Computer Upgrades
« on: June 29, 2014, 10:03:27 AM »
My computer is on the way out it would seem (plus it's getting a bit old now and motherboard doesn't support the new larger hard drives so I've got 3 2Gig drives in it instead.

Could have done without the expense, but just ordered new motherboard, cpu , 750 watt modular power supply, better cpu cooler, case and a 256 gig solid state hard drive for £399.00.

Already have plenty of memory and spare hard drives to install.

CPU :

Could have gone for the 9370 or 9390 but don't really need the extra speed as I don't use the PC for gaming and the extra £26 or £98 respectively is better in my pocket.

(not really wanting to pay the extra premium for Intel processors at the moment, been happy with AMD for some time).

Pretty good price. Combine that with the CPU, boot up times and application start ups should be reduced dramatically.

Case:

Not bad for a mid price range case, hot swap hard drive features are really useful too (Novatech's own brand stuff has come on in leaps and bounds).

Could have used one of my old cases, particularly the Antec one, but they aren't tooless fitting and I can't be arsed fiddling about. Might have to actually bin a couple of my old computers now.

Always keep them as spares, which means they sit there and don't get switched on. Two now have dead CMOS batteries (and neither have sata connectors on the boards either!). Will scavenge anything that might be useful out of them.

It will still leave me with two quad core machines as backups.

My only PC is a dual core...  :-[
Pretend I have a cool signature thing here.
I did, but the host site died and I can't be arsed to find an alternative right now...

Probably does what you need though.

I only tend to upgrade when I need to, but go for relatively new stuff so it will last for a few years before needing to upgrade the lot again, just minor tweeks here and there, like the addition of things such as a blu-ray writer.

Scavenging one of my old machines, took out two 200 gig drives and a 75 gig drive. How the hell did I survive with less than 500 gig of storage space lol.

Thos drives now added to my collection of hotswap sata drives.
