Title: The Premiership 2018-2019 Thread
Post by: harv on August 10, 2018, 07:34:27 PM
First match kicks off in half an hour. Team news for United:

De Gea

Darmian Bailly Lindelof Shaw

Fred Pereira Pogba

Mata Rashford Sanchez

Looks like Pereira as the number 6 in a 4-3-3 formation. Shame we didn't get Maguire  :'(

Pogba puts United 1-0 up after a few minutes with what looked like to me to be a soft penalty. I'm not complaining though lol :P

1-0 to United at half-time and the first half has been pretty even. I'd like to see more from United during the second half in terms of attacking play, we haven't created anywhere near enough chances for my liking so far.

Bailly switched off for a second and Vardy makes it 2-1. We SHOULD have done enough to grab the three points I think but there's still time left for an equaliser.

Phew! That's full time, United won 2-1. Despite that cock up for the goal I'm giving the MOTM award to Bailly.
Title: Re: The Premiership 2018-2019 Thread

Pogba ended up getting MOTM from most people but Bailly had a better game imo.

So much for the Premier League and ISPs cutting off streamers at the source lol. There are less streams to watch but any streamer with any sense at all will be using a VPN anyway, and the United match yesterday and the Spurs match right now I'm not having to use a VPN myself which is VERY handy. ;D

Pogba just wants more money. He's not going anywhere. Even if he wants to go to Barcelona they can't afford the £100m+ transfer fee this transfer window. He's got another 2 years on his contract. This is Maureen's last season and the new manager will end up agreeing a new deal for him next year to match Sanchez's wages.

Doesn't sound like Pogba wants more money, sounds like he wants Mourinho sacked.   How long before he loses his marbles this season then?

Then no doubt we'd start hearing about Hazard to Utd rumours because of Zidane. Yeah, can't wait for that. ::)

It's not a good situation when player power starts dictating whether managers get sacked. Happened twice at Chelsea in recent seasons, first with Mourinho, then with Conte, where players basically downed tools the season after winning the title.

Not a good route to go down for a club at all.
Title: Re: The Premiership 2018-2019 Thread
Post by: jman on August 19, 2018, 07:56:23 AM
Two times?  Probably more than that, but Mourinho was a prick in his second spell, and conte picked fights, Costa, Luiz,  Willian, etc.. Mourinho was bought in to win the PL for United, but hasn't got anywhere near it... this is why it wouldn't surprise anyone if he got the boot.

2 games, 2 wins for us, haven't looked great in either though, with Luiz at the heart of defence and Kante playing as an attacking player, I'm not sure Sarri is all there to be honest ;D

Unbelievable. 3-1 down at halftime and we've been shite. Beyond shite in fact. I'm having to watch it via the Sky Sports app commentary. Pretty ridiculous that 5 Live and Talksport haven't got live commentary.

And of course the anti-United pundits are getting carried away lol. Keown in the Daily Mail has said that this is all down to Maureen unsettling United's defence. But what about three of them being among the favourites to get the MOTM award last week?

It was a bad day in the office. These things happen every now and then, nobody can explain it, it just happens. To every team.

EVERYONE is acting like City are going to have as good a season as they had last year and win the title by 19 points again. City probably won't have a season like that again for YEARS.

If he had lost the dressing room then we wouldn't have won last week. We just had a bad game. It happens.
Title: Re: The Premiership 2018-2019 Thread
Post by: jman on August 22, 2018, 07:32:14 AM
Yep, you keep thinking that.. its happened too many times before though.. Pogba and Martial are clearly unhappy.. even Mourinho is unhappy and half your team are playing like dogshite.. Mourinho's knocked all of the talent out of Sanchez, Rashford is going backwards, Bailly seems to be the new Phil Jones.. the list goes on..

Title: Re: The Premiership 2018-2019 Thread
Post by: harv on August 22, 2018, 03:27:50 PM
Bailly has had ONE bad game. Last week he, Lindelof, Shaw, Fred and Pogba were all in the running for the MOTM award.

It was simply one of those games that can be put down to 'a bad day at the office'. It happens to every side every now and then.

Personally I'd like to see Maureen getting sacked today and see Zidane given the job but it would be daft to do so BECAUSE ONLY TWO GAMES HAVE BEEN PLAYED SO FAR THIS SEASON.

As far as Martial goes it wouldn't be a bad thing for him to leave. He's nowhere near consistent enough to deserve a place in the side and I'm pretty sure that Pogba is just after a better deal.

Post by: harv on August 26, 2018, 04:55:50 PM
Nearly 80% possession for Chelsea in that first half but they've done bugger all with it so far. 8 shots on goal and only 1 shot on target. They'll need to step things up in the final third to get something out of this match in the second half.
Title: Re: The Premiership 2018-2019 Thread
Post by: harv on August 26, 2018, 05:55:19 PM
A poor performance from Chelsea and they scrape 3 points due to an own goal. Over 80% possession but just 15 attempts on goal with only 3 of those being on target.

You've got to give the manager a bit of time I guess but I haven't been too impressed so far. Early days yet though to be fair.
Title: Re: The Premiership 2018-2019 Thread
Post by: jman on August 27, 2018, 08:47:52 AM
Newcastle didn't come to play football but just to defend, highlighted by the possession stats, jorginho himself had 15%, Newcastles whole team had 18%.  So to grind out a win, that's what champions do ;) we may lack the cutting edge up-front and need to tighten the defense, but deserved all 3 wins, so you can be unimpressed all you like, it doesn't change the fact it's been 3 from 3 so far ;D

I've been mightily impressed with Mourinho this season,  when he wants to leave, he'll mentally fuck with the team/fans so much that it almost doesn't look like it's his fault.. It's all ed woodwards fault that you lost to Brighton y'know
Title: Re: The Premiership 2018-2019 Thread
Post by: harv on August 27, 2018, 12:13:22 PM
You won't win the Premiership without a quality goalscorer, and Morata certainly isn't one.

Nobody with any sense is looking at Chelsea or Liverpool in terms of Championship material, it's going to come down to United or City again...as long as we don't lose another match during these next few months.

Plenty of changes for United:

Dr Gea

Valencia Smalling Jones Shaw

Herrera Matic Fred

Lingard Lukaku Pogba

0-0 at half-time, United have had plenty more chances but nowhere near enough on target. Spurs could have had a penalty but it would have been a little soft imo.

Lol, I got it wrong last week, Lindelof is the new Phil Jones!  United will never be champions with a defense like that, unbelievable he didn't strengthen it.

Looks like Linda will be ejected from the squad like Bailly was, and another pair of players who look absolute dog shit playing under Mourinho.

Think it's fucking hilarious that plan B is still Fellaini and boot it long... this is the beginning of the Mourinho implode ;D ;D

I've been wanting him to get the sack for quite some time now. The title isn't out of our reach yet but another 4 defeats will put it out of our reach I think. Generally a title winning side doesn't lose more than 5 league matches during the season.

Nice to see you getting behind your manager and team.

Since United seem to pick up all the Chelsea rejects in recent times, conte has to be in with a shout... That would be hilarious.

But I think Jose is set to stay unless things get ridiculous...  Then you might have to get Big Sam in lol

I'm normally fully behind the manager at United, I was with Van Gaal right until the end but I've just been so fed up with Maureen these last few months in particular. Well it was to be expected I guess, being his third season and all.

I want United to be playing fast-paced, attacking football again. Something that Zidane will almost certainly do as soon as he gets the job.

Team news for United:

De Gea

Valencia Smalling Lindelof Shaw

Fellaini Matic Pogba

Lingard Lukaku Sanchez

Rashford has just got one back, nice finish too. A goal has been coming since he came on.

Pogba has just been subbed too. That's going to fuel the rumour mill a fair bit.

I honestly think that Pogba has brought up his opinion that United need to attack more during several team meetings and did the right thing by making that public statement. This is the sort of thing that a captain NEEDS to do and he should be applauded for it.

I think Maureen may have started to lose the dressing room now.

And now The Hammers make it 3-1. Game over I think now.

Another terrible performance from United who only decided to start playing for the last 20 minutes against Valencia in their Champions League match. And they were booed off too. He's lost the dressing room, is starting to lose the fans so hopefully he's not too far away from losing his job and giving Zidane a go at the helm. Apart from the last 20 minutes that match was painful to watch at times.

2-2 at full time. I don't think a draw away against Chelsea is going to see him getting sacked unfortunately, it could be argued that United were unlucky not to win the game.

Unfortunately missed the entire game and Mourinhos supposed meltdown, don't understand why morata started... 2 points dropped for us.. A good point for United

Tahith Chong has been training with the first team again. The best Academy player I've seen at United for years. Hopefully he'll get a run out against Juventus this week but this is Maureen we're talking about, he's probably too much of an attacking player to get much of a look in lol :( >:(

I did predict a while back that both Chong and Gomes would break through the first team this season, I hope I'm right. Both players are REALLY special.

United 1-0 up against Everton at halftime through a dodgy penalty. They deserve to go in ahead, Martial in particular has caused them all sorts of problems.

We'll probably end up winning this I think so Maureen will continue to keep his bloody job.

Nice brace from Morata yesterday.. that puts him ahead of Lukaku (and Firmino) on goals.. but of course, Chelsea won't win the title because they haven't got a decent striker.. right harv. ;D ;D

Actually you can't really judge ANY of them because Maureen made absolutely no effort to play to their strengths and had them in a side that was (just like the players had done with Van Gaal) playing negative football at a slow pace passing sideways every five minutes.

You can't judge the attacking players because they didn't do a great deal of attacking and you can't really judge the defensive players because they were playing defensive practically all the time. Defending is only half of a defender's game in normal circumstances. Our centre backs weren't making driving runs through the middle of the park the way they should have been (especially Jones and Lindelof) and our full backs weren't racing forward, beating opponents with the ball at their feet and sticking crosses in.

Apart from Bailly, Matic and Grant those players should have been spending most of their time pushing forward and leaving defensive duties for when opponents counter attacked.

I'm just hoping that whoever takes over brings us back to playing positive, fast-paced attacking football with penetration again, something we haven't seen since Fergie left. We should be passing forwards, not backwards and sideways.

Well let's hope his managerial prowess has improved since he was last working in this country lol

I would have preferred Nicky Butt tbh but United confirmed early on that wasn't happening.

So we'll have our Ollie until the end of the season and then Zidane taking over in the Summer. He's left with a right nightmare of a pre-season though.

If I was well enough to work I would have bunged my CV their way, with the work I did on Champ Man I've probably got over a thousand years of managerial experience and I've won every single trophy in the game multiple times.

That most decorated manager does the same thing at every club he joins. He starts his job, wins a trophy or two and then pisses off players, staff and/or board members resulting in his club dropping down the table and getting the sack and a huge pay out.

The board extending his contract was one of the most ridiculous business decisions I've seen at club football, everybody could see this happening a mile away.

Zidane will do fine as long as he's given time. It's going to take him a while to get used to the pace and physicality of the Premiership. Pep had the same problem in his first season.

Hopefully Ollie will start United playing decent football again and let our players off the leash.

Didn't Mourinhos side knock 4 past Fulham?

Yes, both Mourinho and Van Gaal have had a few matches where they scored four goals, but these were very rare occurrences.

I'd love to see the BBC, SKy or BT Sport doing a comparison of the amount of forward passing United did yesterday compared to the average of forward passes during both Van Gaal's and Mourinho's tenures. I'm surprised that none of these channels had it prepared tbh.

Now the important question is, is Maureen finally finished as a manager? He has to be now, surely? There's talk of him getting the Real Madras job but that has to be nonsense, right? Right? :o

Lindelof unlucky not to score but Matic puts it away. Goal from a corner, well worked.

It's so much better seeing United playing with pace. Some of our moves are taking three or four passes to put together whereas under Mourinho we were talking double figures due to a slower pace of attack and passes going sideways and backwards.

Huddersfield looking dangerous from set pieces though.

A much better half from Huddersfield, I think we're going to need a second goal.

Pogba gets number three. A fantastic finish.

This is what happens when you set up a team to play to Pogba's strengths and give him a free role. This is what happens when you play attacking football.

Yes, we've only played Cardiff and Huddersfield under Ollie so far, but the difference between Ollie's United and the United of Maureen and Van Gaal is bloody HUUUUUGE.

Should have been aw bollocks. Bloody auto correct lol

Very happy with the improvement that he's made in such a short amount of time, that's 8 goals for and only 2 against in two matches.

It's still early days, Spurs will be more of a test but now that United are starting to FINALLY attack teams with width, pace and penetration it's a lot easier to watch them compared to how they were under both van Gaal and Maureen.

If he manages to get a top four place or even CLOSE to a top four place I'll be happy to see him get the permanent job tbh. I'm just glad that we fucked Maureen off before he did too much damage, although I would have been happier to see him sacked earlier.

Pogba has been involved in four goals (two goals and two assists) in the two matches that he has played in under Ollie, he was involved in four goals (one goal and three assists) in the last twelve matches under Maureen.

Kind of says it all really tbh. :o

Here's a comparison of stats between Pogba playing under Ollie and Pogba playing under Maureen:
Code: [Select]
                             Ollie      Jose

Games Played                    3 14
Minutes Played               270 1136
Goals per game              1.33 0.24
Assists per game         1 0.24
Shots per game              4.33 3.17
Shots on target per game 3 1.66
Chances Created per game 2.67 1.43
Passes per game              96.33 64.17
Passing Accuracy       86.2 82.8
Tackles per game         2 1.11
Interceptions               1.33 0.4
Touches                     113.67 86.59

Says it all really lol

I'm surprised none of these newspapers or TV stations or pundits have dived into the stats for passes forward under Ollie, van Gaal and Maureen. I reckon we must be playing three or four times more passes forward compared to playing under those two managers. :o

Shit. The latest rumour is that we're going to sign Costa. I fucking hope not, the man is a disgrace to football. Hopefully the more accurate sounding rumour is going to work out to be true - Ollie isn't going to be given any money to spend, and any new players must be free transfers or loan deals.

Yet harv idolises Cantona.. the guy who kung fu kicked a fan in the face.  Costa didn't ever get a PL red card for Chelsea.. he's an angel compared.

Besides, this will never happen, dunno where you even got the idea from.. why would he want to take a step backwards and go to United ;)

And the red scouse gits had their first wobble last night. If the goal line technology wasn't as accurate as it is they might have got a result if that goal had stood!

A bit of time off for some of our players with us playing Reading in the FA Cup tomorrow afternoon, Ollie is bound to be resting a good few of our players and then they're all off to Dubai for a bit of warm weather training like they did last year with Maureen.

And then they're back for Ollie's first proper test against the Spuds. I'm A LOT more comfortable with us playing any of the top 5 under Ollie than I ever was with Maureen and van Gaal, it's going to be interesting to see how he does against better competition.

arse dropped another 3 points this afternoon. Hopefully Chelsea are going to do the same so that we get closer to 4th place if we beat Spurs tomorrow!

We'll probably be playing deeper than we have been for Ollie's first four matches tomorrow and look to catch Spurs on the break. Maybe 10 yards or so deeper than we have been, so the line isn't going to be quite so high. Ollie has said that we're not going to go naively gung-ho but that doesn't mean that he's going to do a Maureen and play defensively for 90 minutes. We'll still play attacking football I think but we won't be playing with such a high line as we have been lately.

I'm still expecting our full backs pushing forward because when we lose possession our two defensive midfielders will cover them until they can race back again.

A MUCH bigger test for Ollie tomorrow but now that we're playing fast-paced attacking football again I'm A LOT more confident about playing the current top 5 teams than I ever was with Maureen in charge. 8)

I'm not sure if Ollie is going to win tomorrow because winning 6 games on the trot is quite a big ask, not even Sir Matt Busby managed that but I'll be happy with a point away from home tbh.

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11606793/manchester-united-counter-attack-thriving-under-ole-gunnar-solskjaer

Some stats that pretty much say EVERYTHING about Maureen's 3rd season:

Quote
Opta define a fast break as an attempt created when a team turns defence into attack after winning the ball in their own half. United had three such breaks in the first 45 minutes alone - as many as in their 17 full matches under Mourinho this season.

Quote
Indeed, no team in the Premier League had fewer counter-attacks than Mourinho's United. They were joint last alongside Cardiff and Huddersfield with just three. Solskjaer's United have had seven in the past two matches. No team has had as many since he took over. They have gone from the worst counter-attacking side in the Premier League to the best.

That is what parking the bus and passes going sideways and backwards instead of forwards does to a side.

Maureen should hang his head in shame. >:(

United are back. Trophies will follow soon(ish). 8)

Chelsea were godawful today, that's the gap that WAS 11 points when Ollie took over cut down to 3. And our Goal Difference has gone up from what was an embarrassing -1 to +16.

The only concern I have is our second half performances not being great because they look pretty knackered but Ollie and his staff are working on that so hopefully we'll see an improvement during these next few weeks. United have spent so little time attacking these last four and a half years that their bodies aren't used to using that extra energy that these runs take both pressing and running into space during attacks.

I'm just glad that we got shot of Maureen before it was too late like Chelsea did not so long ago. I don't think anyone was expecting Ollie to have this great a start though, that's 7 wins out of 7. :o

A few changes for United:

Dr Gea

Young Lindelof Jones Shaw

Pereira Matic Pogba

Mata Lukaku Rashford

Bench: Romero, Herrera, Fred, Dalot, Lingard, Smalling, Sanchez

So it's looking like Herrera is being rested, Martial is injured and we'll probably see Rashford on the left in a 4-3-3 with Pogba as the number 10.

Burnley will probably park the proverbial bus and rely on set pieces to cause us a few problems during counter attacks I think.

Decent performance from both sides so far, Burnley have been poor in the final third and United haven't been anywhere near as clinical as they have been during recent weeks.

Burnley have defended well but you can't help thinking that it's only a matter of time before they get a goal.

De Gea

Young Bailly Lindelof Shaw

Herrera Matic Pogba

Lingard Rashford Sanchez

Another assist from Pogba and Rashford put us 0-1 up early on. The Foxes happy to give us possession and are looking to catch us on the break. A risky thing to do with the attacking talent we have. They've started to attack more since we scored though.

De Gea, Young, Lindelof, Smalling, Shaw, Dalot, McTominay, Fred, Pogba, Sanchez, Lukaku.

Bench: Romero, Bailly, Rojo, Pereira, Garner, Chong, Rashford

I was hoping that Chongy would get a start on the right but it's looking like Dalot will start there instead. No Gomes either.

A nice 15 yard from Shaw taking on and beating defenders followed by a clever lay off to Lukaku who has an easy finish. 0-1 to United.

I've had a nightmare with streams tonight, have missed 20 minutes or so off and on so I'm glad to catch that goal.

And that's full time, a 1-3 win and another three points.

Ollie's record is VERY impressive so far:

P15 W13 D1 L1 F33 A10

And those wins include Spurs away, arse away and Chelsea away, and we've just beaten Palace away who had previously gone 6 games unbeaten.

Not too shabby at all.  8)

4 academy products starting and 2 on the bench. United have had a crazy run with their academy players. They've had at least one academy product either on the bench or in the starting 11 for every single first team game played since 1937. Has to be a world record. :o

United back in 4th place now, 1 point ahead of arse who drew against Spurs and 5 points ahead of Chelsea who have two games in hand. United play arse away a week on Sunday and Chelsea at home at the end of April. We're now only 3 points behind Spurs in 3rd place too.

If United end up getting 4th place, let alone 3rd, Ollie should win some sort of award. I'm expecting Sainthood myself, considering it would take a miracle to get United into 4th place according to Maureen lol ;D

Hazard ended up getting one back and it finished 1-1. 2 points dropped.

Arse looking like they're playing with 3 at the back, they look like they're going to attack.

Both Young and Dalot are playing with the latter out wide.

De Gea

Young Lindelof Smalling Shaw

Dalot Matic Fred Pogba

Lukaku Rashford

Bench: Romero, Bailly, Rojo, McTominay, Pereira, Martial, Greenwood.

Was hoping to see Chongy on the bench again but we've still got three academy products on the bench and one starting. It's a real incredible record that United have.

That result leaves us (before this match has played) a point ahead of both arse and Chelsea after all three have played 29 games.

Team news for United, 6 changes:

De Gea

Young Lindelof Smalling Shaw

Fred McTominay Pogba

Dalot Lukaku Lingard

Bench: Romero, Jones, Rojo, Matic, Pereira, Mata, Martial

Every match is a must win for United, Spurs, arse and Chelsea for the race to third and fourth place. We've got the most difficult run in but despite that we're probably looking likely to drop less points than the others since Ollie took over in December. We're scoring plenty and not conceding that many so far since he got the job and have beaten Spurs, arse, Chelsea and PSG away from home.

We've also got only three away matches to play I think, including this one.

Even if we don't make it into fourth place it's still going to be an improvement over Maureen unless we drop loads of points. The man was a disaster and should be finished as far as top jobs are concerned. I'm surprised that we gave him a job after the complete mess he left at your lot.

Think that was the biggest cock-up by far ;D  we were shit and probably should have won... says it all.

Lukaku giving Higuain a good run for shittest PL striker of the season, how many offsides did they both get today?

Heard Costa is on the transfer market.. it's a no brainer, get him back!

That's because the forums have been dead for a few days. Haven't been able to gain access for some reason. Just tried it just now and things are back!

I'm hoping to see Ollie playing the kids in the Europa League next season if UEFA will let us get away with it.

We might see a few of them getting a start on Sunday I think.

De Gea and Pogba will probably leave in the Summer I think but that's a discussion for the transfer rumours thread. 8)

Team news for United:

De Gea, Young, Jones, Smalling, Dalot, Pereira, McTominay, Pogba, Lingard, Rashford, Greenwood

Subs: Romero, Mata, Martial, Fred, Valencia, Garner, Gomes.

Greenwood becomes our youngest Premiership starter at 17 years and 223 days old. I would have started him last week tbh.

So that's 6 Academy products starting and two on the bench. 8)

United a goal down due to a dodgy penalty apparently. No idea whether it was a penalty or not. Bloody streams are shite today, buffering all over the place  :'(

United 1-0 down at halftime, Greenwood having a good game apparently.

Got a decent stream now but missed the first half apart from a few bits here and there when the buffering stopped for a minute or so.

Shite. 0-2 now. Looks like we're going to be stuck with Europa League qualification at the end of July the way things are going. >:(

Valencia on for Dalot for his last appearance for the club and Gomes on for Pereira.

0-2 final score and that's us stuck with having to qualify for Europa League football in July.

I'm hoping that Ollie is going to play the kids and reserves for that competition next season to save it from messing up our season next season but UEFA will probably prevent us from doing so.

Greenwood had a good game, on another day he would have ended up with the match ball.

At least the red scouse gits didn't win the Premiership, I'll take any consolation I can get at the moment lol ;D

Just had a look at the table and we ended up 5 points away from 4th place so Ollie managed to claw back 6 points after United were 11 points away when we fucked Maureen off.

A lot of work to do in the Summer and for the next few years but I'm happy with Ollie at the wheel and the board and fans need to give him time to repair the damage that Moyes, van Gaal and Maureen have all done to the club over the years.

lolol, United were trash, I was watching every game simultaneously in a British pub in America and had to laugh that United got stuffed at home to Cardiff.

United to get relegated next season?

Pogba's agent has received a six month transfer ban so we're stuck with him I think unless he changes his agent. Martial is also rumoured to be on his way out too.
