing the Basic Wii U for £112!!! (http://www.johnlewis.com/nintendo-wii-u-8gb-basic-pack-with-new-super-mario-bros-u-mario-mascot-and-8gb-sd-card-white/p231817620) :o :o :o

It's worth getting for ZombiU, Rayman Legends, The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D World, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Lego City Undercover and Mario Kart 8 alone at that price. :o

No game with it but you can pick up ZombiU for less than a tenner these days and if you get Mario Kart 8 then you get a free downloadable game with it, although you'll need a USB hard drive to give you more storage space.

Going to read the Gaf thread I saw this revealed on now, whenever these sort of bargain prices appear you get people knocking $50/£50 off the bargain prices saying 'Meh, still to expensive, I'm not getting one until it's x-50' lol. Can't be any in this thread, surely..? :o ;D ;D ;D

Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: Late on May 16, 2014, 06:36:48 PM
I might've been tempted by that, tbh.

But it went out of stock about nine hours before you posted it here, and those that managed to get an order in are all getting cancellation emails,
Unfortunately for some, they ordered this then ordered several games from various sites - so are now getting games for a console they don't own and don't really want to own (unless they can get it for about £100).

If memory serves, John Lewis made the exact same cock up a few months ago.
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: harv on May 16, 2014, 08:42:35 PM
Yup, was my bad. Pretty sure I checked it because I noticed that some of the others were out of stock...need new glasses lol :-[ ;D :-[

Texted my Mum about it too because I thought it would be a good opportunity for her to get a cheap and awesome Christmas pressie for my Brother's kids, and if she got one as well then they could video chat regularly. Oh well, was a nice idea. :(

Still, there's always the Premium Mario Kart bundle from Tesco for 200 quid, basically means that you're getting the console for £130ish quid depending on what games you get.

Deals on xbox live (for gold subscribers) for the 360 at the moment:

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier : £2.96
Call of Duty: Ghosts : £33.49
Far Cry: Classic : £2.63
Far Cry: Blood Dragon : £3.29
Invincible Tiger : £1.15
Rayman Legends : £9.99
Saints Row 4 : £9.99
Skydrift : £4.99
The Smurfs 2 : £9.89
Storm : £3.37

Semi-tempted by GR:FS. Would definitely be worth a punt at the price - but I haven't really turned the 360 on in about 8 months other than to download the free games, so I'll give it a miss.
Blood Dragon was great fun. Anyone who doesn't have it should give it a look.

A shame that they've ditched backwards compatibility, otherwise you could flog your 360 and keep the games to play on your Xbox One.
Title: Re: Bargains
Post by: Late on June 03, 2014, 03:36:08 PM
Aye, I miss backwards compatibility.
How much would I love to buy a fully backwards compatible ps4, that could play all my old ps1 and ps2 games (and of course I'd go out and buy loads of ps3 games)!

It's unfortunate that the only companies doing backwards game compatibility for their new hardware are Nintendo, Apple, Android, and V-Tech. Also unfortunate that Nintendo have fallen into that category, when they used to be a proper games company.

We've gone off topic now, haven't we.

Some of you may remember that online multiplayer game I made a good few years ago with FPS Creator. Well The Game Creators company is doing a Winter Bundle deal (http://www.thegamecreators.com/?m=view_bundle&id=65) that gives you FPS Creator and loads of other stuff to play with for just £25.74.

Have bought it and will do another one I reckon.

I did do this as a deal on Hot UK Deals but not sure wtf is going on over there. A couple of weeks ago I couldn't log in for some reason, didn't get an email with my password when I gave my email on the Forgot My Password screen and decided to just create a new username. Entered the deal today, got an email saying I'd got a contributor badge for entering a deal and got logged out. Deal isn't there. And now I can't log in.

Maybe I've been banned or something..? Fuck knows. :-\ :(

Some fantastic bundles available for Steam games, at the moment.
(Unfortunately most folk will already have a lot of the games, which potentially reduces the bundle value.)

If you don't already have a Steam account and think you might want one in the future - or if you have Steam but don't have many of these games in your library - snap both of these bundles up now!

Eidos Anthology - 34 Games plus DLC £19.99 with code @ SQUARE ENIX
(Includes most or all of the games from: Tomb Raider, Thief, Hitman, Deus Ex, and Just Cause, amongst others.)
hukd (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/eidos-anthology-steam-34-games-dlc-usually-140-20-with-code-square-enix-2095949)
Square Enix (https://store.eu.square-enix.com/emea_uk/games/pc-windows-download/Eidos-Anthology.php)
(Price is £159.99, but code GAMESRDR knocks £140 off that.)

Valve Complete Pack only £10.00 @ GMG
(Includes the Half Life, Portal, Counter Strike, and Left 4 Dead games, amongst others.)
hukd (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/valve-complete-pack-only-10-00-gmg-2095402)
greenmangaming (http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/gb/en/pc/games/action/valve-complete-pack/)
(Price is £12.49, but code  WINTER-SALE20-GROGRE knocks 20% off.)

That is a cracking collection of games, for thirty quid.

Not bad at all. Tis probably my favourite Lego game, that one.

I've just about finished with Lego Batman 3, now. Haven't got close to 100%ing it, though. It was good, and I've replayed most (or probably all) of the levels once each, but I can't be arsed to go through them all again to mop up the remaining stuff. The open world of Lego Marvel was much more fun than that in Batman 3 Beyond Gotham - which isn't so much an open world as a few fairly small open areas.

Have a bit of a back-log to work through, tbh:

Wolfenstein TNO (currently playing, thoroughly enjoying - got for £12 second hand from CEX),
D4 (freebie installed but not yet looked at),
CoD Advanced Warfare (pressie, physical, installed but not yet looked at),
Zoo Tycoon (bought and installed about a month ago but not yet looked at),
Lego Movie: The Game (£10.56 - downloaded but not yet looked at).
Assassin's Creed Unity (cheapo download from a third party - I think was about £15. Have installed but not yet played).
I still need to play Halo MCC at some point, too. Got about halfway through the first game then got distracted and moved on, so there's still loads left to do in that.

Recently played through season 1 of "The Wolf Amongst Us" (Fables) - thoroughly enjoyed that; and Outlast (decent horror) - both bought cheap from the Marketplace.

As a result of the above binge, I've filled up my HDD, and started deleting older stuff and games I wasn't keen on.
Gonna have to pick up an external drive some time this year. (Have a few in the house, but all are usb2.)

Oh - and I'm about 8 or 10 hours into FF7 on Steam, too.

I need some time off work to get through these.

Oh.

We often see xbox and playstation credit at a reduced price, but I don't think Nintendo credit is reduced very often. Some of you may want to top up your credit at giftcloud.com, who currently let you buy £15 of credit for £12 (using a 20% discount code).

It seems you can make multiple purchases, but you'll need to set up a new account each time.
Some folk are reporting problems at checkout, though (see the hukd link below).

Use code: SALES20

Means you can get £50 xbox credit (http://www.rakuten.co.uk/shop/simplygames/product/40124/) for £40.
Note that you'll receive five separate £10 codes, which will arrive via post rather than email.

My Passport Ultra 2TB Black (Recertified) £49.99 at Western Digital.
Might be of use to any of you running short on HDD space on your consoles.
Would get one myself at that price, but my car got its last rites a fortnight ago so I'm flat broke for a while.

Lots of folk have certain drive manufacturers they'll swear by, and others they'll completely avoid - mainly based on their experiences. Personally I've almost always bought WD and despite daily use for years and years I've never had any problems with any of them.
Recertified might put some off but recertified by the original manufacturer is fine by me.

Elite Dangerous is now available on Steam for a ridiculous £9.89 :o

BUY IT NAO!!!!!!

It's now number one in my Best Games Of All Time list, knocking the original Elite down to number two.

Decided to give my 6700K a bit more welly, it's now running stable at 4.8MHz which isn't too bad. Overclocking CPUs is a bit of a lottery, some are real diamonds for overclocking and some aren't so good. Bought.
Doubt I'll get it played any time in the next few months, but what the hell - good game to have in the collection for if I find myself with some free time.

Have added it to my (rather lengthy) Steam download queue. It's taking an age to reinstall all the games I lost when my external HDD went down last month, but I'm getting there. I currently have 440 out of my 522 games installed. I could've had them all done a couple of weeks ago if I was permanently downloading them, but I'm trying not to use too much bandwidth as I need it for COD and for streaming to my media player - so I'm just doing a dozen or so, one or two nights a week.

It'd be downright rude not to at that price!  ;D

Unity is great for co op and actually lets you pick and change your outfit and colours. Apart from that it's not the best AC game, but still enjoyed it. Definitely worth a buy at that price!

Tbh, Ubisoft pretty much milked that franchise to death. Way too many games in too short a time resulting in poor quality titles. A shame because it was pretty cool at the start. :-\

Yeah they did.. but for less than £3 I'm willing to forego that..

I did hear its a weak release compared to Black Flag.. but then its £3  ;D ;D

I bought Zoo Tycoon for £7.38 at same time too.. not the best price in the world but I have wanted to play it from the X1 launch and £10 for two games that should last me a while sounded like a good deal.

Not sure how much of a deal this is.. because the price could drop dramatically after release.. but I'm looking forward to the release of Doom - so I pre-ordered it last night.

£32.85 at SimplyGames (http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/doom-ps4-xbox-one-simplygames-32-85-2438975) - pretty sure you get charged on order (if that makes any difference).

Really need a good deal on Xbox gold. Current subscription runs out on the 27th.
Some folk are saying they've dashboard offers of £25ish but mine's showing as £40.

Look like the cdkeys 12 month one is the cheapest at the moment with the 5% discount works out just over £35.

Seen the April Games With Gold and they look great:
Ryse, Darksiders, Walking Dead Season 2 & Assassins Creed Revelations.

Glad The Walking Dead Season 2 has made its way to GwG, no-way I was paying £20 for that even though I did find the first season quite enjoyable.  Never played Darksiders, so will be giving that a go too.  Ryse is definitely worth the download too.. repetitive gameplay but quite enjoyable in parts.

There are LOADS of Oculus Rift DK1s new and factory sealed available on eBay at the moment. These things complete and in mint condition are going to be worth a fortune in 50 years or so. There were less than 57,000 made and shipped to developers and will be valuable as important parts of VR history later on down the line for collectors.

I'm not going to be alive to see the benefits if I win on my bid but my niece and nephew or their kids will do.

That guy on eBay (and others doing the same thing) will be kicking themselves years later.

Woo hoo! I managed to get 2 of them. First one for £37 and the second one just now for £36.

I'm tempted to keep both of them myself but I won't see the benefit of that before I peg it so I'll probably leave them to my niece and nephew after I'm brown bread. Just going to have to make sure they don't get possession of them until they're over 25. If they keep hold of them that should give them both a nest egg for them both when they retire. ;D

Microsoft doing a backwards compatibility sale - Link: http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/promotions/sales/backward-compatibility-super-sale

I've picked out 4-5 games I'm gonna download tonight lol - been looking at Shadow Complex - Definitive Edition for a while, but at £2.50 for the original - I'll probably just go for that.

Bloody hell, Oculus have put the price of the Rift and Touch bundle down to £400 as part of their Summer Of Rift promotion. OUTSTANDING value for money. Get on it right now and enjoy The Future, it's only available at this price for 6 weeks I think. 8)

6 months of Xbox Game Pass is £23.99 for a limited time - Link (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-Game-Month-Membership-Download/dp/B079XXN6WP/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=eurgam-jdpost-21&linkId=93e8466c2f4dfdc10fc46cf781f05cf2)

Usual price is £8 so that's the equivalent of 3 months paid and 3 for free... codes do stack aswell so you can buy as many as you want..  if you turn on auto subscription (when you redeem) you get another month for free aswell (you can turn off the subscription at any time).

I was on rolling subscription, but still got the message about keeping the rolling subscription on for a free month.. so I'm now covered until 8th Feb 2019 ;D

I have to say I was a bit wary of XGP at first, but its fucking good value for money - and actually finding myself buying less games - apart from Far Cry 5 - I think the last physical game I actually bought for myself was Diablo III at the start of the year - and judging by E3 its only going to get better.

Elite Dangerous is now on Sale!

Not sure about the Xbox and PS4 shops but you can get the PC SKU from Steam here:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/359320/Elite_Dangerous/

I would have thought that the console versions are also on offer too. If you're thinking of buying it then go for the Commander Deluxe Edition, it contains some paint jobs for a few of the ships and the Horizons DLC which allows you to land on planets without an atmosphere and drive around them in a dune buggy which is good fun.

The learning curve is pretty steep (unless you're a veteran of the first game in the 80s, it's using the same excellent flight model) but once you get into the game it's VERY easy to lose several hours playing the game without realising it.

No Man's Sky was a complete disaster when it launched, it didn't resemble ANYTHING shown pre-release. That launch was probably the most disappointing I've seen during my gaming life so far.

But fair play to Hello Games, they've worked REALLY hard on the game these last three years and are releasing another huge update in the Summer called Beyond.

It's now available on the Humble Bundle for £19.99 so I thought I'd let you guys know, here's the linkage:

https://www.humblebundle.com/store/no-mans-sky

Probably the biggest comeback in gaming history tbh :o
