Manager Interview - Deca
« on: September 10, 2017, 02:00:30 AM »
Deca is the latest manager to take part in the Manager Interview.

His Q & A's are below:

Q. How long have you been playing Sunday League?

A. I started playing March 2004, so over 13 years now.

Q. What got you in to Sunday League to begin with?

A. I loved PC football management games and was looking for a good online football management, so did a search and found Sunday League, and after a few weeks i was hooked.

Q. Were you on any other servers before the merge on to one server?

A. I started on the team talk server

Q. What are some of your biggest achievements on Sunday League?

A. I've won just about everything there is to win on SL, with both my Aston Villains & Cubana Villains.

Q. Who is your biggest rival on Sunday League at the moment?

A. Lot's of great teams and great managers, so lot's of rivalry at the top. I remember way back, Big Nick and his Anfield Road Rangers, he was awesome and unbeatable at one stage. Also remember was back on Teamtalk, and after the merger Frenchy and his Byron Park team, he taught me a lot about the game in my early days, and he was my role model for success, which i eventually started to achieve.

Q. Why did you choose the team name you have?

A. I'm a life long Aston Villa fan, and love Cuba, and have been their a few times and love salsa dancing.

Q. What goals do you have for the future on Sunday League?

A. Try and win as much as i can, i don't put the homework in that i used to do, but still achieving a fairly decent success rate. i used to have spreadsheets set up for opponents so I could study what their tactics were likely to be, and use the results to fine tune my tactics but don't have as much time to do that nowadays.

Q. What would you call your biggest loss on Sunday League?

A. I've had quite a few losses and disappointments, but that goes with having lot's of success too. i suppose my biggest loss was when we started to lose a lot of managers to SL2, or leaving the game permanently.

Q. Which Conference would you say is the toughest right now on Sunday League?

A. I don't believe any conferences are easier to win. They are all tough, and it's an achievement winning any conference title.

Q. You do a lot of work on the manager rankings at the end of the season, would you care to explain how it's done and how much time it takes for all the other managers on the game?

A. I started doing the manager rankings quite a few years ago. I have a spreadsheet set up with all the teams and all the ranking points gained over 33-34 seasons. It takes me about 2 hours at the end of each season to input the last seasons results and then update the overall rankings. As future development I'd love this to be included in SL as an automatic update, to go along with or replace the management table rankings. I love doing the rankings and feel glad to contribute to the game.

Q. Which Football team do you support and why?

A. Aston Villa are my team, I've supported them all my life and used to go to all the matches when in my teens. They were my local team when i lived in Birmingham, but have lived in Reading for the last 25 years. I'm very much an armchair supporter now.

Q. What is your favourite Football memory?

A.When Villa won the European Cup back in 1982, Peter Withe scored the winner. I couldn't afford to travel to the match and there was no TV coverage so had to listen to the match on the radio.

Q. Lastly, If you could change one thing on Sunday League, what would it be?

A. Add the automatic rankings in as mentioned earlier, wouldn't be difficult to do. Would love it if also we had the option to sell players as well as buy players. Maybe have a youth squad. I've heard that Junior may be developing SL1 so hope this is the case, and hope we can attract more players, and managers returning.

The majority of long standing SL1 managers have been loyal to the game over many years, so it would be nice to be rewarded with some future updates.

Thanks to Deca for taking the time to fill this out.

The manager rankings are awesome, even though I don't feature much in them.  The History of the game adds to its attraction.

Nice reading about you, Deca. And it's great to see a familiar face from the old days in 7-1-1. Not too much has changed with you - still dominating!   :'( ;D
