Manager Interview
« on: December 15, 2017, 11:43:58 AM »
Months ago, some of you may remember I used to post manager interviews on a weekly basis, which became less frequent as I got more busy with things outside of Sunday League.

However, for those of you who haven't done an interview, or would like to just do it again, here are the questions below.

Feel free to write up your own interviews and post them here. I always found these interesting. I'll be doing mine later on this evening or in a few days, depending on how long the case of Man Flu i have decides to stick around.

Q. How long have you been playing Sunday League?
Q. What got you in to Sunday League to begin with?
Q. Were you on any other servers before the merge on to one server?
Q. What are some of your biggest achievements on Sunday League?
Q. What are some of your biggest losses on Sunday League?
Q. Who is your biggest rival on Sunday League at the moment?
Q. Why did you choose the team name you have?
Q. What goals do you have for the future on Sunday League?
Q. Which Conference would you say is the toughest right now on Sunday League?
Q. Which Football team do you support and why?
Q. What is your favourite Football memory?
Q. Lastly, If you could change one thing on Sunday League, what would it be?

Q. How long have you been playing Sunday League?

A. Started in 2001 on the GamerTV server, left in 2006. Then joined and left back a forth a million times over the years.

Q. What got you in to Sunday League to begin with?

A. A friend I used to go to school with.

Q. Were you on any other servers before the merge on to one server?

A. I've been pretty much everywhere at some point. But, I was mainly on Daily Record, ITV, Tiscali, Smokey and Man U's server.

Q. What are some of your biggest achievements on Sunday League?

A. I won the very first World Cup on the Daily Record server, as I was there from the start of it. I won the managers table on Tiscali, and to be honest, that was the only reason I joined Tiscali, to get myself one of them goody bags haha. I also won the Super Cup and World Cup on Man U, which is great from a Leeds fans perspective  ;).

However, this year I won the Beer Cup with a bunch of season 1's, which I don't think anyone will match for a long time, so that's a nice bit of history to have on the game.

Q. What are some of your biggest losses on Sunday League?

A. All loses are ones you can learn from, unless your team is too weak. However I've had two loses that hurt a lot.

The first is back in the day when prizes were given away on this game, back in like 2002. I was in the Elite Cup final, the prize for the winner was £150 worth of vouchers to spend on a website Sunday League was a partner with.

Anyway, the day of the final was on a Sunday, and that weekend I was away on a family vacation, and I wouldn't get back to the Monday Evening, after leaving on the Friday, as this was 2002 it's not like I could check my phone when being out and about. I set up for the game a couple of days in advance, and couldn't log in to keep my teams morale up or check if I had any AWOL's to sort out. I can't remember what the team line up was, but I lost 2-1. I feel like I would off won if I could have logged in.

The other was the World Cup Semi-Final on the Daily Record server, the draws would happen so CPU teams always got to the final as it was a small server, and it probably meant Sunday League paid out less credits which was smart. Anyway, the person I was playing had won 1 World Cup, to my 1 World Cup as well, we we're playing for who would be the first manager to win 2 on the server. I had a good record against this guy, and I was 100% sure in my head the night before, which tactics I was going to play, I probably re-searched him for like 30 minutes, and I eventually found a pattern in his tactics that I could use against him.

I couldn't put the tactics on the night before, as this was 2004 and these were the days in Sunday League, where you couldn't set up in advance, and I had a league game. I always set up first thing in the morning anyway before I went to go to school, as I tried to do that for this game, my computer wouldn't start. It wouldn't get past the windows screen, when trying to get it to load. I tried 4 or 5 times and I was screwing because I knew these tactics would get me the win. Needless to say, I wasn't happy, I went on to lose the game 5-1 because I didn't set up, and when I got home from school at 3:30pm that day, my computer started no problem, like nothing had happened first thing in the morning and then the guy went on to win a 2nd World Cup against a CPU team...stupid technology  ::)

Oh, and looking at the match report, the tactics I had planned, I believe would have got me the win  :o

Q. Who is your biggest rival on Sunday League at the moment?

A. I've not really got rivals, but I do have a bogey team in Winter Milan. I've never took any points from him in 2-1-1, but I'm hoping that will change as my team develops  :).

Q. Why did you choose the team name you have?

A. I'll only mention the first two, South Shields is my hometown, and Believeable Tekkers, is the team name of the 6-a-side team I used to play for that won the league  8)

Q. What goals do you have for the future on Sunday League?

A. I want a team that has won everything, but I'm sure everyone has noticed on here I have quite a few teams, because I also want to be the first manager that has won every x-1-1 on the game since the merge.

Q. Which Conference would you say is the toughest right now on Sunday League?

A. Right now, I'd say conference 4, a few seasons ago I would have said conference 2, but we've lost Marv.

Q. Which Football team do you support and why?

A. Leeds United, which is highly influenced by my dad. South Shields too, as they are my hometown.

Q. What is your favourite Football memory?

A. That happened this year. South Shields got to Wembley in the F.A. Vase Final against Cleethorpes and won 4-0  ;D. I've never been to a final and watched my team win. I'd expect a lot more success from South Shields in the future though, they have a owner who owns a buisness with a £90M a year turn over, so financially they are in a great position, and his goal is to get South Shields to the national league. We're like 4 leagues below the conference, but I'd hope South Shields can get into the national league within the next 10 years. I think they are currently top by 2 points with like 4 games in hand.  :)

Q. Lastly, If you could change one thing on Sunday League, what would it be?

A. Fix the register page. You have to use the "Tab" button to agree to the T&C's right now to sign up, instead of clicking on it. For those that aren't PC literate, it could prevent New Managers from joining the game, and old ones returning.

Q. How long have you been playing Sunday League?
A couple of years when I was back in 04-06 I think. attempted a few times to come back but with work commitments etc I only recently started up again properly since the Summer this year.

Q. What got you in to Sunday League to begin with?
Me and a couple of close friends uk_jame as he was known on the Man Utd Server (Doesn't play anymore) and The Borg  8) (No need to introduce him) one of my closest friends still to this day and we was in secondary school and stumbled across it whilst googling "Football Games Online" in ICT when we should have been working.

Q. Were you on any other servers before the merge on to one server?
Being an Arsenal Fan I was on that server for the majority of the time and did move to Man Utd server after a while where I inherited a really good team Limehouse Warriors (pparch) if any of you remember them?
I did also come back briefly after the merge and I did give my team away (Possibly to Ag) ?? I see my username (booksie) which is FC Sidrat is still going so AG has it now either way.

Q. What are some of your biggest achievements on Sunday League?
I won my fair share on the others servers back in the day but as I am still getting my 2 teams stronger on here I haven't won anything significant yet. (Watch this space)
I would say keeping up the top end of 3-1-1 and 4-1-1 with my two teams is an achievement in itself currently.

Q. What are some of your biggest losses on Sunday League?
The only one to note is getting to my first Gold Wino Cup final and losing. That was a shame. Also any results where you feel aggrieved when you know in your head you should of won / lost that in 90 mins and not by a stupid random goal!

Q. Who is your biggest rival on Sunday League at the moment?
DVG, Delboy & The Borg,

Q. Why did you choose the team name you have?
I worked as a Camp Counsellor at a Summer Camp in America for 3 summers 2009-2011 near Baltimore in Maryland and when travelling after we finished summer we spent a week at Ocean City Resort (Kind of like a Jersey Shore feeling about it) I also saw the Baltimore Orioles play a Baseball game whilst on my travels there. So I just made the name up out of that!

Q. What goals do you have for the future on Sunday League?
Win 4-1-1 and whilst doing so Run DVG and MMF out of business  8) and it would be nice to claim the 3-1-1 title with my reserves. Add some more Cups to my empty cabinet.

Q. Which Conference would you say is the toughest right now on Sunday League?
Conference 4 & 2

Q. Which Football team do you support and why?
Arsenal - My Uncle along with his friends and brother run a local Arsenal Supporters Club where we go to every home and away games for the Gunners come rain or shine.
He took me to my first home game Arsenal v Wimbledon in '99' we won 5-1! and my first away game beating West Ham 2-1 at Upton Park in 2002 with goals from Pires and Bergkamp.

Q. What is your favourite Football memory?
I have a lot of football memories I could look back on with the many game I have been to good and bad (4-4's away at Newcastle and at Home to Spurs)
The one I have picked is the Reading 5-7 Arsenal game in the League Cup. Oct 2012
I was working for an UK outdoor activity centre for 3 years and was still going to the games regularly, my Uncle said for that game I could have as many tickets as I requested for £20 each all sat together - I brought 10 off him and found 9 others to go with. The funny thing was the other 9 who came with me were not all Arsenal fans. (Suppose they wanted to see quality football) We have 3 Arsenal Fans including me, 1 x Sheff Utd, 2 x Chelsea, 1 x Salisbury Town, 1 x Liverpool, 1 x Grimsby and one lad who had never been to a football match. There was a delay to get from the station to the ground and after hurrying through the turnstiles and up the stairs we made it just at the exact moment Jason Roberts made it 1-0 to reading then I thought here we go! Any fast forward we went 4-0 down in 37 mins and Walcott got one back before HT (1-4) Randomly one thing I remember was the stewards at HT letting clearly mortified Arsenal fans go outside the away end for a cigarette and come back in. I'm sitting there and all my friends were telling me how great it was to see Arsenal get stuffed and thanks for bringing us!
As you know this game was topsy turvy the whole way and turned out to be one of the greatest cup comebacks. Girouds header on 65mins gave us hope but with it being 4-2 into the 89th min it still looked bleak, suddenly we got a corner and Laurent Koscielny was unmarked in the centre to make it 4-3 as the clock hit 90mins. Squeeky Bum time the Arsenal fans roared one last time, 4 added minutes.
The ball breaks from a Reading attack and down the wing and the cross finds itself to Walcott somehow who scuff his shot and it hits Nicky Shoreys hand and goes over the line before Jenkinson makes sure. Pandemonium 4-4!
Extra Time - I new this was our game now, the funny thing was Giroud and Coquelin had to get their shirts back from the crowd because at 4-4 they thought they had earnt a replay... GET ON WITH IT BOYS!!
Chamakh makes it 5-4 in Extra time and Reading hit back with a Pogrebnyak header with 115 mins on the clock and were heading for pens!
Clock now at 120mins with like 2 added on and Arshavin breaks down the wing and a cross and a massive scramble and the ball lands at Walcotts feet 3 yards out to smash it into an empty net!!! BEDLAM IN THE AWAY END 6-5 THE ARSENAL - I also caught the full last goal on film so maybe I can upload it one day if anyone wants to see it if indeed I am aloud.
Anyway i'm going on now but Chamakh scores a 7th we win 7-5 somehow and they all thanked me after the game for an experience they will never forget and probably not see another game like it.... I agree.

Q. Lastly, If you could change one thing on Sunday League, what would it be?
Keep the update simple to what us managers would like, do not over complicate this game, we love it for it's simplicity.

Regards

Mr C  ;D

Very interesting Mr C.

I don't plan on going out of business, though .   8)

That Reading game must have been fun to be at.  I was in the away at at Milton Keynes a few seasons back when United visited.  Each time that MK scored their first 3 goals I shrugged an told myself that we would still score more.  When the 4th went in i realised that we wouldn't.  So, a similar experience to your own for 88 minutes..just a different ending.
