RESULTS

Anybody able to explain why I only won this game 1-0?

http://smokey2.sundayleague.com/cgi-bin/sundayleague/match.pl?fixtureid=9370252

He's playing longball in windy conditions, longball on normal pitch, i have 90 mins tactical advantage, i have right boots on he doesn't.

I know his team is stronger but considering all this still should have been alot more than 1-0.

Can anyone shed some light into this for my knowledge of how the match engine works?

Thanks

I'd be interested to know how much weight is given to moral and  gelling if anybody knows. I've always wondered about it and spend a lot of time , a hell of a lot actually, trying to rotate my team and train them well, to make sure that those stats are high. Yet  most of the comments on here seem to suggest that the only thing that matters is the old Defence > Counter>Attack> Defence  etc.  So which do people think really matters?

Also, the talk of " this Match Engine" worries me.  Is there more than one?  Does it change form time to time  to give different weight to different attributes?  It may be good if it does but I'd really like to know  before spending lot of time on analysis.

How does the match engine work anyway?  Does it calculate a result for the whole game  based on team stats and tactics   or does it play out the game in stages?  Say 15 minutes at a time or even minute  by minute?  Obviously it can give the impression of any by the way it presents results   ( eg a goal scored in the 14th minute  suggests mine by minute analysis but really the result could have been determined based on overall stats for the game an then just presented like that)

Also does the engine look at different areas of the game  e.g. the strength of the attack v the strength of the opponents defence to see if the attack are likely to score.. or does it just look at overall team strength?  Depending on the answer to that does it get even more sophisticated and look at individual stats   e.g. does having a lot of pace in attack really matter, versus  the pace of the opponent defence?  does having bite in midfield ( i.e. high taking stats) have a bigger influence if you are playing a passing game.against somebody who has good tackling attributes..or does the engine just l look at overall team team stats?)

I'd love to know the answer to these questions. I really hope the game is quite complicated and isn't just about over all team strength and whether you win the lottery of Def. C/A>Attack etc. If it isn't I'm waiting a great deal of time  ??? 8)

I dont think anyone knows exactly how it works, but As far as i know, att - CA - def is the main thing that determines result, then factors in things like:

Team strength ( including team gelling, morale, players in correct position and attributes)

playing style compared the ground( i.e playing passing on a muddy pitch vs playing longball on a muddy pitch, if both teams exactly the same say all players maxed to 99s one played 4-5-1 passing and other players 4-3-3 longball, longball should win as other team should be penalised for playing passing on muddy pitch. )

Boots against ground

Aggression

home/away

probably more that i cant think of right now...

Been wondering the same recently. I've touched upon in the advantages of gelling before in a questions thread, as I still have the same lingering questions regarding the following;

1. The higher the collective gelling total than your opponent = big / small advantage?
2. Any additional advantage for having starting XI all on 100?
3. Is there any gelling advantage at all if all players aren't on 100?
4. If Q1 applies, the impact of players that have 0 gelling in an otherwise starting XI of 100
(ie. subs that are rarely played replacing injured / awol players)

Just to add a little more on your first point, I'm not one to complain about ME results at all. Infact, I would like the ideal of the ME throwing a curveball and having a few random results to make the game interesting - I mean we have all seen the Wigan 1 Man City 0's happen before and know football doesn't always go the way you expect.

In my first league game 2 nights ago {{{UC 1 v 0 FREM}}} I was the slight favourite (player wise) and just pipped the opposition on tactical advantage but came away with a narrow defeat. Did home advantage play a factor, or perhaps did he have a greater morale / fitness than me? I believe I went into the game with higher collective gelling stats. Back to the drawing board!

Hah, things happen. A match I should (on paper and with respect to my opponent) have won comfortably turns into a 0-4 thanks to one mistake with my Subs.  No other mistakes and no underestimation of my opponent. Just aggggggghhhhh.  :-[

Ce'st la vie, I messed up and he didn't but it shows how sometimes a tiny lack of concentration can turn things around. I should know by now but I won't make the same kind of mistake ever again (but I wouldn't bet on it  ;) ).
