For my first substantive contribution to the Friendly League discourse (after a dang decade or so playing this foolishness), I'm going to try an experiment, triggered by Brian's tip of me to win FL3.

I'm glad my longevity and my stumbling into FL promotion last season have gained me some credibility, but anybody who thinks I'm good at this game is a straight fool. I can beat the teams I'm supposed to beat, and I think I'm good at developing talent, but I falter when I try to make the leap at any level - outbid for the best players, a joke at lineup selection, all that.

That, and as we have been bantering about on the site chat, the top team in our league lost their one game...by an 8-10 scoreline...to an UNMANAGED TEAM. There are many other leagues on Smokey that have it going on. Love you, Gull, but 6-1-1 ain't it.

SO. I am playing with a bit of analytics theory and I have a test strength-of-side ranking that I'm going to use to make my tips. I'm not giving away the formula yet, because it might be hot garbage. And I need to see if I can extend it to the FL. But we're going to give this a cut.

And this feels more right, because the return of Didier Drogba Fan Club to the FL sent a shiver up my spine when I saw it, and I'm a long-practiced mid-table side.

DR. CHUCK'S FL3 PREDICTIONS FOR SEASON 76
-------->8---------clip and save---------8<--------
(1) Didier Drogba Fan Club (2-1-1; 2.275)
(2) The Huckley Way (1-1-1; 2.265)
(3) Spartak (2-1-1; 1.874)
(4) The Red Dragon (1-1-1; 1.816)
(5) Winners United (7-1-1; 1.789)
(6) Surreal Madrid (4-1-1; 1.578)
(7) Hunt Park Rovers (6-1-1; 1.577) [1]
(8) Team Logan John (4-1-1; 1.564)
(9) The Blurred Crusade (6-1-1; 1.359)
(10) Melchester Rovers FC (5-1-1; 1.164)
(11) Sporting Messi FC (5-1-1; 1.149)
(12) Essex Exiles (5-1-1; 1.148)
(13) Tunneltiger (8-1-1; 1.005)
(14) Magic Dancemat (8-1-1; 0.736)
-------->8---------clip and save---------8<--------

[1] (it me, not goosing the numbers)

Obviously, you can tell that conferences figure SOMEHOW in the formula. I will leave it to you to figure how.

But that's my order-of-finish marker laid down. We're going to figure out how I did here in a little while, and whether this experiment is something worth pursuing.

to be fair to 6-1-1, Gull did put a non-GK as GK that day ;-) which other division would make it that interesting? :D

it's a fair punt you can hit top 3 in FL3 :D , good luck to all of you

Look, I am here for INTERESTING leagues, and for pure entertainment value, nobody's got it over on 6-1-1. Just because we're interesting doesn't make us good, though.

And I have my typical slow start in FL3; Sporting Messi put three past me. Injuries and illness make it rough sledding right now.
