Title: The League Cup Thread
Post by: harv on August 26, 2014, 10:54:32 AM
United playing MK Dons away tonight. Last time we had a 2nd Round match we got knocked out by the mighty York City :-[ ;D

Here's my predicted lineup:

Linda

Keane Jones Blackett

Young Fletcher Powell James

Kagawa

Wilson Van Persil

Might stick £10 on the mighty dons to do you over, lets face it, it wouldn't be a suprise  ;D

10 changes :o

De Gea

Keane Evans Vermijl

Janko Anderson Powell James

Kagawa

Hernandez Welbeck

Janko has been very impressive for the U21s during pre-season and the first two U21 matches. Not a bad side as it goes. Wilson on the bench, was hoping to see him start this evening. He's going to be a HUUUUUGE player for United in the future.

Oh wow, Harv i dunno what your thinking but that bunch of players aint even good enough to play div 1 football. Never united class them youths.

Only one who looked decent was Wilson. He should have started.
Title: Re: The League Cup Thread
Post by: harv on August 26, 2014, 11:12:29 PM
The problem with the sides (including the U18s and U21s) at the moment is that Van Gaal has changed their passing movement. That's why so many of our passes are going astray. It's going to take time and everyone needs to be patient. You'll see a big difference in as little time as a few weeks for all 3 sides.
Title: Re: The League Cup Thread
Post by: jman on January 28, 2015, 11:37:59 AM
Well I watched the game last night.. I guess there were a few talking points.

The Costa stamps.. I'm not convinced he meant either of them.. the 1st one (on Can) certainly looked worse on replays.. the 2nd one was nothing really.

But considering Lucas and Henderson deserved to get 2 yellow cards.. there's cause to complain against the referee on both sides.  Chelsea also should of had a penalty.

I wouldn't of blamed the referee regardless of the result because we had quite a few chances to put the game to bed in normal time.  Liverpool were good in the first half, Courtois keeping us at 0-0 but we pretty much dominated the entire second half and extra time.. Liverpools plan was to lump the ball up to Sterling who was sitting on the shoulder of our defensive line.. it didn't really work.. Zouma had a good game and looks very promising.  Bringing Bollocktelle on in the 2nd half was great...he offered nothing and he gave us our goal with his shit marking in injury time.. the guy is an absolute waste of a player.. so I hope Liverpool keep with him  ;D

Spurs or Sheffield Utd in the final - don't really care who we get.
Title: Re: The League Cup Thread
Post by: ancelotti on January 30, 2015, 12:47:47 PM
We blew in the first leg. Should have 2-1 or even 3-1 but going to Stamford Bridge with a 1-1 was always going to be near-impossible. We played well in the first half and Costa really should have gone, but we got fortunate with a few decisions ourselves. Skrtel's challenge in the box was stupid and should have resulted in a penalty, Henderson should have gone for a clear and deliberate handball, and Lucas was also lucky to still be on the pitch after committing a number of fouls whilst on a yellow card.

We did ourselves proud, but the lack of cutting edge in our game really cost us. The only reliable goalscorer we have is Sturridge.
Title: Re: The League Cup Thread
Post by: jman on March 02, 2015, 09:01:40 AM
Well that was an efficient win  ;D

You could see spurs were struggling with the midweek game as-well - they had a fair bit of possession in the first half but didn't do anything with it.. we scored our first goal at the right time but it all came about from spurs dithering in defence.

Bit of a boring game, but it was a well deserved win and our first trophy of the season  :D

My heart sunk a little bit seeing JT lift the cup and no Frank  :'(  Didi was a fine replacement though  ;D

Looks like we've got a bit of a problem at the back. Shaw, Rojo, McNair and Jones all injured, although Jones may end up on the bench tomorrow against Ipswich. Could be looking at the following defensive line-up:

Valencia Smalling Blind Darmian

Or:

Darmian Smalling Blind Young

Or maybe:

Darmian Smalling Carrick Blind

Van Gaal has plenty of different options, I'd be tempted to field the first option above.

Team news:

Valencia Smalling Blind Young

Another goal from Martial, and another great finish. 3-0.

That's a more respectable scoreline 8)

3-0 final score, fair play to Ipswich...they gave us a few problems here and there.

What's that saying about people in glass houses ??  ;D

Still I'm glad the £100m united have spent on new players this season has really improved their side.

I mean, losing on penalties to a championship side is much more of an improvement over losing 4-0 to a championship side hey!

Us losing last night wasn't a disaster. You lot losing on Tuesday night was a disaster, and another nail in Mourinho's coffin. Unless the Chelski board sack him soon you'll be looking at 7th/8th place at the end of the season AT BEST. :o

He'll be gone before December but it won't be soon enough to get you Champions League football next season.

Who knows, your Ruskie owner might get the hump and do a runner leaving the club needing to pay his £1bn+ loan back lol :o ;D
Title: Re: The League Cup Thread
Post by: jman on October 29, 2015, 03:57:15 PM
Chelsea haven't gone 2 consecutive seasons without winning a trophy until 2004, so I've no doubt we'll be back to winning ways soon...  no-one else in the premier league can boast that little statistic can they?  ;D ;D ;D  You've won jack shit since Fergie left and look set to win jack shit this season too!  No idea how that makes it a disaster for us and not for you - Van Gaal needs to win a trophy this season or he's definitely out on his ear come the end of the season...lets be honest, the league cup was probably the most obtainable so it is classified as a disaster.. especially since you went out to a championship side for the second season running.
Title: Re: The League Cup Thread
Post by: harv on October 29, 2015, 04:51:05 PM
We're still in 3 competitions though, and whilst any trophy is a trophy the League Cup is the lowest priority. I'm a bit pissed off that we didn't go through but we're far more likely to win one of the three remaining competitions than Chelski who are in serious trouble at the moment.

It's been clear for a good few weeks that Maureen has lost the dressing room and the board not getting Klopp in was a huge mistake.

Another couple of defeats in the Premiership before December and you could be looking at the danger of seriously getting into a relegation dogfight. You've got the following fixtures before December:

31/10 The red scouse gits at home

04/11 Dynamo Kebab at home

07/11 Stoke away

21/11 Norwich at home

24/11 Tel Aviv in a war zone(?)

30/11 Spurs away

You're only 5 points away from the relegation zone, another couple of defeats and you could be right in it. Which is pretty hilarious given the grief you've been giving United these last couple of seasons lololol ;D ;D ;D

I think that Maureen will go if you don't beat the red scouse gits on Saturday which will be a shame cos Maureen not being there may just save them from the drop lmfao :P

This is where such as Arsenal are getting it wrong lads....Now fair enough Man utd and Chelsea have won the Champs league...So fair enough, you see the League cup as less of a priority...With arsenal the other night at our place, they tried to mix and match youngsters with seasoned pros....15 minutes in...2 of the seasoned pros had hobbled off after doing nowt bar jog on grass..
I mean for a club thats been tw*tted by Olympiakos at home...and will probably get tw*tted away in Munich...They should have concentrated on what is one of the 3 comps they "Might" win...The League cup being one of 'em...
Lets face it....History tells us arsenal aren't going to win the Champs league...They should field a weakened side in that competition..common sense eh?....
but they swan up here..expecting a walk in the park cos its Sheffield Wednesday...its arrogant and naive...We might not have done much recently...but honest..a full Hillsborough on an Autumn evening..bouncing about..Is not a place for a few kids mixed with folk who aren't bothered...Its funny but at half time I said to my lad...
"We've won this..they have frozen"..Its rare I'm comfortable at half time with Wednesday 2 up...I'm not comfortable if theyre 4 up...I was the other night though against Arsenal

1-1 at halftime against the Hammers. United have had the better chances, Adrian will probably get a post-match red after a disgraceful challenge on Zlatan before he scored. Fletch got the equaliser after a rare mistake from De Gea.

Decent match so far.

4-1 final score. 2 from Martial and 2 from Zlatan.

The score was a fair reflection of United's dominance I think.

And the BIGGEST surprise is that Basti came on for the last 10 minutes :o He got a great reaction from the crowd when he came on and every time he touched the ball. He was actively involved in the last goal too.

Is he the only player to have played after a fallout with Maureen..? I can't remember anyone else managing it. :o

The draw for the Semis:

United v Hull
Southampton v red scouse gits

Micki was fantastic again today, won the MOTM but there were plenty of players up for that, mainly the front 4 but Jones was also in the running imo.
Title: Re: The League Cup Thread

7 changes for United from the FA Cup match:

De Gea

Valencia Jones Smalling Darmian

Herrera

Mata Rooney Pogba Micki

Rashford

That's how they MIGHT lineup but any of those 5 front players could switch positions or we could end up playing 4-5-1 with 2 defensive midfielders instead of with 1. Or maybe 4-3-3 with Herrera as the number 6..?

So many options.

Hull only have 6 substitutes :o

A great first half from Hull, 0-0 at halftime. It's been all United so far apart from Hull hitting the post but the vast majority of our chances have been long distance efforts. They've been reasonably solid at the back so far despite having 2 midfielders at the back.

The longer we go without scoring the more Hull will start to believe that they can snatch a win :-\

2-0 final score, and that's 9 wins on the trot for United but a tough match on Sunday against the red scouse gits.

I've also just realised that if Hull sell (Pongo) Snodgrass before the weekend and don't buy anyone they could end up with just 3 subs on the bench :o :-\ :o

Hull get a VERY soft penalty and go a goal up. 1-2 on aggregate. >:(

Pogba gets the equaliser after decent work from Rashford. 3-1 on aggregate now.

It's been a pretty poor performance from United so far though.

They all count regardless. It may not be a major trophy but it's still a trophy. I won't be too pissed off if we lose the Final, but I'll still be a little pissed off.

A great performance from them, I thought it was going to go to Extra Time...I think our fitness would have won the tie if it went to Extra Time but they scored the winner in the last minute :'(

Oh well, I hope they go on to win it now! ;D

Pogba knows full well that Maureen will be gone before the end of the season, either with him jumping or being pushed. Same goes for Martial and any other player that's fallen out with him too.

Pogba is just 'doing a Rooney' anyway. He wants a pay rise.

Meh, Pogba is shit anyway, £89m and not even half the player as Hazard..  Not that I like Hazard's attitude, but at least he's not constantly bitching like a baby.

Omfg, wish I'd watched the Final now lmfao ;D

Sarri tried subbing the keeper who had cramp, keeper refused to come off, Sarri has a hissy fit but kept the keeper on. He'll be sacked tomorrow I reckon. You can't have a manager backing down like that, he should have insisted the keeper came off when the ref went over and asked him.

Never mind, I'm sure Maureen won't mind coming back lololol :o ;D

Gave my opinion at the start of the season somewhere.

We have a manager that has not won anything in his entire career and an assistant manager who has done awful throughout his PL managing career - I said we wouldn't win anything this season and stick by it.  I was amazed that we went on an 18 game unbeaten run at the start of the season - well and truly found out with some of those results... but unbelievably, even with a decent run, united could still finish 6th and arse and spurs are the biggest bottle jobs going so - so there's still hope for top 4 I guess.. but the football has been more boring under Sarri than it was under Mourinho.. I'd take Mourinho back for a 3rd time even if it is for temporary success, only side he didn't win the title with, was United lol.

I'm surprised anyone but harv is still here tbh, as soon as united start winning a few games you never hear the end of it from him, same old, same old... I bet he still thinks united are actually going to win something this season lol.

We'll we've got a good chance of winning the FA Cup and are still in the Champions League. Even if we win bugger all and don't get a top four place I (and the vast majority of United fans) am just happy that we're playing attacking football again.

The frustrating thing is that we've had a squad capable of winning the Premiership every season since Fergie retired but poor managers playing boring defensive football has prevented us from reaching that goal.

Ollie's record since taking over in all competitions is Premiership winning form:

Strong team from Ollie:

Romero

Wan-Bissaka Tuanzebe Jones Rojo

Pogba Fred

Pereira Lingard Chongy

Greenwood

0-0 at halftime. Their keeper has made a couple of decent saves and Pogba missed a sitter. :(

Well that was a relief, we scored all of them and Rochdale missed one so we're through to the next round.

Their keeper deserved the MOTM, he was outstanding.

Poor finishing from United again though. We should have scored 3 or 4 goals but most of our attempts were off target.

Three at the back for United again with four changes to the side that beat the Canaries:

Romero

Lindelof Maguire Rojo

Wan-Bissaka Fred McTominay Williams

Lingard

James Rashford

Probably 3-4-3 with Lingard as the number 10 I think.

Bloody streams playing up again. United a goal up through a Rashford penalty ;D
Title: Re: The League Cup Thread
Post by: harv on October 30, 2019, 08:56:47 PM
And that's halftime with United going in a goal up. Chelsea have had plenty of possession but haven't been able to do much with it thanks mainly to McTominay. They've hardly been in the final third and when they did manage to break through our three central defenders have cut their goal chances down to just 2 and they've both been off target.

United haven't done THAT much better though, 4 attempts on goal and 2 on target...and one of those was a penalty.

It's a very tight game so far and pretty boring to watch. :(

A much better half from Chelsea after such a poor first half but United have defended well and McTominay pretty much ran the game from midfield.

Team news for United:

Romero, Young, Tuanzebe, Maguire, Shaw, Matic, Pereira, Greenwood, Mata, Rashford, Martial.

Subs: Grant, Jones, Williams, Garner, Lingard, McTominay, Chong.

Title: Re: The League Cup Thread
Post by: harv on December 18, 2019, 09:13:57 PM
That's more like it. A REALLY quick break on the counter and Rashford puts us 1-0 up. Colchester have defended pretty well, particularly the two central defenders, but Rashford just tore them to pieces with that counter.
Title: Re: The League Cup Thread

Shocking united again. But this City side are class and can beat anyone on there day.

0-1 to United now, good finish from Static.

City's pressing cooled down a bit because it's pretty much impossible to keep up that level of pressing for long. It's both mentally and physically tiring.

I still think we'll get knocked out but at least we've got a goal.

City are starting to get a bit rattled now.

If we can get to halftime without conceding then it really is game on.

0-1 up at halftime. It's about time that Static did something useful in a United shirt. 😂

A risky tactic for Ollie to play but it's working so far. Since we got the goal the Berties have started to get unsettled. Their still in the proverbial driving seat but if we get another goal it'll be squeaky bums time for them I think.

I expect they'll get the hairdryer treatment during the break though so should be settled down again for the start of the second half.

The next goal, if any more get scored, is going to be vital.

A strong side fielded by Ollie, Henderson gets his first senior start for United. 10 changes from our last disastrous game:

Henderson

Wan-Bissaka Bailly Maguire Williams

Fred Matic

Van de Beek

Mata Ighalo Lingard

Mata put us 0-1 up from a penalty just before halftime. Luton are playing deep and parking the proverbial bus. We've been more accurate with our shots, 6 shots and 3 on target.

Luton have had a few chances (6) but none on target.

They ended up growing into the game about halfway through the first half but the half ends 0-0.

3-0 to United in the first leg, ending a crazy unbeaten run at home for Forest, I'm pretty sure it was September last year that they last got beat over there 😲😲😲

And now we've just beaten them at Old Trafford to get to the Final at Wembley on 26th February.

The most important thing is that United are playing like United again, for the first time since Fergie retired.

We're playing fast paced attacking football again, preferring to pass the ball forwards instead of backwards and sideways.

And we're FINALLY getting rid of the Glazers.

At this time of posting we're in the Worthless Cup Final, still in the FA Cup, still in the Europa League and are in the top four.

I don't think we'll do the Quadruple though lol, but I'll be more than happy with a top four place and one trophy in the cabinet at the end of the season, especially after how last season ended. 😲😲😲
