Title: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 01, 2020, 05:26:17 PM
Group H

United
PSG
Leipzig
Istanbul Basaksehir

Well that draw was a fix, two of the last four sides left in the competition last season and a difficult trip to Turkey. 😲😂

Group E

Chelsea
Sevilla
Rennes
Krasnodar

Group D

Red scouse gits
Ajax
Atlantic
Midtiylland

Group C

City
Porto
Olympiacos
Marseille

Piss easy group for the Berties.

That bloody draw took FOREVER 😲

United playing with three at the back:

De Gea

Tuanzebe Lindelof Shaw

Wan-Bissaka Fred McTominay Telles

Fernandes

Rashford Martial

United defending REALLY well so far and we're causing them problems going forward.

United went a goal ahead through a Fernandes penalty that had to be retaken when their keeper saved the first effort off the line.

Post by: harv on October 20, 2020, 08:56:11 PM
And that's United 0-1 up at halftime and a great performance so far, particularly at the back.

United have had 4 attempts on goal with 2 on target and PSG have had 5 attempts on goal with 2 on target despite having 58.9% of possession.

This would be a great start to a difficult run of fixtures if we can come out of this game with a point at least. 😎😁😎

Bollocks. A Martial own goal makes it 1-1 😲😭

Post by: harv on October 20, 2020, 09:27:19 PM
United are under A LOT of pressure now, we're relying on the counter a lot more this half.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 20, 2020, 09:30:44 PM
Pogba on for Telles who's had a good debut.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread

United piling on the pressure now.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread

A REALLY open game now. This could go either way.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 20, 2020, 09:52:13 PM
Rashford scores a cracking goal to put us 1-2 up, assist from Pogba.

I can see Ollie making a few changes now to run down the clock.

Yup. Van de Beek on for Fernandes and James on for Martial.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 20, 2020, 09:56:34 PM
And that's a 1-2 away win for United against one of the competition's Finalists last season.

A great performance and a great result that came down to our more clinical finishing. 😎😁😎😁😎

A draw for Chelsea on Tuesday and wins for both the red scouse gits and the Berties last night. 😁
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 28, 2020, 07:15:11 PM
Team news for United, looks like a 4-4-2 with a diamond going by the side he's putting out:

De Gea

Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw

Matic

Fred Pogba

van de Beek

Greenwood Martial

Could also play 4-3-3 with a number 6 too but I think the shape above is more likely 😁
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 28, 2020, 08:24:52 PM
Greenwood just scored but looks offside to me.

Nope. It's been given!!! 😲

It's been quite a fast-paced game so far, good to watch.

1-0 to United 😎😁😎
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 28, 2020, 09:16:53 PM
1-0 to United at halftime. As soon as I said it was fast paced the game slowed right down lmfao, the first 20 minutes were great 😂

Another 45 minutes to go yet so it's not over yet but we've looked pretty good in Europe so far against two sides that were amongst the last four in the competition.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 28, 2020, 09:21:55 PM
Rashford and McTominay on for Greenwood and Matic.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 28, 2020, 09:26:02 PM
Fernandes on for van de Beek.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 28, 2020, 09:37:57 PM
Another assist from Fernandes and a sublime finish from Rashford and it's now 2-0 to United.

Looked offside to me though 😲

And as I was typing this he's got another one!!! Lovely goal too. 😎😁😎

3-0 and unless we do something REALLY stupid that's 6 points from our first two games against two of the best sides in the competition.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 28, 2020, 09:40:29 PM
Totally forgot about the 5 sub rule, Cavani and Tuanzebe on for Pogba and Wan-Bissaka!
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 28, 2020, 09:46:51 PM
Martial gets number four from the spot. Don't know what the defender was thinking 😲😂

This is now officially a rout. 😲

And Cavani just had a goal disallowed for offside 😂😂😂
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 28, 2020, 09:51:23 PM
5-0 now, Rashford again and an assist from Martial. 😲
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on October 28, 2020, 09:56:35 PM
And that's all over. A hat trick from Rashford, a goal from Greenwood now he's off the naughty step (I don't believe for a second that he was injured!) and the first goal of the season from Martial.

I thought we'd do well to get four points from these first two matches but we've got 6 points, 7 goals scored and 1 conceded. And that was an own goal too.

What a nice birthday present from United 😎😁😎😂

2-1. That's better. A rare header from Martial.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread

2-1 at halftime. They're causing us some REAL problems on the break. ☹

Good time to get one back though 😁
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on November 24, 2020, 07:08:17 PM
Thought I'd posted the final score there the other week! The brain is always the first thing to go! 😲😂

Team news for United:

De Gea

Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Telles

Fred van de Beek

Rashford Fernandes Martial

Cavani

A VERY attacking line up there. No idea what formation they're going to play, Ollie certainly has plenty of options there with regards to tactics.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on November 24, 2020, 08:10:56 PM
Brunooooooo 😲😁😎

1-0 to United, that nearly broke the net.

Really liking the look of Rashford, Martial and Cavani up front together. Martial and Rashford have caused them all sorts of problems in the first 5 minutes.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread

What would have been a beautiful United goal from Rashford was offside.

United are purring at the moment.

The Turks have started to grow into the game now but Rashford has just won a penalty and Fernandes gives it to him, thought he'd be after the hat trick.

And Rashford makes it 3-0. 😎😁😎
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on November 24, 2020, 08:55:26 PM
3-0 to United at halftime 😎😁😎

United have had 7 attempts on goal and 5 on target, we've been clinical. They've had 6 attempts on goal and only one on target but most of those haven't been good chances.

United have been the MUCH better side in that first half but they're still looking dangerous on the break.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on November 24, 2020, 09:05:00 PM
Tuanzebe on for Lindelof who was struggling with his back at the end of the first half.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread

Williams, James and Greenwood on for Wan-Bissaka, Rashford and Fernandes.

James makes it 4-1, assist from Greenwood 😁

Makes this final couple of minutes more relaxing 😂
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on November 24, 2020, 09:59:09 PM
And that's the final score.

United pretty much took their foot off the pedal in the second half and allowed them back into the game.

van de Beek JUST edges Fernandes for the MOTM tonight, Ollie will be a fool not to start him at the weekend.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on November 26, 2020, 03:46:39 AM
Brunooooooo has been involved in 16 goals (11 goals and 5 assists) in 14 games in Europe, has scored 20 goals in his first 35 games since joining United. And has been involved in 24 goals (14 goals and 10 assists) in the Premier League since we signed him. 😲

I'm SO pissed off that Ollie didn't get the backing from the board to sign Haaland, Grealish and Sancho. With even two of those three players signed we'd be well clear at the top of the table, nobody would be able to touch us. We'd be unplayable. 🤬😡🤬

Haaland is scoring a RIDICULOUS amount of goals since he signed for Dortmund 😲

How many of Bruno's goals have been penalties?

You're 13th with a goal difference of -1  ::)  Stop living in dream land.

Games in hand don't matter unless you win them.. rather have the points in the bag.

12 out of 21 so far I think. So that's 9 goals in open play. But where he REALLY stands out is with his assists.

Statistically he's the best midfielder in the world at the moment.

Team news for United, three changes from the side that beat the Saints at the weekend:

De Gea

Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Telles

McTominay Fred

Rashford Fernandes Martial

Cavani

Subs: Henderson, Bailly, Fosu-Mensah, Williams, James, Lingard, Mata, Pogba, Van De Beek, Greenwood, Ighalo

I thought Ollie might have gone for three at the back again but Tuanzebe is suspended I think.

Rashford gets an equaliser from a deflection, it'll probably go down as an own goal from the Dubious Goals Panel I would have thought but I'm sure he'll claim it. 😁😎

1-1.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on December 02, 2020, 08:47:08 PM
Think Fred might come off for Matic at halftime, he's walking a tightrope at the moment. He accidentally trod on the exact same player's foot that he nutted earlier. The other player got booked instead which looked like the right decision at full speed but the slow motion replay showed he trod on his foot. No intent there but he could have got booked for it and sent off.

Bollocks. Neymar, 1-3 and game over.

Means we need at least a point in our last match to go through. Not a COMPLETE disaster but I would have preferred a point at least today so that there was less pressure on the last match. ☹
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on December 08, 2020, 07:40:24 PM
Team news for United tonight:

De Gea

Lindelof Maguire Shaw

Wan-Bissaka McTominay Matic Telles

Fernandes

Greenwood Rashford

Three at the back against Leipzig tonight and the right decision I think. With no Upamecano their back four might have problems dealing with the combination of Greenwood, Fernandes and Rashford up front being supported out wide by either Wan-Bissaka or Telles.

Such a shame that Cavani is injured though. Pogba not starting tonight, probably due to his agent's comments the night before such a big game and another big game on the weekend.

I don't want him wearing a United shirt ever again the way that he's disrespected the club and most importantly us fans. There's talk of us doing a swap with Juventus for Ronnie in January. Hope this happens, Ronnie has NEVER disrespected the club and never will do.

I don't have a problem with him wanting to leave, but if you're going to have your agent making comments like that you don't have them doing so before two of the biggest games of the season so far. You do it in January when the transfer window opens ffs 😲🤬😡🤬😲

Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on December 08, 2020, 08:55:31 PM
2-0 at halftime, the last 20 minutes or so was better for United, we've had 6 attempts on goal but just 1 on target and Leipzig have had 6 with three on target.

We need to be MUCH more clinical in the second half.

The next goal is going to be VITAL. If they get it the game is over, if we get it then we've a chance of getting the point we need.

PSG's match was suspended earlier on due to racist abuse apparently.
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on December 08, 2020, 09:03:40 PM
Apparently the racist grief was a language issue 😲😂

The fourth official said, the black guy, and in Romanian the word for the colour black is negro pronounced with an ee sound rather than the French pronunciation of the same name for that colour having an eh sound. Oops 😲😂

The fourth official has now been taken off the game. Unfortunate because I don't think he meant anything by it.

Stupid goal to give away. 3-0. Terrible defending from Maguire. Fuck. That's us out now, not even the Comeback Kings can come back from this.

Our only hope of going through now is PSG getting beat and I can't see that happening.

So pissed off right now. Us getting lumbered with Europa League football is going to completely fuck up our entire season.🤬😡🤬😭

Title: Re: The Champions League Thread
Post by: harv on December 08, 2020, 10:03:34 PM
Bollocks. Think that's us out now even if PSG lose because of the head to head thing.

We weren't helped by our wing backs, particularly Wan-Bissaka, being poor in the first half.

We played better when we switched to a 4-4-2 diamond but our first half just did us too much damage to us.

Now Ollie is going to have some important decisions to make going forward. If he has brass ones big enough he could field a weekend side every Thursday, particularly if we're in a position to challenge for the Premiership during this month.

Well there's no shame in finishing where we did, we were in a group with last year's Semi Finalist and last year's Finalist. So effectively the 2nd best and 3rd/4th best sides in Europe last year. I'm just hoping that Ollie doesn't treat the competition too seriously, if things go right for us over Christmas and the New Year and we can do a swap deal for Pogba and Ronnie we've got a decent chance of winning the Premiership. The Premiership is wide open this year.

I did say it takes too long for that many players to gel. That's why you had a disastrous start to the season. As the season went on the players started to gel towards the end, culminating in your Champions League win.

So I've basically been proven quite correct. 😉

Boring final IMO 😴.

I think Pep messed up not picking a recognised striker and putting it on young Fodens head was a mistake. I’ll get over it, shame they both counldn’t lose, but half of the scummy 6 have lost finals in the last month, which has been quiet nice, even if it meant Chel$ea won one in the end. Anytime these clubs lose a final makes me happy...or any game actually 🙂

Shite, lost our first game 2-1 with a goal at the last minute. 🤬😡🤬

Wan-Bissaka got deservedly sent off after 35 minutes with an out of control challenge over the top after Ronnie put us 0-1 up after 13 minutes.

Then came an equaliser in the second half and I thought we'd done enough to earn a point. Right until Lingard made a bizarre pass back meant for De Gea only to give it to a Young Boys player who slotted it home 😭😭😭

Not a complete disaster but it puts a lot more pressure on us for the other matches.

We were defending REALLY well too up until that point as well. 🤬😡🤬

Wish we'd sold Lingard in the bloody Summer lol 😭😂😭

United 0-2 down at halftime and as things stand we're at the bottom of the table.

I'm not screaming for Ollie's head yet, it's only October but the side were booed coming off the pitch. On another day we would have got a couple of goals but we're not having a lot of luck. 😭☹😭
Title: Re: The Champions League Thread

And THAT is the progress that United have shown under Ollie. With Moyes, van Gaal and Maureen if we went even ONE goal down United fans' heads and most importantly the PLAYERS' heads used to drop.

We started off the second half bottom of the table, 0-2 down, and finished it by winning 3-2 with goals from Rashford, Maguire and the winner by Ronnie.

My nerves are completely shot now lololol 😲😂😂😂

The players have shown that they're behind the manager, bring on the red scouse gits 😎😁😎😝

Well nobody in the United squad can say that they haven't been given a chance to impress. With a couple of exceptions a third string side drew 1-1 with Young Boys. The highlight of this match was Mengi impressing yet again when given a chance in the senior side as well as both goals being of exceptional quality. United's goal came from Greenwood and the assist from Shaw. A real top quality finish.
