And no, I won't respect the trophies that the likes of City, Chelsea and Newcastle have won or will win, because previous to those clubs being bought they were NOTHING clubs. They were either mid-table or relegation fodder clubs.
United have won several trophies since Fergie retired and will continue to do so no matter who owns the club.
Wow....Manchester United ignorance right there! Football wasn't invented until 1992
They weren't any great shakes before 92 either. 😉
Newcastle have won 3 top division titles in the 1900s, Chelsea had only won one top league title before Abramovic bought them, and that was in 1955. As for the Berties, they've ALWAYS been in United's shadow. They won their first top league title in 1937, then another in 68. After being bought out by an Arab state they won their third top league title in 2012.
This isn't Man United arrogance at all. NONE of those clubs were 'big clubs' until they were bought out by mega rich owners. United is one of the three biggest clubs in world football BEFORE they're being bought by mega rich owners. And if the club was being run by responsible owners we'd have won a Premier League title or two after Fergie retired.
Manchester United were not any great shakes before 1992 either Harv. I'm old enough to remember a team of your superstars relegated in 1974! Your lot got lucky winning the first PL when Sky Sports threw TV money around. That money gave your lot a head start over every other club in England to invest in transfers. Fergie wasn't a genius tactically, he just spent a shit load and spent wisely until other clubs could catch up financially. If he was such a great manager, why couldn't he dominate in Europe also?
Would you say other clubs like Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town, Arsenal, Liverpool etc, etc, etc, would not deserve future glory if they sold out the way you want your club to also? You look at history through rose tinted glasses and think you deserve success now because you forget how lucky that success was earned in the past with a lack of competition.
United were still winning trophies in the 70s and 80s, when we were shite and the red scouse gits were dominating football.
As for Fergie and Europe, his hands were tied thanks to the five foreigners rule in the 90s that stopped two of his best sides (the 94 and 96 Double winning sides) from playing full strength in Europe. Those two sides were BETTER than the 99 Treble winning side.
Fergie has to go down as the best football manager of all time because he not only had Aberdeen winning the Sweaty Sock top division, but also won the European Cup Winner's Cup, beating Real Madrid in the Final and also knocking out Barcelona, I think, on the way there.
United didn't spend that much more than they did previous to winning the Premier League because, again, thanks to our ridiculously HUGE fanbase, we've ALWAYS had plenty of money to spend. Big Ron in particular spent a fortune on transfers, we didn't just start spending after we won the first Premier League title.
Now it COULD be said that we were lucky with the Class of 92, but I'd say that 'luck' was all down to a great scouting network set up by Fergie's brother, sometimes you truly do MAKE your own luck.
And those other clubs you've mentioned will all 'sell out' at some point. This is the way that English football has gone since Abramovic first bought Chelsea years ago. In another 20 years or so, all Premier League clubs will have mega rich owners.
