Player Positions
« on: March 17, 2022, 05:03:24 PM »
If someone could please clear up for me…

Attacking Mid centre who can play any side covers?

Attacking defender centre who can play any side covers?

Is there only CDM, or is there a player that covers CDM by buying a player that covers any side?

Thank you for any help, feel free to add anything I may have missed. BALDBEAN FC

All attacking midfielders.

All attacking defenders.

Only CDM unfortunately. A strong AMC or MC could probably play there okay but with a small match engine penalty. There are strong formations out there that only need the attacking players though, such as 4-5-1 attacking and 5-2-3 attacking.

The more position variants the harder it is to balance a team. I always thought if Cat Games increased the squad size by even just 1 or 2, then we would potentially see more variation formation wise.

I find the team formation to use is to have the subs bench capable of covering all substitute eventualities. For example if you have three different midfielders and you want them all having a sub on the bench then you have to choose between leaving out a defender, a striker or the sub goalie. But nobody would do this, so one of the sub midfielders has to be left off the bench leaving the Team vulnerable to playing a midfielder out of position. ;) 8)

There are strong formations out there that only need the attacking players though, such as 4-5-1 attacking and 5-2-3 attacking.

5-2-3 attacking was my formation of choice and it was quite hard to beat. I just felt it lack a slight edge when competing with non-attacking formations over the course of the season. Do recall Fools United winning a major with it, although it doesn't appear too often in completion winning sides.

Instant subbing removes chance of players out of position,  but Ag still makes a good point about having your bases covered. If possible I'd like to have an anyside DEF, MID & STC on the bench, all changed off early so they have full gelling.

Apart from your GK, any injury in the game will be covered and gelling unaffected for your next match, should there not be more than one injury to the same position. In certain scenarios this wouldnt be possible in an attacking formation.
