I'd say last night finished my chances so now a 3 way battle. Not that I'm unhappy - with 7 newbies and 3 second season players I reckon this season has gone well for me and bodes well for next season :)

Unless of course there are some really odd results between now and the finish --- and this is Sunday League  ;)

Good to see you back in the forum Icky, even though you messed up right from the start.  ;D

I still think you can take the title Dave. I still have to play Colour City and Waterloo Merlion, it is the best season in a long time though. I think it could all be decided in the last game.

I have one top player nearing the end and if I see what I want to replace him I'll go for it rather than wait 'til he falls off his perch. If that happens I reckon I'd definitely be done for this season. As for the top three, I reckon it's most likely one will take points of the other two.  But then what do I know. And on that basis I won't give up just yet ;)

Just play passing all the time? I've got a strong suspicion the only things that really matter now are the team stats (with stamina vital in that) and getting players in the correct positions. Everything else, IMO, probably adds up to less than 5%.

Though I'm sure someone will disagree  :D

I completely agree with that. With an exception though, which are Rain and Snow where you can easily see by the difficulty of scoring that Longball with an appropriate formation will receive a significant boost in some aspects!

However, I think a lot of us suffer from the Placebo effect. :-[ We have been told for ages what styles to play for what every condition but I've gotten the same results with other styles just as consisdently.

See now I would disagree with that because I think it's more about the combination of pitch and weather rather than just one or the other!

In rainy/soft I would consider wings as not far off longball
But in rainy/muddy I think longball is considerably better

Same with snowy conditions, I would consider wings on frozen pitch but not on muddy

Maybe passing would be an option on a muddy pitch after all we play it when it's windy but its not something I've tested properly
Steel City Blades - I will win everything even if it takes me forever to do it!
Flashing Blade - "Got any leeches for this?"

I also think tactics count a lot less than stats, a good example is my game against Blue Toon Stunners. I should have lost that game but because of my stats I got away with it. If it wouldn't have been a longball game I would have probably won it. This game would be a lot more competitive if tactics were more important, but we'll never know. Change in SL is very unlikely!  :-\

It is now.

As an example, I can remember when 3-5-2 was the unbeatable formation (and defenders could be played as the deep midfielders).

You're probably right though. I doubt if they care enough to bother changing things anymore
