Proposed Server Cup change
« on: March 03, 2020, 11:57:24 AM »
With the Server Cup struggling to fill 32 places (even though its free) i was thinking of re-branding the Server Cup to give it a bit more appeal naming it after the late great Terry Ricketts (creator for newer players)

Will still be a free to play gold cup tournament to happen once a season and ill try my best for write ups on the fourms from each round.

does it sound like a good idea to anyone?

It'll be nice to honour Terry for that I think its a good idea,

Having said that i don't think this or the write ups will affect the numbers entering the league as most of the people who enter are the users who are active on the forums.

Thats just my thoughts anyway

Don't think a name change will do anything. All be it a nice touch. It won't get anymore people entering. Also, you risk messing up peoples history pages(previous winners) as they already have a record under 'The Server Cup' on there.

What it needs is advertisement. When I had the ability to send out a 'server green message' I could get just about get 128 teams as everyone new it was open. Unfortunately I can no longer do this. No point asking Junior as the chap don't reply. Not everyone reads the chat. People just need to know its open.........

I didn’t even realise that you couldn’t do that anymore, why not? Another bug within that game won’t let you? Have you spoken to junior at all about it?

The intentions are good but I agree with Ilhan & Borg. Fighting a losing battle with drumming up interest, bet half the people don't even read their PMs. Probably go as far as saying a high % of users simply log in, set tactics and log off all within a minute.

Ok that’s cool, was just a thought as was finding the game more and more tedious and boring at the moment, suppose it was something to just try and keep myself interested

It was when the game had some sort of problem. And it turnt to 'sundayleague2'. I did mention to Junior initially but got no response. Ever since then hasn't worked.

To be totally honest with you, although a long standing manager. Been there done that this game needs putting to bed. Can't speak for SL2 as I don't play it( I'd imagine that had a handful of managers if that) but SL1 now is as dead as. It is stagnated to such a level that it's going backwards. You have a few diehards with their rose tinted glasses on but the reality is the game is a total snorefest. I was hyped about playing again. I started like a rocket then the boredom set in and I've missed logging in some nights. Admittedly I have so many new players that it feels like I'm playing as a newbie so I can see why the new managers don't stick about. 0 guidance on the game to help them. The help is so outdated that it is no help. Feedback don't work. The transfer market is confusing. Why have a basic stats? Just have attributes. Forum you can read but if you wanna sign up it is impossible for an admin to find their sign up as this forum gets 100+ requests a day from bots. Thinking about new things that could be implemented there should be a competition designed to your experience level(team details) So say you've just signed up. They should be entered into a comp where they can only play people who have been about from experience level 1 to 3. After 3 seasons then they move into comp level 4-6. The after gaining knowledge of the game (with abit of help) say experience level 20+ then your in with the big boys or something along those lines.

So much potential but I understand why Kush stopped. Don't blame the guy at all. Any other thoughts?

Borg, I agree with the '' so much potential '' but unfortunately Junior doesn't see it this way.

SL is going nowhere unless the following happens;

1) Junior starts making a loss which is not happening anytime soon given the game is continuing. Minimum costs to host and I estimate Junior to make atleast £100 monthly on users buying credits thus ending up with a profit overall. If SL is making a loss, I don't see Junior leaving it available. If he is not willing to put any more of his own money in to the game, why would he continue making a loss?

2) Game failure where this is a big malfunction and doesn't take a few minutes to fix. If this was to happen, I doubt Junior would use his time to fix a long hard issue unless he gets someone else to do this but I don't see that happening. The game is so outdated along with the script and for this, a malfunction could happen anytime.

This is just my opinion.

Let's all make a stance, there is only a handful of managers who still buy credits, so all the active users stop buying credits then something will change.

We would risk losing the game, but it could pay off and we could see something come out of this. the way this is going and from other managers comments, most people just come on here because its become a bit of a habit rather than actually enjoying the game, so people come on set up and go off. once you miss a few games here and there because you forgot to log in or was busy, then it just becomes pointless

At the end of the day, there are users out there who still enjoy playing this game and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future. Everyone has a different opinion regarding SL and even if most agree that this game needs improvement/shut down, others still find this game playable and are rather more relaxed then others about the current situation. It would not be fair on those people if you was to make some sort of ''stance''. If your not happy and enjoying the game no more, nobody is forcing you to continue or buy credits. I understand that some still might only be playing due to their history but that is the sacrifice you are choosing to do. If the game shuts down for good then your team history is pretty much worthless anyway. Perhaps go on holiday mode for a long duration or something if you want to keep your account but not play anymore if your worried about history. That is what I done and I returned with my account safe after a few years and that is what I will do again in the future. We all know the situation regarding SL and we all know nothing is going to be done about it. If the game goes down for whatever reason being a 'stance' or a 'malfunction', it will be down for good. As Borg said, the game is only going backwards but ultimately it is your decision if you want to play or not.

Going on Holiday mode also requires Credits for it to be active.

I haven't bought credits for a while and will not do so until there is some sort of movement on getting a service out of the game.

Like you said each to their own, but as long as a few people continue to pay to play the game, then we are never going to have anything happen. Like you said as long as the cost of running the server is obtained by the purchases there will be no reason to do anything to make a change here.

Obviously can't force anyone to make a stance or do anything everyone will do what they want according to how they feel, but personally i think this is the only way to actually get some sort movement on the future of this game and A lot of managers feel the same way but continue to pay which i don't understand..
