If only you weren't lower class!!

Working class and proud of it mate, despite not being well enough to be able to work at the current time.

The difference is in the names of meals a bloke eats during the day. A working class man such as my good self doesn't do lunch - breakfast, dinner and tea. A middle class person has breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Only middle class and upper class in this country because of the cost of playing it and getting decent coaching. That is not the case in most other countries where they have decent coaching schemes and sports sholarships.

LOL.. you have to at least be working to be working class.. because you've been unemployed for such a long time and depend on welfare benefits.. under a classification.. you're actually lower class.... not that class bothers me in the slightest... your the one who brought it up.. anyone can enjoy WATCHING Wimbledon IMO.. and I wasnt talking about playing tennis as a sport anyway... just enjoying watching it  ::)

So I take it no-one else is watching it then.. Im not a big fan of tennis personally but have enjoyed watching some of the matches so far.. keeps me occupied whilst there is no footy or ice hockey to entertain me.

I love tennis. Don't mind playing it, but prefer badminton. Has been a good Wimbledon with the usual shocks. Azarenka v Serena Williams today is going to be a cracking match. Well worth a watch.

Murray at his best should have enough to make it to the final, but anything less and Tsonga might be too much for him. Tsonga's so powerful and extremely fun to watch because of his unpredictability. Djokovic is my favourite to win but I'd love to see Federer take his 7th title and match Pete Sampras on that count.

BTW Harv - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NRS_social_grade - you're below working class for the time being.  ;)

I find it hard to enjoy a sport if I don't have someone to cheer on, and I'm patriotic so it'd have to be someone English.

So that's tennis ruled out, then.

(I'm surprised at the number of people who support Murray, as the British hope, as he's always made it abundantly clear he hates the English.)

It certainly isn't dependant on the skill level of people or their employment status. You can be long term unemployed but still remain middle class. The fact that I've been too ill to work for quite a while doesn't stop me from being working class at all.

Cricket and Rugby are also middle class sports imo.

Personally couldn't care less if Murray wins the thing or not. To say I'm not a big fan of sweaty socks would be a major understatement lol.

Absolutely spot on. Hope he does his usual and fails miserably.

And football isn't ??  Certainly football started as a working class sport... as soon as the Premiership started though its become increasingly middle class and now moving into upper class... as a self proclaimed "working class", football mad male.. how many united games did you actually make last season.. or was it too expensive to make any??  Lets face it, if it wasnt for tv - you wouldnt see united play at all.. non league football could be identified as working class.. you probably dont see any of that either.. you support the biggest upper class team there is in the premiership.. and then refuse to watch other sports simply because they dont relate to your social class!!

The main problem with seeing United is getting hold of a ticket, and tickets to see United are very reasonably priced. And the crowds interviewed before matches are overwhelmingly working class people. ;)

Come on Federer. You better not let England down in the final lol.

(I used to be happy for Scotland to do well in world cups etc, but got so fed up with so many Jocks being anti-English with things like their "anyone but England" that it's no longer the case).

Murray looked OK in the first set.. but then Fed took over.. he beasted him.. Murray just looked tired after that 2nd set.

Typical British player, no stomach for a fight when it was needed. Once Federer started to get on top you could see the determination drain from Murray, lack of self-belief and mental strength.

First time I entered the ballot for Wimbledon at the end of last year.. received a letter yesterday saying I was successful and that I have two tickets for centre court on 24th June this year (2nd day) if I want them.  My mum is a massive Wimbledon fan and her birthday is a few days afterwards - I told her last night and she was ecstatic as she has failed in her ticket applications for like the past 10 years or something stupid like that lol ... well chuffed with that..

I knew you can get tickets a day before the game if you are quick off the mark.. but not having to give short notice to work and being able to plan in advance is great.

So went to Wimbo yesterday.. was good.. weird to watch a sporting event in silence though lol..

Got there early and watched a set of the match between number 10 seed Kei Nishikori and Kenny De Schepper... it was such a mismatch.. De Schepper is 6ft 6 and Nishikori 5ft 8 .. lol.. I tell you what, De Schepper can fucking smash his serves though.. he was averaging around 135mph on his first serves and Nishikori was struggling to return any of them... but then a lot of them weren't accurate enough... as it was, Nishikori won in 3 straight sets.

But we went to centre court after the first set...

Saw Lisicki win in 2 straight sets.. she looked bloody good actually.. plus she's quite hot  :o.. I'd tip her for another final appearance.
Saw Nadal beat Klizman - although Nadal lost the opening set.. thought we were in for a decent game.. but he pretty much dominated after that..
And saw Serena easily outclass her opponent in 2 straight sets.

They had another game on after Serena.. but I was bloody knackered.. the seats at Wimbo are so uncomfortable after sitting in them for an extended period... plus I knew it would be much busier trying to get out of London later on.

Would go back.. good experience.. bloody pricy though.. and full of toffs.

Stuck a fiver on Federer to win this years men's singles... Nadal just looks so shit on grass.. got let off again yesterday I see.. Federer is as cool as they come.

Also stuck a fiver on Lisicki.. bit of an outside bet at 16/1 - Serena looks quality this year - will be tough to beat.

Nadal's not looking too impressive again today.

Yep, Nadal got lucky against Rosol... he's lost the first set in each of his 3 games so far.. its only a matter of time and he'll get dumped out... he plays so boring aswell.. takes about 25 seconds just to serve for each point.

Just watched Lisicki get through to R4 after beating the 11th seed.. 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.. she just seems to completely up her game on grass - so I'm happy with my bet even if she doesn't win it... Serena has already been knocked out so there's a good chance for anyone this year.

Lisicki through to the QF.. just... she made so many errors today.. she'll be playing Halep in the next round, should be an awesome match, Halep is 3rd seed.

Federer is absolutely destroying Robredo at the moment, so he should be through too  ;D

Told you it was only a matter of time before Nadal went out.. losing to an ozzie teenager.. great match though.. path is clear for Feds to reach the final.. just has to beat Wawrinka and he should make it
Title: Re: Wimbledon
Post by: jman on July 02, 2014, 01:09:02 PM
Lisicki just screwed that up.. 4-1 up in the first set and looking really good.. then proceeded to lose the next 11 games to lose 6-4, 6-0  ;D ;D  Terrible serviing and too many mistakes cost her.. but Halep was great when she got going... Feds on centre court later against Wawrinka.. should be a great match.

Yeah he played shit.. deserved to lose I reckon.

Federer looking good for the semi-final.. 2-1 sets up and winning 4-2 in the 4th set  ;D

Gutted as I was planning on putting bets on Lisicki and Bouchard before the tournament to win outright but completely forgot. Now it looks as if Bouchard will win it, she's playing some great tennis.

Omg, Feds has just bought the match to a 5th set after being on the brink of defeat a few times... Epic game!  ;D

Stan James got a bet £10, get £10 free offer on at the moment... was going to do £10 on both mens/womens tournaments.. so that'll do me.

Going for Feds again this year.. Murray is overrated and Djokovic odds are complete pony...

Not going for Lisicki though.. she makes too many mistakes.. I don't get my free bet credited until Monday, but I'm thinking I'll go with Halep - 20/1 for the world number 3.. can't be a bad bet.

No massive upsets on the first day.. watched Broady go 2 sets down.. and turned it off at lunch.. got home and heard he brought it back to win 3-2.. lol.

No such luck for his sister though..

Halep and Feds on court today.. along with old Murray Mints

Well Feds just sailed through, he's so cool on the court.. looks so effortless..

But Halep.. oh dear.. what a pile of pony she was.. World Number 3 out in the first round, to Cepelova (160th seed I think).  Halep just made so many mistakes.. what a dud bet that was!!  And to think I was looking at Bouchard this year too.. who also went out lol.

Goffin knocked Broady out yesterday.. different class to be honest.. after the first set Goffin just played him off the court.

Looking forward to Raonic vs Kyrgios tomorrow.. repeat of last years QF when Raonic won... he's got such a massive serve.. he clocked one at 145mph yesterday (3rd fastest in Wimbledon history)!!  But I like Kyrgios, he's a bit of a character.

Federer on court today against Querrey.. Murray and Nadal also in action.. should be a good day for it.. but imagine we'll get some rain at some point today

I don't consider myself a tennis fan, but I always watch quite a lot of Wimbledon and always enjoy it, so being of e work for the tournament is fine by me :D
Thoroughly enjoying Brown v Nadal at the moment. Hadn't heard of this guy before (ranked 102 apparently) but he's got great strength and stamina, and kills a ball with a drop shot better than most. Is in a strong position to put out one of the top seeds, here.

Didn't have much chance to watch much today, but not surprised Nadal has gone out early, he's shit on grass.  Dustin Brown was quality!

Fed's "hotdog" shot was pure class, and he's through.

Quite a few tasty games tomorrow - Serena vs heather,  raonic vs kyrgios and cilic vs isner  ;D

Watching Kyrgios v Raonic over lunch.. this game is great..

Have a feeling Raonic will win this, his service has been ace (pun intended) so far.. Kyrgios is great to watch though.. he did a little windmill during one of the rallies, cracked me up  ;D

Edit : Well Raonic has gone to shit.. and Kyrgios' serving has really improved.. 31 aces so far (just into 4th set).  Krygios still entertaining and pulling off ridiculous trick shots just for the hell of it lol.  Raonic looked rattled at the end of the second set and hasn't looked the same since.
