CONFERENCE 3 CUP - SEASON 12

The conference three cup kicks off today with the first round. Eight teams start off the journey but only one can be crowned champions. Best of luck to everyone.

Round one

Rathpeacon   vs    Blue Star Knights   
Rathpeacon have won the cup for the passed two seasons and start their campaign fr a third straight title against Blue Star Knights. Blue Star have been improving dramatically in recent sessions and are currently sitting fourth in 3-1-1. Rathpeacon have some injuries and suspensions for this one, Blue Star should win this one.


Wizards   vs    A.C.Upstreet   
Wizards won the cup in season 8 and won 3-1-1 two seasons ago but their form has dipped of late. They currently lie in mid table in 3-1-1. AC Upstreet have had limited success in the cup and currently lie tenth in 3-1-1. This one could either way but home advantage might be enough for Wizards to sneak through.

Hoarse Whisperers   vs    Teamo supremo
Hoarse Whisperers are 3-1-1 kingpins but for all their dominance of the conference, they have never won the cup. They currently sit third in 3-1-1 after a slow start and are top of FL1 with a 100% record. Teamo Supremo are currently leading 3-1-3. Today's opposition will be a big step up in standard, can Team Surpremo spring a big shock?

Saiyan Warriors   vs    Purple Gelato
Saiywan Warriors host the current 3-1-1 leaders Purple Gelato in what could be an intriguing tie. Purple Gelato have won the cup twice under the Green Bay franchise. Saiyan have yet to reach a cup final. Current league form suggests that they will have their work cut out to beat a well drilled Gelato side.

normally i’d be confident, but not today. got tonked in the div match, some players low on gelling and AWOLS so i’ll take any result now (and hope i don’t slip away in the league)

CONFERENCE 3 CUP ROUND ONE


Rathpeacon   0 - 6    Blue Star Knights   
Ouch. Terrible mistake by the Rathpeacon manager to play an awol player  but there should be no taking away from Blue Star Knight's outstanding display. Leading 2-0 at half time, four second half goals helped to send the defending champions out. 

Wizards   3 - 0    A.C.Upstreet   
Kenny Dewitt was the difference between these two sides. Kenny put Wizards ahead after 9 minutes and doubled their advantage on the storke of half time. He completed his hat trick mid way through the second half to send Wizards into the next round.

Hoarse Whisperers   4 - 1    Teamo supremo   
Four goals for Hoarse's Serio Aguero but Team Supremo from 3-1-3 gave Hoarse Whisperers a real scare in this one. Hoarse took the lead after 24 minutes but Team Supremo levelled after 36 minutes. Hoarse took the lead on the stroke of half time and two second half goals gave them a solid cushion to see them into round two.


Saiyan Warriors   0 - 3    Purple Gelato
This game was much closer than the scoreline suggests. Gelato took an early lead but there was little between the sides until Gelato added a second mid way through the second half. Warriors pressed hard to try and find a way back in but were hit on the counter attack to an 81st minute strike that helped ease Gelato into the next round.

Four top teams make the semi finals, 3 of the current top 4 in 3-1-1 plus Wizards, 3-1-1 champions from two season ago.

Conference 3 cup semi finals

Four top teams have made it through to the cup semi finals. The games take place on Monday but I'll do the preview a little early.


Blue Star Knights   vs    Hoarse Whisperers
Blue Star Knights had a big 6-0 win over Rathpeacon in round one and should be in confident mood for this one. However, their recent league form has been patchy. Hoarse are 3-1-1 kingpins but have never won the cup. After a slow start to the season, they went on a long winning run to move back into contention for another title. A defeat and a draw though has halted their momentum. A cup semi final win would be a welcome boost.
   

Wizards   vs    Purple Gelato
Wizards won 3-1-1 two seasons ago but they are struggling in mid table this time round. A solid 3-0 win over AC Upstreet in round one was a very welcome boost. Gelato are two times cup champions and have been in devastating form in 3-1-1 this season. They are sitting top with 80 goals scored and a miserly 4 conceded. Gelato will start this one as favourites.

Conference 3 cup semi finals



Blue Star Knights   1-0    Hoarse Whisperers
4th played 5th from 3-1-1 so we should have expected this to be close. Blue Star had 55% possession and 17 shots to Hoarse's 10. Blue Star opened the scoring on 30 minutes but were not able to add to their advantage. A nervous final 15 minutes left Blue Star hanging on but they did just that and have reached their first conference 3 cup final.


Wizards   3-1   Purple Gelato
Wizards are back in a conference 3 cup final for the first time since season 8 and who would bet against them landing a second title? That said, today's game was much closer than the scoreline suggests. Wizards took the lead after 16 minutes and held the advantage until half time. Gelato came out with all guns blazing after half time and levelled after 46 minutes. Wizards retook the lead after 60 minutes. Gelato through everything at Wizards to get the equaliser but conceded a late break away goal to go down 3-1.



The final will be between Wizards, season 8 champions, and Blue Star Knights, first time finalists.

CONFERENCE THREE CUP FINAL

It's cup final day in Conference three. Blue Star Knights play Wizards. Blue Star are appearing in their first conference 3 cup final and have been very impressive en route. They opened their campaign with a 6-0 hammering of defending cup champions Rathpeacon before beating 3-1-1 champions Hoarse Whisperers in the semi final. They currently sit 5th in 3-1-1.
Wizards won the cup in season eight and are appearing in their second final. They won 3-1-1 two seasons ago. En route to the final, they beat A.C.Upstreet 3-0 in round one before a solid 3-1 win over Purple Gelato in the semi final. Wizards' league form has been patchy of late and they sit 9th in 3-1-1.

This game could go all the way, on league form, you would have to fancy Blue Star but Wizards have won on the big day before, could that experience be enough to win a second cup?

CONFERENCE 3 CUP FINAL REPORT


CONGRATULATION TO WIZARDS

Blue Star Knights 0-1 Wizards
Cup finals are often tight and tense affairs and this one was no different. Tactics were the order of the day in the first half and despite changes from both managers, no one could find a breakthrough. Three minutes after the re-start, Kenny Dewitt cut in from the left to give Wizards a 1-0 lead. Blue Star threw the kitchen sink at Wizards after this but they couldn't find the equaliser and Wizards held onto win their second conference 3 cup.

WELL DONE TO WIZARDS AND THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO TOOK PART. SEE YOU ALL AGAIN NEXT SEASON
